2007 Lexus IS 250

In its second year on the market, the next-generation Lexus IS 250 luxury sport sedans ratchet up both handling performance and comfort with reconfigured standard equipment, option packages, and the ability to disengage the stability and traction control systems. The V6-powered Lexus IS models, which debuted in 2006, combine striking styling with one of the most compelling packages of performance, luxury, and safety in this highly competitive segment.

The 2007 IS line again offers three models, each powered by a new-generation, high-output V6 engine. The IS 250 is powered by a 204-horsepower 2.5-liter version of the new V6 and is available as a rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive model.

Lexus IS 250

New for 2007, the "X Package" option for the IS rear-wheel-drive models combines sport suspension and five-spoke, 18-inch alloy wheels with a boldly styled front-lip spoiler, sport pedals, and illuminated door scuff plates. A new Premium Package has been made standard for the all-wheel drive IS 250 and optional for the rear-wheel-drive models and includes perforated leather seating trim and heated and ventilated front seats. The comprehensive "Sport" and "Luxury" option packages share much of their content, with the Sport Package also including sport suspension.

"Lexus alone offers a unique choice in the entry-luxury segment, with the rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive IS models emphasizing the sportier side and the front-wheel drive ES 350 focusing on ultimate comfort," said Lexus Group Vice President and General Manager Bob Carter. "The ES and IS models, of course, deliver the expected Lexus dedication to quality, along with true luxury that enhances the driving experience rather than distracting from it."

True to Lexus tradition, the IS 250 model has been rewarding customers with exemplary quality. Most recently, the IS was named Highest-Ranked Entry Premium Car in the in the 2006 J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality StudySM.

Lexus IS 250

Dynamic Appeal

The Lexus IS sedans show a strong family resemblance to the Lexus GS, while establishing their own distinctively upscale, sporty presence. A notably wide stance and long wheelbase, coupled with tightly drawn bodywork, give the IS an athletic yet sophisticated style. Carefully shaped body contours, a subtle ducktail-curved trunk lid and "air kick" tail lamps contribute to a low 0.28 coefficient of drag (Cd). Close attention to underbody-airflow management reduces drag and also helps minimize and balance front and rear lift to enhance high-speed stability and handling.

While the sound of powerful V6 engines will resonate with driving enthusiasts, all vehicle occupants will appreciate Lexus’ ability to keep undesirable noises to a minimum. A highly rigid body structure is the starting point for controlling noise intrusion. Strategically placed noise-suppression materials, including special window and door seals, acoustic windshield glass and asphalt sheeting, take over from there. The attention paid to reducing aerodynamic drag is also evident in the A-pillar and outside rearview mirror designs, which lower wind noise from a notoriously difficult area. No detail has been overlooked, down to sound-absorbing sun visors.

Lexus IS 250

High-Technology Safety and Luxury

In addition to their performance-oriented powertrains, the IS models bring a wide array of standard and available features designed to convey the true Lexus feel throughout. Lexus’ focus on safety for the IS models includes standard Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) for the IS 250. The IS 350 is exclusively equipped with a sport-oriented version of the Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system, an advanced technology that integrates all of the car’s dynamic-control systems. All IS models feature eight standard airbags, and the IS was the first car in its segment to offer an optional pre-collision system that can help reduce collision damage.

The Lexus IS also offers premium, high-technology options more often associated with prestige-luxury models, such as Dynamic Radar Cruise Control; Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS); heated and ventilated front seats; a power-tilt-telescope steering wheel and – exclusive to Lexus – a 14-speaker Mark Levinson® Premium Surround Sound Audio System.

Design

Following the next generation GS, the new Lexus IS sedan is the second road-going iteration of L-finesse, the unique Lexus design philosophy. Deeply rooted in Japanese culture, this design rationale informs every aspect of the new IS,
developing strong visual synergies between the interior and exterior design of the new Lexus.

Combining a wide track and prominent wheel arches with short front and rear overhangs to give the car a low centre of gravity and a broad, muscular stance, the next generation IS marries the elegance of powerful, sweeping coachwork lines with an intriguing contrast of convex and concave surfacing. The resultant purity of overall form is complemented by a substantial reduction in exterior component gaps – in some cases to just 0.35 mm.

