Land Rover finally took the wraps off the 2011 Range Rover and brought forth the first details on the new SUV. For 2011, the Range Rover gets a new, class-leading V8 diesel engine, new 8-speed transmission, two significant Terrain Response upgrades, and subtle external styling. But first things first; the engine. The LR-TDV8 4.4-liter with parallel sequential turbocharging replaces the outstanding LR-TDV8 3.6-liter and delivers a total of 313 HP and 700Nm torque. It is mated to a new, electronically controlled, ZF 8HP70, 8-speed automatic gearbox (available only on the 4.4-liter LR-TDV8 models) and has a fuel consumption of 30.1mpg. The sprint from 0 to 60 mph is made in 7.5 seconds. The top version will still get a 5.0-liter LR-V8, supercharged petrol engine that delivers a total of 510 HP and 625Nm torque and sprints the SUV from 0 to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds. The exterior gets new ‘Jupiter’ grilles and side vents for the diesel models and, for the interior, Land Rover added optional illuminated treadplates for the front doors, new transmission controls for the diesel model, and improvements to the entertainment system. There is also an available Exterior Design Pack option that gives customers the chance to give their Range Rover a more individual look. Press release after the jump. Press release “The 2011 Range Rover retains its position as one of the world’s most complete luxury vehicles. Its combination of reduced CO2 emissions and superior engine performance continue to make it a clear industry benchmark. And with the introduction of our all-new ’super diesel’, we see the Range Rover delivering over 30mpg for the first time.” Phil Popham, Land Rover Managing Director The LR-TDV8 4.4-litre with parallel sequential turbocharging replaces the outstanding LR-TDV8 3.6-litre and is unique to the Range Rover. An all-new ‘super-diesel’, the LR-TDV8 combines superior power and massive torque with unparalleled levels of refinement. Despite the extra performance, this sublime V8 engine is cleaner too, delivering even lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions than its predecessor and meeting the stringent EU5 emissions standards. The headline news, though, is that the combined cycle fuel consumption of the new LR-TDV8 4.4-litre is just 30.1mpg, making this the first Range Rover ever to better 30mpg. Available only on 4.4-litre LR-TDV8 models, this ‘smart’ transmission integrates with the diesel engine to deliver the most efficient operating regime in all conditions. To reflect the performance of the new 4.4-litre LR-TDV8, diesel models are fitted with the same Brembo-based braking system fitted to the 5.0-litre LR-V8 supercharged model. Providing the immense stopping power required for only the highest performing vehicles, the system comprises 380mm ventilated front discs with unique, lightweight aluminium six-piston opposed action monoblock calipers. 365mm ventilated discs with single piston sliding calipers are fitted at the rear. 11 comments: Land Rover Range Rover In spite of being too bulky, I can say that I love the fact that it is ideal on an outdoor activity, and I also noticed that it looks so massive on its wheels and even on its platform.
The speed performance of the car is quite impressive! I really love the sportiness of this vehicle and its decent styling. I wonder if they have planned in changing the platform of the car?
What else to say but this production vehicle is quite successful in the American market. The engine performance of the car is kind of powerful for a SUV car. I think this is the best option for Sports Utility.
Yeah, I have to agree that the face of this car is kind of boring. However, when talking about reliability this car is definitely the best option. And the speed performance of this car is quite impressive.
Yeah, this would be the a legendary off-roader. However, the face of this car is kind of boring. I think jeep or truck version looks cooler than this car.
the legend of hard core off roader still lives on.. even the new model of land rover has become more comfortable to drive still the hardness and toughness of the old LR.
The only thing that is a little off putting would be the interior seat material, not sure if I like it.
Well, the interior design is nice and had made a lot of changes, but the exterior design is kinda look unaltered with their previous model.
Well, I’ll get mad to Ford for sticking this one in Land Rover’s face after the unwarranted comments from LR about the Explorer terrain response system.
