The Land Rover Range Rover Sport is a car that pretty much needs no improvements. But there are people out there that can’t be satisfied by even the most sportier car and they need more. For this kind of people it has been created the Onyx Concept.
The concept features a widebody conversion, a mix of 14-piece interior panel kit, A&D pillars, front grill and side vents all made from 100% solid carbon fiber. It comes with a lowered suspension and Onyx branded TPM 22-inch wheels. There will also be power upgrade for both petrol and diesel engines, but Onyx gave no details on this.
The company is also preparing the Platinum V conversion for the Range Rover Vogue. This edition will feature a new front bumper, LED Stripes, carbon fibre grille, a redesigned rear bumper, dual exhaust instead of quad, a new rear diffuser and blacked-out double-spoke TPM custom wheels.
There’s no better way to promote a new car than to have it tested against the previous model and have the 2010 version thoroughly embarrass its predecessor.
Apparently, that’s exactly what Land Rover had in mind when it pitted the 2010 Range Rover Sport Supercharged against its 2009 counterpart in a test to determine which car can reach 100 mph first and then brake all the way down to a stop.
From the get-go the 2010 Range Rover Sport Supercharged immediately flexed its power over the 200 version by pulling away convincingly reaching its 100 mph speed and coming to halt even before the 2009 clocked 100 on its speedometer.
The difference is striking, to say the least. The 2010 version has 127 horsepower and around 51 lb-ft of torque more than the 2009 version, which accounts for all the difference.
Now, we’re all for promoting new cars, but for a brand to do it by completely trashing a previous model just may be a little too much for us.
Sometimes, we just can’t get enough of a good thing. And more often than not, we won’t waste any time taking advantage of it.
Land Rover recently unveiled their luxury armoured Range Rover, proving that you can enjoy the best in luxury, performance, and security all at the same time.
Coated in an impregnable B6 Level ballistic and blast protection, this particular Range Rover has the chops to withstand a barrage of bullets from an assault rifle, making it the perfect vehicle for people who need as much security in them as possible.
In addition to satisfying the safety and security requirements of the European standard EN1522 level FB6, the armoured Range Rover was also built while keeping up with Land Rover’s reputation for providing the most comfortable and luxurious SUV’s in the world.
Suffice to say, it’s the best of all words really. The name ‘Range Rover’ speaks for itself already, and if you add the fact that the car can withstand just about anything, then you can’t probably ask for more out of your own SUV.
Expanding from their traditional lineup of modified Mopar cars, the German tuners at Startech recently showed off a fast feline at the Frankfurt Motor Show and are continuing their upscale trend of tuner cars with an exclusive take on the Land RoverRange Rover and Freelander 2 luxury SUVs. By upgrading the interior of their modified Rovers with everything from Alcantara to color matched leather and elegant wood paneling, Startech is offering a level of exclusivity that the factory could only dream of offering. In fact they also offer a customer dictated customization program that leaves the choices up to the final consumer.
The exterior of the upscale off road Range Rover is left mostly untouched, the only upgrade to the body are a pair of LED driving lights molded into the front bumper that class up the SUV’s appearance without disturbing the conservative look. They did however find a set of their 22 inch Monostar IV light weight alloy wheels to fit at all four corners, these go a long way to adding a sense of sport to the luxury utility vehicle; something that is only accentuated by the trapezoidal stainless steel dual exhaust.
The more compact Freelander 2 wears a set of slightly smaller 20 inch Monostar IV rims and just like the larger Range Rover, the Land Rover got the LED driving light treatment, integrating it as part of the car’s factory front bumper. Out back Startech shows off their innovative sides by coming up with a lower hatch attachment that beefs up the Freelander 2’s behind and continues the factory lines across the tailgate and just below them are a familiar set of the trapezoidal tailpipes. So whether you are looking for an upscale SUV with a little sense of style no matter if it is big or small, Startech has something to brighten up your day.
Whoever thought that gun manufacturers can have their own special edition luxury SUV named after them. But apparently, you can. Just ask British sportgun and rifle maker Holland & Holland.
Thanks to the customization team of Overfinch, Land Rover and Holland & Holland have teamed up to create a special edition Range Rover, the fruit of what we can only imagine as a match-up made in testosterone paradise.
The Range Rover, which will predictably be called the Holland & Holland Range Rover will be made available on either the 5-liter 503 horsepower Supercharged or the TDV8 diesel variants with a limited stock of only 100 units per annum.