Lexus IS 250

On board, a stunning new interior has evolved from the further combination of convex and concave surfaces. Rigorous fit and finish management has reduced, and in some cases eradicated altogether, gaps between interior components, creating an environment of clean, uncluttered luxury unprecedented in this class. Careful consideration has gone into the modelling and spacing of individual components, with a detailed coordination of new, LED interior illumination, chrome highlighting to key touch surfaces such as the steering wheel mounted gear shift paddles, and a bird’s eye maple wood centre console finished by Yamaha’s piano manufacturing craftsmen.

Rear seat legroom has been significantly improved through the addition of 60 mm to the wheelbase of the new Lexus, increasing the distance between front and rear passengers to a class-leading 881 mm. Seating upholstery is available in a choice of standard fabric, sports fabric and perforated, semi-aniline leather, double stitched to unprecedented tolerances.

Exterior Design

The next generation IS marries the elegance of powerful, sweeping lines with an intriguing contrast of convex and concave surfacing which reinforces the central tenets of the L-finesse philosophy. The resultant purity of overall form is complimented by a substantial reduction in exterior component gaps – those between bumpers and adjacent body panels having been reduced to just 0.35 mm.

Lexus IS 250

To the front, a trademark, vertically latticed grille instantly identifies the new IS as a dynamic member of the Lexus marque; its wide track and prominent wheel arches combine with short front and rear overhangs to give the car a low centre of gravity and a broad, robust yet sophisticated appearance. The aggressive, twin-barrel headlamp clusters are positioned on a
higher plane than the grille itself. This carefully considered disposition of the key frontal elements will become a unique characteristic of future Lexus models, focusing the eye at the very apex of the vehicle to strengthen the impression of speed and agility.

The IS grille generates a powerful coachwork line which highlights the clean muscular bonnet surface before sweeping seamlessly into the windscreen pillar. An adjacent concave surface stretches between bonnet and wheel arch to reinforce the car’s wide, dynamic front stance, and is punctuated by a new, sporting, door-mounted mirror design as it flows into the narrowing belt line. In profile, tight shoulders and a wide side surface support a steeply raked windscreen and a “C” pillar glazing motif inspired by “Kirikaeshi”, a symbol of traditional Japanese culture that expresses dynamism through a rapid, yet fluid change of direction, creating an analogy to Japanese calligraphy or the movement of a Samurai sword. This strong “arrowhead” motif will become a key future styling element to the Lexus marque.

Lexus IS 250

Astern, splayed rear wheel arches taper into a short rear overhang topped with powerful LED lamp clusters. The unique sporting design graphic of the rear lamp cluster reflects an elegance central to the L-finesse philosophy, and once more sets a precedent for the styling of future Lexus models. The IS’s widespread adoption of external LED illumination to stop, clearance and licence plate lights not only provides a sharper, more refined light source, but also increases lamp life and promotes energy saving – 50% in the case of license plate illumination. The next generation IS will be available in a range of ten colours, of which two are exclusive to this model. Four ‘character’ premium quality paint finishes have been specifically developed to embody the Lexus L-finesse design philosophy reflected in the exterior styling: Glacial Blue has
an enhanced brilliance under strong sunlight, Ice Blue emphasises the contrasts in convex and concave surfacing, Desert Sage Green, unique to the new Lexus IS, offers subtle changes in hue reflecting the maturity of a Lexus saloon, and Morello Red, a wet, glossy look with outstanding depth, is a multi-layer finish employing aluminium for the first base coat and artificial
mica for the second, resulting in highlight brilliance and a greater change of colour intensity from highlight to shade.

Lexus IS 250

Interior design

On board, the L-finesse design philosophy is perfectly reflected in a stunning new interior, which once more combines convex and concave surfaces; the former denoting control functions such as the centre console switchgear and engine start button, the latter accommodating driver and passengers. The seamless, dynamic flow of the door panel surfaces into the dashboard culminate with the projecting instrument binnacle, the focal point of the new IS cabin.

The vertical linking of cabin elements through the centre console and door grips, once again inspired by the “Kirikaeshi” principle, further reinforce the volumetric homogeny of the interior design, whilst the apparently dislocated position of the side air vents reflects the influence of another symbol of Japanese traditional culture, “Hazushi”, or “shift out of phase”.
This expresses the intriguing notion of something that is part of a whole but, at the same time, retains its independence.

