Lincoln unveiled today at the New York Auto Show, the 2011 MKZ Hybrid. This is the company’s first ever hybrid vehicle, but a logical step if you consider both the Ford Fusion and the Mercury Milan are also available with hybrid drivetrains. The 2011 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid uses Ford’s second-generation hybrid technology – the 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle I-4 hybrid engine, a system that combines gasoline engine and electric battery-driven motors and delivers a total of 191 hp. In pure electric mode, the Lincoln MKZ Hybrid can drive with a top speed of up to 47 mph. Compared to its main competitor, the 2010 Lexus HS 250h, the Lincoln hybrid tops their fuel efficiency by 6mpg with 41mpg in the city. Also, a trump card that can be played against the 2010 Lexus HS 250h is Lincoln’s extra space allowing for one more passenger, segment-exclusive safety features, and more standard luxury. The Lincoln luxury hybrid sedan will be offered with: SmartGauge with EcoGuide, Lincoln SYNC, 10-Way Power Passenger Seat, Genuine Wood Trim, Reverse Sensing System, Keyless Entry Keypad, Personal Safety System, Acoustic Laminated Windshield and standard Bridge of Weir leather seats. These items will either not be offered with the Lexus or will come with an additional price tag. Updated 07/22/2010: Lincoln today announced prices for the 2011 MKZ Hybrid that will go on sale this fall. Prices will start at $35,180, a price identical to the 2011 Lincoln MKZ gas model and below the 2010 Lexus HS 250h, the MKZ Hybrid’s nearest competitor. Press release after the jump. Press release Lincoln today introduces its first hybrid – the new 2011 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid – a premium midsize car poised to be the most fuel-efficient luxury sedan in America. Lincoln’s first-ever hybrid is expected to deliver at least 41 miles per gallon in the city when it goes on sale this fall. "Today’s luxury customers do not want to make sacrifices. Lincoln has found a way to deliver a luxury sedan with the comforts they expect, the technology they want and the environmental responsibility society demands," said Derrick Kuzak, Ford’s group vice president, Global Product Development. More standard luxuryThe 2011 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid comes standard with features and technologies that are either not offered on the Lexus HS 250h or are available only at an extra cost. They include:
The Lincoln MKZ Hybrid also includes standard Bridge of Weir leather seats. The world-renowned luxury leather from Scotland is unembossed, allowing the natural beauty and character of the grain to shine through. The leather is milled for up to 12 hours to ensure a soft hand, and Bridge of Weir uses a chromium-free tanning process, which makes it easier to recycle. 16 comments: Lincoln MKZ Hybrid Beware of Lincoln and Ford hybrid cars! They do not have as much experience with hybrid cars as Honda and Toyota so they will likely have more problems and end up in more expensive repair costs. It’s their first year of making the hybrid cars while Toyota and Honda already made them for 10 years! For example, 2007 toyota camry hybrid is already toyota’s seventh year of working on the hybrid system while 2010 ford fusion is ford’s first year of working on hybrid system. So, ford fusion hybrid will end up more expensive repair costs than toyota camry hybrid. I know it will happen. In other words, I was surprised that Ford fusion hybrid has slightly more fuel efficient than Toyota camry hybrid but ford has more expensive service to be defeated by it.
What I don’t understand is WHY NOT DESIGN THE LINCOLN FIRST and then scale it down to Fords. It would make the Lincolns look more than Ford Fusions with some chrome on it and the Fords will look higher class, win win. But at least Lincoln gets the good engines.
Though I’m sure this had more to do with competing with Lexus than anything else. Maybe Lincoln will start to gain some momentum with this.
simple and elegant, also it’s interiors and seats looks quite comfortable. Good thing that it was a hybrid because MKZ was also rated as one of the gas drinker car.
Luxurious. Well, even though cars like this are only for those rich and somewhat famous, who I really think wouldn’t have any problems with gas money, it is still great news to know that there are a lot of good options for greener cars nowadays. We really need to cut on carbon emission.