The special edition Range will carry with it a number of unique features including a veneered wood dash, matching numbered plaques and a steering wheel that will be custom-designed to match the driver’s gun.
Interested Range Rover and/or gun nuts can place their orders for the car now before they run out of stock. Would-be buyers will also need to shell out £139,650 in the UK for one Holland & Holland Range Rover.
The now Indian owned Land Rover brand will unveil the limited edition Range Rover Sport Autobiography at the Frankfurt Motor Show. With a scheduled production of only 500 units, the new limited edition Land Rover will feature interior upgrades like a two tone premium leather as well as a few unique exterior design cues like the mesh grill and matching fender vents and a set of 20 inch diamond finished alloy wheels to complete the exterior.
The Autobiography edition Land Rover is based on the 3.6 liter TDV8 and Supercharged versions of the go anywhere all terrain vehicles and will be available with the world class Logic 7 1200W Harman Kardon High Dynamics audio system that features up to 15 independent channels of clean crisp sound being delivered through 19 premium quality speakers.
Speaking of anniversaries, Land Rover is set to celebrate its 40th birthday next year and in line with the occasion, the company is planning on unveiling its new flagship luxury SUV, the Range Rover LRX.
The tentative date set for the SUV’s official release is June 17 - the day Land Rover turns 40 – with plans for the car’s production to begin on June 17.
While the car’s concept has already been revealed, it seems that rumors abound that the production car will retain very little from what we saw with the aforementioned concept vehicle, although the notable exception would be the optional hybrid drivetrain that both the conception (has) and what the production version will eventually have.
It’s never an easy task for a company that has lost so much money as Land Rover has on a luxury SUV, especially given its market, which has dried up faster than a desert lake on a hot Sunday afternoon.
Nevertheless, Land Rover is hedging their bets on their flagship luxury SUV – a car that has been a perennial hot seller for the company.
Now we’re not exactly sure how elaborate Land Rover’s 40th anniversary celebration is going to be, but judging from the way a lot of manufacturers celebrated their milestone years in 2009, we’re going to expect nothing less than spectacular from Land Rover.
Judging from this announcement, we dare say that they’re off to a good start.
Jaguar and Land Rover may have turned over new leaves with the recent launch of the new XJ and the strong showing of the Range Rover SUV, but they still couldn’t escape the reality of seeing the staggering amount of money – to the tune of $1.1 billion - they lost in 2008.
It’s a mind-numbing number that can be attributed to the global financial crisis, which has battered the auto industry. In their defense, the two manufacturers aren’t alone in reporting losses from the previous year, but it must be a bitter ----to swallow for both automakers, especially when they reported a profit of $1.05 billion in 2007.
UFC Fighter Dan Henderson recently found himself on the good side of a brand new Range Rover for becoming the winning coach during the recently concluded The Ultimate Fighter 10. Up against Michael ‘The Count’ Bisping – who coached Team UK opposite the Henderson-backed Team US – Henderson not only steered his team to victory, he also got the pleasure of knocking out Bisping at UFC 100. It seemed like Henderson couldn’t do anything wrong, that is, until he got behind the wheel of his Range Rover.
After his highlight-reel knockout of Bisping, Henderson was on his way back to his home in Temecula, California in his Range Rover when it inexplicably broke down right in the middle of the desert. That’s right. The Range Rover was barely a month old when it conked out.
We don’t know exactly the reason behind the Range Rover’s sudden malfunction but it must suck anyway to have it give out on you without even reaching four digits on the odometer. It’s a good thing Henderson has a sense of humor because after the untimely incident, he sent a message to White saying, “Thanks for the car, Dana. Hope it comes with a warranty!”
Nevertheless, Henderson was able to have the car fixed and was even spotted driving it to the ESPY Awards in Los Angeles. Let’s just hope that this time, he can go back to Temecula without having to call AAA again.
Land Rovers are amazing vehicles; they have made a name for themselves traversing large bodies of uninhabitable land be it in desserts of Russia or the jungles of Belize. Sixty years ago Land Rovers were rugged machines, built to stand up to the greatest challenges. These days the level of luxury and sophistication has caught up with the off road machines capabilities. Unlike the classic Defender, modern Land Rovers are filled with high tech items like electronically locking differentials and adjustable ride height air suspension. With one of these vehicles you can cruise down the highway at 90 MPH, pull off onto the shoulder, turn a knob and the truck will automatically prepare itself to go rock crawling. The versatility of these vehicles is outstanding.