A combination of high quality slush moulding and vacuum forming production processes have been adopted for the upper and lower dashboard, as well as the door trim panels. These soft-touch components are finished in a new, scratch resistant natural grain pattern which enhances the visual, tactile and acoustic refinement of the new IS interior. A black, upper dashboard finish may be combined with a choice of three lower dashboard colours: matching black, frosty grey or ivory.

Rigorous fit and finish management has reduced, and in some cases eradicated altogether, gaps between interior components, creating an environment of clean, uncluttered luxury unprecedented in this class. And careful consideration has gone into the modelling and spacing of individual components, with a detailed coordination of both interior illumination and finishes to touch surfaces such as the chrome highlighting to door handles, gear shift paddles, gear knob and starter button.

Lexus IS 250

Used in conjunction with conventional, incandescent bulb lighting, brighter, more focused LED illumination to front and rear map reading lights, front passenger footwell and gear lever puddle lighting adds an enhanced elegance to the after-dark ambience of the new Lexus’ interior. Luxury specification IS models further feature unique, blue LED illumination to the stainless steel front door scuff plates.

Also unique to the IS Luxury specification, the centre console is finished in bird’s eye maple wood. Only 1% of global bird’s eye maple supplies meets Lexus’ exacting standards, and it takes more than three weeks to select, process and finish the wood. Sourced from sustainable plantations in Canada, the centre console panel is laminated to an aluminium backing plate to ensure optimum rigidity before being cut into three component parts for the manufacture of the main panel, ashtray lid and storage compartment lid. This approach, though time consuming, ensures absolute visual consistency of the finished console.

Body and chassis

With a body shell of high torsional stiffness, featuring aluminium bonnet, suspension members and powerplants to reduce overall weight, the next generation IS is wider and lower than its competitors. The resultant low centre of gravity combines with a sophisticated suspension system and new electric power steering to afford the next generation Lexus a dynamic driving performance without compromising the marque’s legendary ride quality. Smooth, minimal panel-gap bodywork and the use of numerous aerodynamic under-body elements combine to promote high-speed stability and minimal wind noise, whilst reducing fuel consumption. And comprehensive anti-noise vibration and harshness (NVH) measures ensure the reduction of external noise intrusion to a minimum, for ultra-quiet cabin acoustics.

Lexus IS 250

Based on a new, luxury saloon platform which it shares with the latest generation GS range, the new Lexus IS Lexus IS is 175 mm longer and 75 mm wider than its predecessor, with a track width increased by 40 mm to the front and 60 mm to the rear.

Excellent torsional stiffness, increased by 20% over the current model, is achieved through the extensive use of high tensile steel sheeting throughout the bodyshell, allied to a brace installed between the frontal attachment of the rear sub-frame and the front floor reinforcement. Transverse rigidity is further improved through the pipe brace interconnection
of the new bracing members.

Moreover, the bonnet, main powerplant components and diverse suspension elements are all fabricated in aluminium to reduce yaw moment and unsprung weight, therefore enhancing the agility of the new Lexus IS.

Aerodynamics

With a drag coefficient of just 0.27, the new Lexus IS is one of the most aerodynamically efficient cars in its segment. The sleek, flowing bodywork boasts exceptionally narrow panel gaps and minimal protrusions. Flush bonnet, headlight and windscreen surface surrounds minimise airflow separation, whilst door mounted mirrors reduce air turbulence adjacent to the ‘A’ pillar. Astern, a duck-tail lip to the boot lid trailing edge and an “air-kick” detail moulded into the tail lamp clusters ensure a clean passage of air to further reduce drag and turbulence. A deep front spoiler, side skirts, front and rear tyre fairings, and covers to the cabin floor, transmission, fuel tank and rear suspension create the smoothest, flattest possible surface to enhance high-speed vehicle stability and reduce wind noise to a minimum.

Lexus IS 250

Furthermore, a new engine undercover has been designed to create a Venturi effect, which generates downforce to ensure a 0 lift coefficient at high speeds, whilst a rear floor diffuser features twin vertical fins - in the manner of racing sportscar undertrays - to reduce the rear lift coefficient and bolster high speed handling stability.

Suspension

The new Lexus IS is equipped with a double wishbone front and multilink rear suspension configuration which combines legendary Lexus ride comfort with the excellent handling and dynamic abilities.

