While the world was expecting to see the new-generation Gallardo, Lamborghini->ke44 decided to come up with a new special edition based on the current model. Called the Gallardo->ke375 LP 570-4 Squadra Corse, this new supercar is based on the Gallardo Super Trofeo racecar, and, according to the Italian maker, it "brings race track emotion directly to the road."

The new supercar was named after the recently founded department within Automobili Lamborghini, which manages all motorsport activities from GT3 to the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo championships in Europe, Asia and America.

When compared to a base Gallardo LP 560-4, the new Squadra Corse version is lighter, more powerful and delivers improved performance figures. As expected, carbon fiber played an important role in the developments of the new Gallardo supercar and many elements were taken from the race track and brought to the road.

Lambo will fully outline the new Squadra Corse at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show->ke235.

Updated 12/03/2013: The very first Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Squadra Corse has landed in the U.S. The last of the Gallardos was spotted at Cats Exotics, a premium exotic car dealer. We did check out their website to look for more details about the Squadra Corse Gallardo parked at their dealership, but this being a highly exclusive model of the Gallardo supercar we think someone must have placed an order for it through Cats Exotics, WA. You can see the two images we have of the model here and here.

Update History

Updated 08/08/2013: Lamborghini released prices for the recently announced Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse. Only 15 units will be offered on the U.S. market at a base price of $259,100 and we can only get it in the Giallo Midas exterior color. (Autoblog)

Exterior

Since the new Squadra Corse took its inspiration from a racecar, we expected to see some elements used in the Super Trofeo car. These elements include a huge rear wing that ensures optimal downforce, a removable hood with a quick-release system. Both of these elements are made from carbon fiber and they help ensure a curb weight of just 2,954 pounds - 154 pounds less than a standard Gallardo LP 560-4.

The new Gallardo Squadra Corse is further distinguished by a decal strip running along the flank that is painted green, white and red -- the colors of the Italian flag.

Customers can choose between four exterior colors in markets other than the U.S.: Giallo Midas (yellow), Bianco Monocerus (white), Grigio Thalasso (grey) and in Rosso Mars (red). The base coat is combined with a matte-black rear wing with contrasts in body color. In the U.S., however, Lambo will only offer the Giallo Midas exterior color.

Interior

For the interior, Lamborghini opted for a combination of carbon fiber and Alcantara. Carbon fiber sees use on the door panels, the racing seats and the center console cover, while Lambo used Alcantara for the dashboard, central panel of the seat cushion and the backrest.

Carbon-fiber insertions also appear on the handbrake frame, the middle of the center console, the lower rim of the steering wheel, the trim around the main and secondary instrument panels, the door handles, and the glove box handle.

Drivetrain

Under its hood, the new Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse retains the same V-10 engine used in the Gallardo Super Trofeo racecar. This engine delivers a total of 570 horsepower at 8,000 rpm -- 10 horsepower more than the base Gallardo -- and sprints the new supercar to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds, to 124 mph in just 10.4 seconds and up to a top speed of 198 mph.

Just like on the racecar, in the Squadra Corse the engine mates to a automated e-gear six-speed transmission operated by steering wheel paddles and sends the power to all four wheel's via Lamborghini new all-wheel drive system.

Suspension and Brakes

The new Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse will sit on a set of 19-inch forged wheels painted in high-gloss black. Lambo added in a set of brake calipers painted in red, black or yellow. The Squadra Corse comes standard with a carbon-ceramic brake system.

Prices

The new Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse will be priced at $259,100, not including the $2,100 gas guzzler tax and the destination taxes.

Competition

Ferrari 458 Italia

Ever since Lamborghini arrived on the market, its main intention was to offer high-performance alternatives to Ferrari models and the new Squadra Corse is no exception. It looks like the Gallardo is set to take on the 458 Italia without any fear.

Ferrari's model is powered by a 4.5-liter V-8 engine that delivers a total of 570 horsepower at 9,000 rpm and a peak torque of 398 pound-feet at 6,000 rpm. This power will sprint the 458 Italia from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds and up to a top speed of 201 mph.

The two Italian companies are not the only ones to offer great sports car and Audi proves this with its R8 V10 Plus.

The model is powered by a 5.2-liter engine V-10 engine that delivers a total of 550 horsepower and a peak torque of 398 pound-feet at 6,500 rpm. This might be a little less than its Italian counterparts, but the R8 Plus delivers nearly the same performance figures of 3.7 seconds to 60 mpg and a top speed of 198 mph.

Conclusion

The new Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse looks like the perfect way to say farewell to a very successful supercar. Not only is this special-edition Gallardo simply bad-ass, but it is also an excellent primer for its upcoming successor.
