limousine

While some limousines are owned by wealthy individuals, many are owned by governments to transport senior politicians, by large companies to transport executives, or by broadcasters to transport guests. Most limousines, however, operate as livery vehicles, providing upmarket competition to taxicabs. The word limousine is derived from the name of the French region Limousin, where the inhabitants wore a hood perceived to be similar to the profile of the car.

As no surprise, more than 9 of 10 all-new XTS models are sold to individual luxury buyers. Now, Cadillac is further increasing the luxury level offered by the XTS limousine with the addition of a new W20 Livery Package offered exclusively to livery companies through Caddy ’s Professional Vehicles program.

The new W20 Livery Package is built on the range-topping XTS Platinum and will add 19-inch wheels plus LED-infused door handles. The car’s safety will be further increased with the addition of a new rear-vision camera, while the interior adds a micro-fiber suede headliner.

The package can be further updated with a new rear-seat comfort package that adds heated front and rear seats, window sun shades and a power inverter to charge mobile devices. Cadillac’s new CUE system for connectivity and control will also be available with the new W20 Package.

Thanks to Cadillac’s new Professional Vehicles program, companies can further customize their vehicle fleets according to a specific set of standards required by their own activities.

The 2014 Audi A8 L has been the object of affection for a lot of people, including myself who may or may not have a desktop wallpaper of the German luxury car on his laptop computer.

So, when Audi announced that the A8 L TDI is set to be brought to U.S. shores, you had at least one happy camper that’s already trying to fill up his piggy bank.

In all seriousness, this is great for everyone who has been clamoring for the super-luxurious German limousine to find its way in the Land of the Free. Take out the fact that the Audi A8 Audi A8 L TDI looks like an outright stunner that takes advantage of all the beautiful styling cues that Audi has come to be known for in the past years. Audi’s Premium Package also comes as a standard for the A8 L TDI, which means that you’ll receive Audi side assist and pre-sense rear, 22-way multi-contour comfort seats, front seat ventilation with massage capabilities, and full LED headlights. Sign us up, please!

But what we really like about the A8 L TDI is its 3.0-liter TDI engine that delivers 240 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, allowing the car to hit 60 mph in just 6.4 seconds. Sure, there could have been more power added to the engine, but given the kind of market the A8 L is supposed to take aim at, 240 ponies is mighty plenty for us, especially when the returns equate to an EPA estimated 24 mpg city / 36 mpg highway/ 28 mpg combined.

The 2014 Audi A8 L TDI will retail for $82,500 when it hits dealerships in the spring. That’s significantly cheaper than the $93,000 price tag attached to the Mercedes S350 BlueTEC . We like the S350 BlueTEC, but when given a choice, we’re not hesitating picking the A8 L TDI on this round.

We’ll update this review as more information on the U.S.-spec A8 L TDI is release.

BMW 760i and 760Li

Thanks to the downsizing trend that many top brands have been following lately, we might have to say goodbye to the top-of-the-line V-12 engine in BMW’s lineup. As of yet, BMW hasn’t given the green light to its inclusion in the next-generation 7-Series .

The V-12 engine has always been the pièce de résistance for the flagship BMW. Other than the plethora of creature comforts and gadgets that would make your kids happy, the V-12 engine gave the 7-Series immense power — 544 horses of it — that would make your gearhead friends happy as well. M-Series cars aside, this engine made the BMW 760Li the most powerful and costliest Bimmer ever made. It was more like buying the cheaper, German cousin of the Rolls Royce Ghost.

If it is axed, BMW may replace the hole left by the V-12 with a tuned version of the twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 engine from the M5 . BMW claims the difference between the two is size of the hole burnt in your pocket when it comes to gas consumption.

For people who are planning to buy the flagship limo just for the V-12 engine – likely only a handful of people – don’t lose hope yet, as the consideration of this engine is still under review. However, with the downsizing trend picking up pace and popularity, this move seems inevitable.

Rolls Royce Ghost

The 2013 Rolls Royce Ghost will embrace very subtle revisions to the interior upholstery and the infotainment system of the car. What possibly can they upgrade or facelift? It’s already the perfect car, but it will be seeing similar revisions already found in the Phantom Series 2, apart from the day-time LEDs.

Revisions in the 2013 Ghost were mostly concentrated on the infotainment system of the car. It features an all new, advanced amplifier with the addition of ‘exciter’ speakers. Sounds exciting? The upholstery now comes with natural grain leather and cross-banded wood veneers. If this is an option they are introducing now, what was the type of leather they were using? Printed leather? Certainly that wouldn’t go along with Rolls Royce’s reputation of building hand-made cars out of exclusive materials.

On the outside, a new alloy wheel option will be available for customers who aren’t satisfied with the current options along with an all new, cool feature called the Comfort Access Boot. This feature lets you open the boot using your feet with the help of a sensor under the rear bumper, should both hands be full. It’s a neat feature that doesn’t require the hassle of taking the key out of the pocket while juggling shopping bags, but in a Rolls Royce?