Front Suspension

The front, high-mount, double wishbone suspension system combines a lightweight, forged aluminium knuckles with a high tensile steel lower arm and a hollow anti-roll bar to reduce unsprung weight.

Lexus IS 250

The new suspension configuration features a 35% higher camber angle than that of the current IS, which improves steering wheel centring, enhances negative camber to the outside wheel when cornering, and improves steering feedback. An 18% higher kingpin angle improves straight line stability, a 10% increase in caster trail promotes a more stable steering feel, and a 22% reduction in roll centre height provides improved cornering stability with reduced body roll. In addition, new, forward mounted power steering gear allied to low toe variation along the suspension stroke promote a more linear yaw response, precise steering control and excellent straight line, high speed stability.

Rear Suspension

To the rear, an advanced multilink set-up with toe control arms and an aluminium rear axle carrier combines stiffer suspension component materials with a reduction in unsprung mass for excellent ride comfort with high cornering stability. The adoption of a double-linked upper arm and integrated bearings and hub combines optimised geometry and high rigidity with significant weight reduction. The utilisation of a multilink configuration facilitates the optimum balance of handling, stability and ride comfort: The upper arms contribute to a reduction in upward spring motion, the mid-arm contributes to reduced body roll, and the lower arm provides an improved anti-lift / anti-squat ratio. Moreover, aligning the shock absorbers along the same, lower axis as the coil springs facilitates a wider boot loadspace.

Lexus IS 250

Advanced Steering, Powerful Brakes

The Electric Power Steering (EPS) rack and pinion steering gear helps to provide linear steering response, precise control and better straight-line stability. In addition, the vehicle-speed-sensitive system helps offer more precise control of steering assist than a traditional hydraulic system can, eliminates parasitic loss from a hydraulic pump, and reduces weight and complexity.

The Lexus IS braking systems are commensurate with their performance capability. A variable ratio link-type pedal and tierod-type booster enhance brake-pedal rigidity and system response. The IS 250 features ventilated front and solid rear rotors.

Standard all-season performance tires measure 225/45R17 in front and 245/45R17 for the rear (225/45R17 on AWD). Available as a stand-alone option or as part of the sport suspension, performance-tread ("summer") 225/40R18 front tires and 255/40R18 rear tires reward the enthusiast driver with even higher cornering grip.

Powertrains

The IS 250’s 2.5-liter V6 engine delivers 204 horsepower at 6,400 RPM and 185 lb.-ft. of peak torque at 4,800 RPM. The IS 350’s 3.5-liter version delivers a best-in-class 306 horsepower at 6,400 RPM along with 277 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,800 RPM. Both of these V6 engines use aluminum cylinder blocks and heads and employ dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i), which controls timing on both the intake and exhaust camshafts. A dual-exhaust system reduces backpressure at higher engine speeds, and a variable-valve system in the mufflers helps reduce noise at lower speeds.

Lexus IS 250

A direct-type fuel-injection system provides a cooling effect in the cylinders, enabling the high compression needed to extract maximum energy from the fuel. Both engines benefit as well from reduced internal friction via chain-driven camshafts and roller-rocker arms. Aside from its larger displacement, the 3.5-liter V6 differs chiefly in that it augments the direct fuel injection with port fuel injectors. In light- and medium-load conditions, these additional injectors help produce a precise burn, increasing power and efficiency.

An advanced six-speed automatic transmission with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters is standard on the IS 350, IS 250 and the all-wheel drive model. The rear-wheel drive IS 250 comes standard with a crisp-shifting six-speed manual transmission, with the paddle-shift automatic offered as an option.

The high technology also pays dividends in fuel economy, with the IS 350 returning an EPA-estimated 21 mpg city/28 mpg highway. The IS 250 has an EPA-estimated 24 mpg city/32 mpg highway with the six-speed automatic transmission, 20 mpg city/28 mpg highway for the six-speed manual, and the IS 250 AWD model attains 22 mpg city/28 mpg highway. All 2007 Lexus IS models carry the Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle II (ULEV II) certification.

Lexus IS 250

Sophisticated Dynamics Match High Power

The Lexus IS was engineered from the tires up for a sporty driving experience. The double-wishbone front suspension features a high-mount upper control arm, and the lower arm uses a large, liquid-filled bushing at the rear to minimize vibration and harshness. The multilink rear suspension emphasizes precise control of geometry in all dynamic conditions, helping make the IS sport sedans ultra-stable for confident driving. High-strength steel and aluminum suspension components reduce unsprung weight, helping the IS remain stable on bumpy surfaces and improving ride comfort.

