Land Rover LR3 broadens its line-up in 2006 with the addition of a V6 engine, giving consumers a greater level of trim choices for the award winning SUV. Additionally, the highly popular third row seating option is now standard on all HSE models. Since its introduction last year, LR3’s powerful on-road performance, unparalleled off-road standards, and state-of-the-art technologies have set a new industry standard. Already, LR3 has become the most decorated SUV of 2005, capturing more than 20 U.S. awards. In addition to the existing 4.4-liter 300 bhp V8 engine, LR3 offers the new 4.0-liter 216 bhp V6 engine. All V6 models come equipped with a long list of four-wheel drive technologies including the innovative Terrain Response™ system, and four-corner electronic air suspension. HIGHLIGHTS
BODY/CHASSIS CONSTRUCTION The chassis features an Integrated Body-frame™ which allows Land Rover to deliver the comfort, refinement and on-road attributes of a monocoque, while continuing to set new standards in off-road performance. The combination of a tough frame mated to a rigid body structure provides occupants with a secure zone in the event of a collision. The complex design of the chassis frame, with its hydroformed construction, reflects this work in its contribution to the safety and crash performance characteristics of the LR3. Key chassis features include:
POWERTRAIN V6
V8
As with the current V8, the V6 engine is mated to a six-speed ‘intelligent shift’ electronically controlled ZF automatic transmission. Its ‘sport’ mode delivers more performance-oriented throttle response and gear shifts, and features Land Rover’s CommandShift™ operation – giving the driver full manual control of gear changing. All LR3’s come with a two-speed electronic transfer gearbox and permanent four-wheel drive with traction control. Land Rover’s sophisticated Terrain Response™ system comes standard on LR3 vehicles. This technology improves driver control and maximizes traction over a variety of surfaces, especially off-road. By selecting one of the five terrain programs, Terrain Response™ automatically selects the most appropriate settings for the vehicle’s advanced electronic controls and traction aids – including ride height, engine torque response, hill descent control, electronic traction control and transmission setting. The five programs are for general driving, grass/gravel/snow, mud/ruts, sand and rock crawl.Key powertrain features include:
SUSPENSION, WHEELS & TIRES The V6 and SE models are fitted with 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels, while the HSE models come standard with 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels. V6; SE

LR3 is equipped with four-corner independent, height-adjustable electronic air suspension, giving it great driver feedback and a comfortable ride. It is fit with automatic load-leveling and multiple modes, including access, standard and off-road. The computer-controlled air springs allow for automatically softer or firmer springing, depending on road or track conditions. They are also cross-linked, further aiding off-road capability. Tires are specially developed for Land Rover requirements, and suitable for on- or off-road use. Key suspension features include:
SAFETY & SECURITY The design of the chassis was evolved with safety in mind. The strong Integrated Body-frame™ architecture of the LR3, with its hydroformed construction, offers protection in case of impacts, and door-mounted anti-intrusion side-beams offer further protection. The front structure of the frame is designed to provide the collision load path with buckle points to control its collapse in the event of an impact. The load path is deliberately designed to take into account differential crash performance. LR3 has extremely powerful four-wheel disc brakes and ABS, electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) and emergency brake assist (EBA) to provide an automatic extra boost when a panic stop is detected. LR3 is equipped with eight airbags on seven-seat vehicles and six on five-seat models. The driver and passenger airbags deploy in two stages depending on the severity of the frontal impact. The side impact protection system has a combination of seat-mounted thorax airbags for the front seat occupants and side curtain airbags for outboard occupants for all rows. Key safety and security features include:
AUDIO & NAVIGATION EQUIPMENT An AM/FM audio system with a single-disc in-dash CD player and six speakers is standard in V6 models. A 240-watt harman/kardon ® AM/FM-stereo system with six-disc in-dash CD changer and nine speakers comes in the V8 SE (optional in V6). A 550-watt harman/kardon ® LOGIC7™ digital surround sound AM/FM-stereo audio system with six-disc in-dash CD changer and 14 speakers is standard in the V8 HSE. A state-of-the-art, touch screen DVD-based navigation system is available with both 2D and 3D map displays, which includes both on-and off-road navigation. The personal telephone integration system allows owners to use their own mobile phone in the car either via an integrated cradle or with the wireless convenience of Bluetooth™ technology. The system that links in-car entertainment and navigation systems uses fiber optic cabling and is called MOST ® (Media Oriented System Transport) network. COMFORT & CONVENIENCE The entire cabin has been designed for comfort, and spaciousness is evident throughout the vehicle. When equipped with third-row seating – which is standard on HSE models – LR3 can accommodate up to seven adult passengers. Front row, bucket seats are fully electrically adjustable and are trimmed with leather seating surfaces. The second row bench seats three and is set higher in Land Rover’s “stadium seating” configuration. The available front facing third row of seats is set higher so all passengers can see forward as well as upward though the Alpine windows in the rear roof section.