Though it cannot be considered an incremental upgrade at all, except the cool boot feature, the 2013 Rolls Royce Ghost is, nevertheless, a car that sticks true to the Rolls Royce tradition of absolute perfection, immaculate ride, and supreme refinement. What is your take on the 2013 Rolls Royce Ghost? Let us know in the comments section.

Hyundai is coming to the upcoming Moscow International Automobile Salon with a very cool armored version of the Equus sedan. The new limo was developed in cooperation with Stoof International GmbH in Germany and incorporates an elaborate range of upgraded features specially designed for exclusive stretched limousine with ballistic and blast protection.

The new Hyundai Equus Limousine Security measures 5.46 meters in
length and weighs a total of 8465 lbs. The model is equipped with an armored shell designed to fully protect the interior from ballistic penetration from any angle. Hyundai and Stoof paid special attention to those critical areas where the glass is connected to the body components. These areas were designed with special "labyrinth" overlaps protecting the passengers inside from blast projectiles and splinters. The Equus fully complies with VR7 protection level and is ballistically certified to the protection level.

Under the hood, Hyundai has placed a powerful 5.0-liter Tau V8 engine that delivers an impressive 430 HP, allowing the car to deliver impressive dynamics and agility.

Lincoln MKT

Regardless of how odd it may look to have a bulky crossover SUV, like the MKT , replacing the equally bulky, yet outdated, Town Car sedan in Lincoln’s lineup, you can’t resist saying that it just might work. It’s equally luxurious as the Town Car and far larger, allowing passengers to stretch out a little more. One complaint about the Town Car that has somewhat carried over to the MKT is the cost to fuel it.

The last Town Car got a wallet-draining 16 mpg city and 24 mpg highway and the MKT was not much better at 16 to 17 mpg city and 23 to 25 mpg highway, depending on options. Well, for fleets later on in the 2013 model year, Lincoln is addressing this concern by offering a 4-cylinder engine – that’s right, a 4-cylinder Lincoln...

This variant will not be made available directly to the public, as it will be a fleet-only model. It will boast a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine that pumps out 235 ponies and 260 pound-feet of torque. That’s a 65-horsepower drop from the now-standard V-6 engine, but only a 15 pound-feet decrease in torque. Where the EcoBoost engine comes into play is the fact that it gets 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, that’s a 3 to 4 and 3 to 5 mpg increase, respectively.

It achieves these increases by not only offering two fewer cylinders to fuel, but also that it is only available in front-wheel drive. The lack of an AWD variant may seem like an issue to many non-fleet, but look at any fleet of Town Cars and you’ll find out that they are all rear-wheel drive, so that’s not a concern to fleet owners.

The Lincoln MKT Town Car Fleet is expected to debut later in 2012 and will come in at a base price of $49,845. There are no details on whether the options list is thinned out from the current MKT, but we assume it will all remain the same..

We’ll update you with more info as it becomes available.

Mitsubishi has been out of the luxury sedan market for what seems like ages, but in reality it’s just about a decade. Thanks to the Japanese automaker’s relationship with Nissan , Mitsu is diving back into the luxury sedan market, as it will use the Infiniti M35hL LWB to make a luxury sedan of its own.

According to reports, the exterior of the Mitsubishi variant of the M35hL LWB will remain very similar to the Infiniti model it is based upon. The key differences between the Infiniti model and the Mitsubishi model will be the elimination of the Infiniti waterfall grille, swapping out the front bumper for a slightly revised one and replacing the Infiniti badges for Mitsubishi ones, of course.

Being based on the M35hL LWB, this new Mitsubishi Dignity will boast the same hybrid 3.5-liter V-6 drivetrain that the Infiniti has, which boasts an impressive 359 horsepower, but a slightly disappointing 199 pound-feet of torque. The base price tag of ¥8,400,000 ($105,500) is also quite the deterrent, but 30-plus mpg on the highway is definitely a draw.

In addition, if you are in the U.S. and want to snag up this upcoming model, you can pretty much forget about it. Mitsubishi Mitsubishi is only offering this model in Japan. We would suspect that if this model performs well in the Japanese market, Mitsubishi would certainly release it in the U.S.

For now, the details on the Dignity are still a little scarce, so this is all we have to pass on for now. As more information becomes available we will pass it on.

The famous Goodwood Festival of Speed started today and a very cool Ghost Extended Wheelbase will be used as the Race Director’s car for this year’s show. Next to it, a second Rolls-Royce press car, a Phantom Saloon Series II in beautiful blue velvet sparkle, will also take to the hill.

The Pace Car is finished in a very cool midnight sapphire combined with a silver satin bonnet. As usual the interior is hand-built and features sumptuous hand stitched leathers in creme light and navy blue.

The car is powered by a V12 direct-injection engine mated to an eight speed automatic transmission. To an impressive 563 HP, the Pace Car Ghost is ready to take the hill from 0 to 60 mph in just 5 seconds. Only when needed of course.

The model also comes with double-wishbone front suspension, a multi-link rear suspension and an intelligent, four cornered air-suspension system and electronic variable damping.