Monotube shock absorbers employ larger pistons than conventional twin-tube shocks to provide superior damping-force response and control, especially at low piston speeds. The sophisticated shock-absorber design utilizes multileaf linear control valves to help improve damping force, plus rebound springs that offer improved body control without the typical ride comfort tradeoffs. Available sport suspension with 18-inch wheels further enhances handling response.

In the IS 250, VSC helps to control loss of lateral traction while cornering by using throttle intervention and applying individual wheel braking to help control any discrepancy between where the driver is steering and where the vehicle is heading. The IS 350 is exclusively equipped with Lexus’ innovative VDIM system to provide superior handling dynamics and traction control.

Lexus IS 250

Transmission

Both diesel and petrol engined versions of the new Lexus IS are mated to a compact, accurate, 6-speed manual transmission featuring multi cone synchronisers to reduce shift effort, slide ball bearings in the gear lever shaft and fork shaft to improve shift efficiency, a triple synchro mechanism from 1st to 3rd gears to enhance shift feel, and a shift guide plate to decrease post-shift transmission play.

The IS 220d features a quiet, durable driveline adopted from the Lexus LS 430 and further enhanced by a liquid-filled differential mount for improved vibration damping. Models equipped with 18" wheels (standard in Sport specification and optional in the Luxury grade) feature a shorter differential gear ratio which improves in-gear acceleration by an average of 30%.

As well as the standard 6-speed manual transmission, the ultra-smooth Lexus V6 may be mated to a new 6-speed automatic transmission featuring sequential, paddle-shift control. Activated by simply selecting ‘S’ in the gear lever gate, the gear shift paddles are mounted directly on the steering wheel, eliminating the need to modify steering wheel grip, even when cornering. In addition, gear range selection can also be performed through the conventional gear lever.

Lexus IS 250

Providing a faster downshift than fully automatic mode, the sequential mode allows for greater driver involvement, allowing exploitation of the new Lexus’ dynamic abilities to the full. This transmission adopts 3 planetary gear units, 4 clutches and 4 one-way clutches. A new clutch-to-clutch shift control is adopted between 5th and 6th gears, eliminating the one-way
clutch between them to both save weight and facilitate a more compact design. An Artificial Intelligence (AI-SHIFT) control automatically changes the gear shifting schedule according to road conditions and driving style.

While an enhanced lock-up timing control can improve fuel consumption in 5th and 6th gears, an automatic transmission fluid warmer further benefits fuel economy during cold starts.

Comfort Through Ultimate Convenience

The brand’s traditional attention to comfort and convenience is abundantly present in the overtly sporty IS. The luxurious and muscular cabin features intelligently designed displays and controls that are easy to see and use. Bright, clear Optitron® gauges and smartly integrated metallic or available Bird’s-eye Maple trim help create an elegant yet active environment. Premium interior materials and meticulous attention to detail strongly convey the Lexus identity.

Lexus IS 250

Standard amenities include 10-way power front seats; dual-zone automatic climate control with rear-seat vents and pollen filter; power moonroof with one-touch open/close and seven open-position settings; manual tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel; all power windows with automatic up/down feature and jam protection, and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror.

Lexus offers a refreshing approach to designing controls as compared to some competitors that are making controls more complex to learn and distracting to use. One example is the multi-information display located in the speedometer. This versatile feature integrates a trip computer that provides: outside temperature; driving range; average fuel consumption; average fuel consumption since refueling (per tank); current fuel consumption; and average speed. The display also includes an oil-maintenance reminder and system warnings, all grouped in one convenient location.

Additional features are added to the multi-information display depending on selected options. When an IS model is equipped with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, the display can show a car icon with the selected following distance; when equipped with Intuitive Park Assist, the display can show a car icon with the location and distance of objects detected near the bumpers. A multi-function switch allows the driver to set an adjustable speed warning and an adjustable-RPM shift light in the tachometer.

Lexus IS 250

The SmartAccess keyless entry and push-to-start ignition allows the driver to keep the access fob in a pocket or purse. The standard HomeLink® programmable garage door opener also operates home security devices and other systems.

