The Japanese luxury automaker Lexus is planning on unveiling the 2010 LS600h, in both standard and extended wheelbase version at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The luxury hybrid LS600h features a new four bar grille and restyled front bumper with redesigned air intakes and foglamps. The headlamps have a new running light design and are finished in Lexus hybrid blue, giving the car a distinctive appearance befitting its flagship status. The Lexus Hybrid Drive system has been revised to meet Euro V exhaust emissions standards, but with no change to the car’s performance: the combination of the 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine and 165kW electric motor produces a maximum 439bhp and 520Nm of torque, giving nought to 62mph acceleration in 6.3 seconds. Press release after the jump. Press release The 2010 Lexus LS 600h, the full hybrid Lexus flagship, gains a range of technological and styling improvements for the 2010 model year, changes that have been unveiled for the first time at the Frankfurt motor show. With redesigned seating, updated equipment, a new ECO driving mode and new brakes, the 2010 Lexus LS 600h and the long wheelbase 2010 Lexus LS 600h L achieve advances in comfort and driving dynamics. Lexus Hybrid Drive systemThe full hybrid Lexus Hybrid Drive system that powers the 2010 Lexus LS 600h has a new ECO mode, which modifies the throttle action and performance of the air conditioning system to support fuel-efficient driving. When the outside temperature is 20°C or higher, the air conditioning system automatically selects its air recirculation mode to reduce power consumption. The blower airflow is reduced when set to “high” and operation of the supplementary electrical heating system (the PTcompact heater) is stopped, further cutting the amount of power used. Also, the system will not signal for an increase in engine speed to boost power when the vehicle is at idle. 6.3 seconds. CO2 emissions are 219g/km and combined cycle fuel economy remains 30.4mpg (figures provisional prior to UK homologation). New brakesThe 2010 Lexus LS 600h is newly equipped with larger, 380mm ventilated front disc brakes with six-piston callipers, rotors and pads developed jointly with specialist manufacturer Brembo. The pads are designed for quieter performance with less vibration and give fade-free high-speed stopping power. Exterior stylingThe revised model is distinguished visually by a new four-bar grille and front bumper with redesigned air intakes and foglamps. The headlamps have a new running light design and are finished in Lexus hybrid blue, giving the car a distinctive appearance befitting its flagship status. Interior featuresIn the cabin the instrument binnacle has been revised to include a new full colour, TFT LCD display. A new meter design features a three-ring analogue dial with a central speedometer, a tachometer and coolant temperature gauge to the left, and a fuel gauge and hybrid system indicator to the right. A display New seating featuresBoth front seats are equipped with new, inflator operated active headrests. Activated by a signal from the airbag ECU in the event of a rear impact, the inflator slides a piston into the headrest, unlocking a mechanism that projects the headrest forwards and upwards, reducing the risk of whiplash injury. The horizontal suspension position of the rear seat has been moved forwards 45mm to improve fit around the hips and the shape of the seat surface over the outer edges has been plumped up by around 10mm for better support. New Lexus Navigation SystemIn common with its sister Lexus models, the 2010 Lexus LS 600h is adopting a new hard disc drive (HDD) navigation system with the 40GB capacity, giving Europe-wide coverage with traffic information data capture in each country. Automatic high beam systemThe revised 2010 Lexus LS 600h features a new, automatic high beam system. A camera sensor in the rear view mirror detects oncoming traffic, street lamps and vehicles travelling ahead and automatically switches the headlamp high beam on and off according to driving conditions. 28 comments: Lexus LS 600h Let’s just say that you are going on a cross-country trip, and must choose between a 1989 7-series and a 1989 LS 400, both with 200K miles on the clock. Which one would you trust to get you there? I’d take the Lexus.
Im not trying to sound biased here Uncia, but the BMW 7 series has better 0-60 numbers and provides many of characteristics you named above
As I’ve said many times before, the LS 460L is the greatest all-around car in the world today. It’s the quietest non-electric car ever built, is the smoothest riding car ever built, has the most rear leg-room of any non-specialty car ever built, it is incredibly safe, has such luxury features as heated, cooled and massaging rear seats and the largest nav screen of any sedan, promises its owners unparalleled reliability, and although it may be lacking in sport, its handling is far from mushy with the optional air suspension.
That it is, but 30.4 mpg with 0-60 in 6.3 is not as impressive as the LS 460L’s 27 mpg and 5.4 sec 0-60.
agreed Uncia. Most of the hybrid sedans that are coming out aren’t too much more fuel efficient than the original models or similiar models that have better features and a ton more trunk space, such as the altima hybrid that doesn’t get over 1-2 mph better than a base model hybrid and has the trunk space to fit a set of gold clubs and thats it.
Buy a 460L instead of the hybrid - it’s nearly as fuel-efficent, handles better, has more trunk room, is much faster, is just as quiet and luxurious inside and will last longer for much less money.
