The entry-level Lamborghini Huracán LP580-2 is barely a year old – it was introduced at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show – and yet, it’s already established its own corner as Lambo’s most affordable current model. The rear-wheel drive Lambo also holds the distinction of being touted as the “purest expression of a Lamborghini to date,” a description that hasn’t gone unnoticed in the aftermarket world. Novitec Torado, for instance, understands the potential of a tuned Huracán LP580-2 so it went ahead and developed a kit that brings that potential to reality. The result is a car that packs a whopping 830 horsepower, more than any other stock Lamborghini today, including the range-topping Aventador LP750-4 Superveloce.

It’s easy to get mesmerized by the massive power gains that Novitec Torado is offering. Trust me; I was transfixed too. But to simply focus all of our attention on that is doing the rest of the program a disservice. For instance, the kit also includes a aerodynamic body kit whose components are made entirely out of carbon fiber. There’s also a fresh set of wheels and upgrades to the suspension that help round out the Huracán LP580-2 into the pure driving machine that it is.

There’s no word yet from Novitec Torado on when this program will become available. When that time comes though, I expect plenty of Huracán LP580-2 owners to give this kit a serious look because of what it can do to their sports cars. I’d do the same thing too if I had a rear-wheel drive Huracán.

Exterior

A big part of this tuning program is the full aerodynamic body kit that Novitec Torado prepared specifically for the Huracán. The kit includes a number of useful new components, including a more pronounced front bumper, hood, side skirts, rear bumper, and rear diffuser. Most of these panels are made from carbon fiber with customers getting the option of availing them with or without any paint. A choice of three different spoilers is also a noteworthy feature of the program, each coming with their own distinct qualities. A discrete version is one option and there’s also one with a dual blade profile.

Rounding out the exterior upgrades is a new set of 20- and 21-inch three-piece forged NL1 wheels. The wheels come with tires measuring 245/30 and 325/25 in the front and rear, respectively.

Drivetrain

The main component of Novitec's tuning program for the Huracán LP580-2 is the engine upgrade. This isn’t just your standard upgrade either as the addition of two new superchargers help boost the 5.2-liter V-10 engine’s output to a staggering 830 horsepower. That’s an extra 250 horses added to the standard output of 580 horsepower.

No mention was made on any torque gains, but seeing that hefty increase in horsepower suggests a similar uptick in that department, possibly to around 600 pound-feet of torque. In addition to the pair of superchargers, Novitec also has a new sports exhaust system that’s available in either stainless steel or an Inconel alloy. This addition helps owners appreciate the supercharged soundtrack of the Huracán even more through a “sound management” system that can be controlled by a button installed inside the car’s cabin.

The tuner didn’t say how the addition of the superchargers will affect the car’s performance time. Considering that the Huracán LP580-2 is already capable of sprinting from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.4 seconds on its own, shaving off around 0.4 seconds to three seconds flat is a possibility. Likewise, an increase in top speed from 199 mph to somewhere in the 217 mph isn’t out of the cards either.

Suspension and Brakes

To accommodate the addition of superchargers and the resulting increase in horsepower, Novitec Torado also included its own sport springs, ensuring a 1.38-inch drop in the supercar’s ride height.

Pricing

Pricing for this particular program is unlikely to be revealed until the kit itself is complete. When that time comes, it’s best to contact Novitec Torado directly to get a specific price quote.

Competition

Porsche 911 Turbo S Stinger GT3 by TopCar

Lamborghini and Porsche don’t necessarily consider themselves as direct rivals, but every so often, both companies have models that fall right into each other’s eyeline. That’s the case between the entry level Huracán and the range-topping Porsche 911 Turbo S. The latter was the recent subject of an impressive program from Russian tuner TopCar and the kit’s main offering was an engine upgrade that netted the Porsche’s twin-turbo flat-six an output of 750 horsepower, 170 horses more than the sports car’s output of 580 horsepower. The new output gave the 911 Turbo S the power to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.6 seconds to go with a new top speed of 217 mph, putting it firmly in the neighbourhood of supercars.

Ferrari 488 GTB by xXx Performance

The Ferrari 488 GTB is the closest thing to a direct competitor that the Lamborghini Huracán has. It just so happens that the Ferrari has no shortage of tuning programs, including this one from xXx Performance. Introduced in December 2015, the German aftermarket company prepared a straightforward, three-stage tuning kit that puts as much as 1,000 horsepower and 922 pound-feet of torque into the 488 GTB’s turbocharged V-8 unit. Obviously, that’s not the comparison we’re looking for we’d have to go to lower stage upgrades to get it. The Stage 1 kit, for instance, helps increase the Ferrari’s output to 750 horsepower and 612 pound-feet of torque while the Stage 2 kit adds even more power to the tune of 850 horses and 686 pound-feet of twist.

Conclusion

Novitec Torado is a tried-and-tested name in the business, so when it releases a tuning program, there are high expectations that come with it. Fortunately, the tuner has rarely disappointed and this particular kit is no exception. From the aero kit to the massive increase in power, Novitec Torado has once again created a tuning program that owners of the Lamborghini Huracán LP580-2 can get on board with.