The Sound of Luxury

The standard Lexus Premium Audio System features a six-disc in-dash CD changer, 194 watts of total power and 13 speakers. Automatic Sound Levelizer (ASL) maintains consistent sound levels at varying vehicle speeds. A convenient mini-jack in the center console enables connection of an iPod® or other digital music player.

Like all Lexus models, the IS offers its own version of the Mark Levinson® Premium Surround Sound Audio System that is available in conjunction with the optional DVD touch-screen navigation system.

Lexus IS 250

This 14-speaker system features discrete 5.1 multi-channel playback with 7.1-channel speaker architecture. Its 10 amplifier channels provide 300 watts total output at 0.1 percent total harmonic distortion (THD). The Mark Levinson® system plays conventional CDs and DVDs, plus MP3/WMA-formatted CDs. DVD movies can be viewed on the optional navigation system’s color seven-inch touch screen when the vehicle is parked.

Safety

Passive-safety technology in the Lexus IS begins with a reinforced passenger compartment that helps protect the occupants with front-and rear-crush structures. Seat Seat belt pre-tensioners and force limiters are used for the front and outboard rear seats. In addition to the dual-front airbags and front seat-mounted side airbags, the Lexus Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) includes side-curtain airbags that extend from A-pillar to C-pillar, as well as a knee airbag for both the driver and the front passenger.

Lexus IS 250

Advanced dual-stage front airbags are designed to deploy at one of two speeds, according to impact force. The driver’s front airbag also includes an extra low stage designed to deploy based, in part, on the seat’s position on its track. The front passenger’s airbag features two chambers, creating an indentation in the center impact area that helps to disperse the force of the bag.

First introduced on the previous-generation LS flagship model, the Pre-Collision System (PCS) can help reduce collision damage and is now available on all Lexus sedan model lines. The package includes Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, which uses millimeter-wave radar to measure and maintain a set distance from a vehicle traveling ahead. PCS relies on the radar sensor to detect obstacles in front of the car, and a PCS computer with sensor inputs from vehicle speed, steering angle and yaw rate is designed to determine whether a collision is unavoidable.

In such a situation, PCS preemptively retracts front seat belts and pre-initializes Brake Assist so that increased braking will be applied the instant the driver depresses the pedal.

Lexus IS 250

Car-To-Car Compatibility And Roll-Over Tests

The IS 250 is the first Lexus to be developed according to the company’s own, more stringent, car-to-car compatibility crash-test standards. Previously enacted at 50 km/h, these tests now comprise a 55 km/h frontal collision involving a 2-ton vehicle (50% overlap impact, both vehicles moving at the same speed), a 55 km/h side impact from a 2-ton vehicle, and a rear, 50% overlap crash, again involving a similar vehicle. The 5 km/h speed increase represents an additional 20% impact energy. In addition, the new model has also undergone rigorous roll-over testing.

This stringent test programme ensures the new Lexus IS’s class-leading passive safety technology affords optimum passenger protection in the most comprehensive diversity of real-world situations.

Airbags

Driver and passenger knee airbags make a first appearance in this segment. New, enlarged, front seat side SRS Torso Abdomen Pelvis (TAP) airbags are 30% bigger than previous designs, and curtain airbags run the full length of the interior. Of the two dual-stage Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) front airbags, the passenger airbag is of a twinchamber design making its world debut in the new Lexus.

Lexus IS 250

The SRS twin chamber airbag features an advanced shape based on the Lexus Omni-Support concept. Once inflated, the twin chambers create a depression in the centre of the airbag, effectively cradling areas of the face such as the nose and mouth, whilst allowing the physical impact of the bag to be dispersed across numerous other, head and shoulder, body contact points.

Increased Visibility

Visibility plays a major role in the Lexus safety portfolio. The available High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps with Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS) helps to illuminate a curve as the driver steers into it. The rear back-up camera, included with the optional navigation system, automatically projects an image of what its lens can detect behind the car onto the navigation screen when the transmission is in reverse gear.

The optional Intuitive Park Assist (IPA) system uses ultrasonic sensors to detect objects close to the car’s front and rear bumpers, alerting the driver and showing distance to objects in the multi-information display within the speedometer. When any IS model is also equipped with the optional navigation system, information on objects detected is shown in greater detail on that system’s seven-inch touch screen display.
