Next week we'll have two major auto shows that most of you likely already know about: one in Los Angeles and one in Tokyo, Japan. There is, however, a smaller show that is coming up in China, and that it the 2013 Guangzhou Motor Show->ke1921. Despite its relatively small size, Lexus has chosen this show to debut the updated Lexus CT 200h.

With just a few days before its official debut, which occurs on November 21st, Lexus ->ke47 has unveiled the first details and a few images of the revised hybrid hatchback.

According to Lexus, the 2014 CT 200h->ke3482 will adopt the signature Lexus spindle grille, newly designed alloy wheels and a revised rear appearance with a "more horizontal structure."

Lexus didn't give up any of the details on its powertrain, but we expect to see the same hybrid system, with the possibility of a few more horsepower and some fuel consumption improvements. This means you can expect to see a 1.8-liter gasoline-powered four-pot with a pair of electric motors that combine to put down 134 horsepower at least.

Updated 11/29/2013: Lexus announced prices for the 2014 CT 200h, which will go on sale in late January or early February 2014. Prices will start from the same $32,050 as the 2013 model, plus processing and handling fee of $910.

Exterior

From the comparison image above, we can see that nice, new spindle grille that gives the CT 200h the same look that the rest of the Lexus lineup is moving toward. We can also see that the get a light redesign.

In the rear image, we get a good look at the revised rims, which are now in a six-twin-spoke pattern, plus the new rear bumper that features a revised lower-center insert, a pair of vents on each end and redesigned reflector beds. We can also see that the bumper flows into the body -- just under the taillights -- in a more upright manner, leading to a flattened top of the bumper. This flattened top section of the bumper is likely what Lexus meant by saying the 2014 CT 200h has a "more horizontal structure."

For the 2014 model year Lexus is also offering a new exterior color, Redline and a new set of five-spoke 17-inch wheel design.

As usual customers can also opt for the F Sport package that will add a new front bumper and grille, newly designed 17-inch 5-twin spoke alloy wheels with two-tone graphite and machine finish, new black contrast roof, new rear spoiler with two large air ducts, and mesh fog lamp inserts and black surround.

Interior

The interior was also updated with a thinner Display Audio and navigation screen, featuring a next-generation multimedia system. Additionally, both the standard six-speaker and premium 10-speaker audio systems received a series of redesigned lines. As standard feature, CT 200h now comes with a leather shift knob and sliding sun visors.

Other updates includes a redesigned steering wheel and new Parchment NuLuxe trim color and perforated Flaxen leather.

Drivetrain

Under the hood, the CT 200h retains the usual 1.8-liter, in-line four-cylinder gas engine combined with a 650-volt motor/generator for a combined output of 134 horsepower. The powertrain is mated to an Electronically Controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (E-CVT) that ensures impressive fuel economy figures and the best driving pleasure offered by a hybrid car.

Prices

The 2014 Lexus CT 200h will be priced from $32,050, not including the delivery, processing and handling fee of $910.

Competitors

2015 Audi A3 Sportback e-tron

Though it is still a good while from its launch, the closest competition that the CT 200h will endure will come from Audi's upcoming A3 e-tron. The e-tron will carry a 1.4-liter gasoline engine with 150 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque combined with a 75 kW electric motor that bumps its output to an outstanding 204 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.

The A3 e-tron will be significantly faster than the CT 200h, with a 7.6-second run to 100 km/h (62 mph) and a 138 mph top speed. It also travels 31 miles on electric only.

Conclusion

While the CT 200h may not have received an impressive list of updates, but the ones it received ensure a fresh look for the new year. Additionally, its new front fascia allows it to mingle on Lexus dealerships without standing out.
