Earlier this year, it was rumored that Lamborghini->ke44 would unveil a special Aventador LP720-4 at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show as a celebration to its 50th anniversary. But the show only brought that strange-looking Veneno three-off supercar.

It looks like Lamborghini decided to keep this special edition for the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show - a date that gets closer to its May 7th anniversary. Lambo has named the new special edition the Aventador->ke3624 LP720-4 50° Anniversario and its name pretty much says it all. In Lamborghini speak, that name translates that it celebrates the company's 50th anniversary and its output has been increased by an extra 20 horsepower.

The model has received a special Giallo Maggio (May yellow) exterior paint - as a tribute to the most preferred color chosen by Lamborghini costumers since May 1963.

The new Aventador LP720-4 50° Anniversario will be limited to only 100 units.

Updated 04/23/2013: Lamborghini has dropped the first promo video for the new LP720-4 50° Anniversario special edition built to celebrate the company's 50th anniversary. Also released is Lamborghini CEO, Stephen Winkelmann, describing the Aventador LP720-4 50° Anniversario. Enjoy!

Exterior

The first obvious update offered for the 50° Anniversario edition is this special exterior paint called Giallo Maggio (May yellow). Developed as a tribute to the most appreciated color among Lamborghini customers, this particular yellow features an intense glitter effect and is structured in a layer of transparent and highly reflective particles that makes the supercar truly glisten, especially in the sun.

Along with this exclusive color, the new anniversary edition also received an improved aerodynamic kit. Up front, it gets enlarged air intakes and splitters, and on the rear, Lamborghini added an enlarged diffuser and expansive meshwork that further improves engine compartment ventilation. All the new elements and the side sills are offered in matte black.

According to the Italian company, in the new 50° Anniversario edition, the aerodynamic efficiency has been improved by 50 percent when compared to the standard Aventador.

Interior

On the inside, Lamborghini developed extremely fine, natural, semi-aniline leather that you can order in a combination of colors inspired by the Lamborghini’s home in the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna: Nero Ade (black) combined with either Terra Emilia or Giallo Quercus.

No matter the color you choose, Lamborghini is offering an exclusive Q-Citura stitch - a diamond pattern introduced especially for this special edition.

Drivetrain

Under the hood of the new 50° Anniversario special edition, Lamborghini has placed the same V-12 engine as in the standard Aventador, but with a new engine calibration. As a result, the output has been increased from the standard 700 ponies up to 720 horsepower.

As usual, the engine is mated to an extremely fast-shifting ISR transmission and will sprint the supercar from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds and up to a top speed of 217 mph – these are the same numbers as the standard model, so don’t expect a huge boost from the extra 20 horses.

2013 Ferrari F12berlinetta

Ferrari unveiled the F12berlinetta at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. It comes with a V-12 engine that delivers a total of 740 horsepower and 508 pound-feet of torque. The model sprints from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds and goes up to a top speed of 211 mph, making it slightly slower than the Aventador.

Conclusion

The new Aventador LP720-4 50° Anniversario is just another way of celebrating a great birthday for Lamborghini. The fact that it gets an exclusive color, an updated interior and most importantly, 20 extra horsepower under the hood will help it sell like hot cakes. Let’s just hope price won't be too increased when compared to the standard version.
