The Range Rover->ke469 has stood as the quintessential luxury SUV ever since Land Rover->ke46 pulled the covers off of the model in 1970. Back then, it was deemed as a luxurious alternative to Land Rover. That sentiment has stood the test of time, and a discussion on luxury SUVs->ke505 today will always include the Range Rover.

The Range Rover’s status in the pecking order of extravagant SUVs->ke145 is secure, so much so that bespoke companies from other industries typically latch onto it when looking to create a special edition->ke2041 vehicle.

That’s the position British riflemaker Holland & Holland when it collaborated with Land Rover’s Special Vehicles Operations division to create “the most expensive Range Rover ever."

The limited-edition Holland & Holland Range Rover is based on the Range Rover Autobiography Black, the pinnacle of the model’s trim levels.

With a model on hand to work with, Land Rover’s SVO and Holland & Holland went to work, creating an exclusive masterpiece whose exterior appearance can only be trumped by an out-of-this-world interior.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is the Land Rover Range Rover SVO Holland & Holland Special Edition.

Exterior

If unique is what you want, unique is what you’ll get. That seems to be the ethos SVO and Holland & Holland adopted when it dressed up this Range Rover with a Holland & Holland Green finish. It covers the entire body of the luxury SUV, right down to the front grille, mirrors, and bonnet vent.

From there, SVO and Holland & Holland added chrome highlights to break the monotony of the deep-green shade and added special Holland & Holland badging on the lower accent door badges and the tailgate.

Interior

Open the door of this Range Rover and it’s like opening the door of the cabinet that leads to Narnia. It’s a completely different world of opulence and swankiness, even for the lofty standards we've placed on Land Rover's signature luxury SUV.

First of all, the long wheelbase of the Range Rover Autobiography Black comes in handy for those who want to make the most of the Executive Class seating package. Just looking at the photo and seeing those plush rear seats, softly upholstered in tan and espresso leather makes me want to wrap myself in a smooth silk blanket and sit there for the rest of my life. Between the seats that reclines quite a lot is a carefully designed center console that carries a surplus of amenities, including bespoke lighting, integrated USB charging sockets, and an enhanced stowage. Oh, it also has electrically deployable walnut tables.

The front seats aren’t as comfortable as the Executive Class rear seating, but they still received the same tan-and-espresso leather upholstery as the rest of the cabin. Plus, these seats are uniquely identified by Holland & Holland logos carefully embroidered on them.

The French walnut veneer is another signature design of this cabin, polished to resemble oil-finished gunstocks that have been used on Holland & Holland’s weapons since 1835. Meanwhile, located in the front center console, just below the A/C knobs, is an inlaid logo of Holland & Holland and a little to the top-right off that is the fascia letterbox panels with its gunstock checkering.

Now turn your attention to the doors and you’ll probably notice the engraved artwork on the handles, which is Holland & Holland’s very own acanthus scroll that's unique in its detail and has been a staple of the bespoke English riflemaker since the dawn of time.

The last and arguably most important feature of the Holland & Holland Range Rover is the removable, leather-trimmed, aluminum load space cabinet in the cargo area of the SUV. It’s an exclusive feature of this special-edition Range Rover that houses a pair of Holland & Holland rifles because any special-edition vehicle the rifle maker gets involved in needs to have its products as part of the entire package, at least for authenticity’s sake.

Drivetrain

In case you're interested in one, you can opt to buy the Holland & Holland Range Rover with either a 4.4-liter, SDV8, diesel engine or a stomach-punching, supercharged, 5.0-liter V-8. The former nets you 339 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque while the latter brings the output to a new level of insanity at 510 horsepower and 461 pound-feet of torque. Both versions come with eight-speed automatic transmissions.

Prices

When Land Rover says that the Holland & Holland Range Rover is the most expensive Range Rover ever, it does so without a tinge of exaggeration. Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) will only build 40 examples of this heavily decked-out Range Rover over a period of three years. That adds up to 120 total units, each coming with a recommended retail price (RRP) of £180,000. Do the math and that converts to roughly $284,873 as of 11/09/14.

Conclusion

How do you even begin to try encapsulating the Holland & Holland Range Rover? I'll try to put it this way: if James Bond ever laid his eyes on this SUV, he'd probably ditch Aston Martin permanently.
