The Lincoln MKC->ke4599 is a compact->ke140 crossover->ke288 that was launched at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto->ke211 show and went on sale in June of 2014. Considering Lincoln->ke48 is essentially Ford->ke31’s premium brand, it should be no surprise that the MKC shares a platform with the Ford Escape->ke233 and features styling cues that were derived from the second-gen Lincoln MKZ->ke456 sedan->ke142. On the outside, it has powerful body lines that give it a sporty and elegant look, full-width taillights, signature split-wing grille, and a fixed panoramic roof that runs the entire length of the vehicle. Inside, you’ll find comfortable leather, a simple center stack, architectural center console, and lots of chrome trim outlining elements of the dash, door panels, and seats. At the time of its debut, the MKC offered a 2.0-liter, Ecoboost, Four-cylinder with 240 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque as standard equipment, with a 2.3-liter with 285 horsepower and 205 pound-feet available as an option.

As Lincoln's newest entry-level crossover, the MKC is a pretty strong proposition to compete against models like the Buick Encore->ke4147 and the BMW X1->ke2474. It’s sleek, stylish and it had the latest Lincoln design language at the time. Despite being nothing more than a Ford Escape with a different face, the MKC performed relatively well for what it is, selling 13,077 models between the time it launched and the end of 2014. Pros
Cons

Exterior

On the exterior, the new MKC concept boasts the latest Lincoln Design DNA, which was first unveiled on the MKZ sedan. The concept is defined by simple, yet powerful and aggressive design lines, which not only makes it look sporty and powerful, but also elegant and sleek.

The most impressive features of the concept are those full-width taillights that reveal a liftgate design with a side-view cutline – a Lincoln first. Other significant design elements are the frameless windows, the signature split-wing grille and, of course, the fixed panoramic roof that runs the length of the vehicle.

The new MKC Concept features a cream-based white metallic tri-coat exterior color and the SUV sits on a set of 20-inch premium wheels.

Interior

The elegance of the exterior is combined with a high-end bespoke design, materials and execution. The MKC offers room for four passengers and will once again feature elements we have already seen in the MKZ.

These elements include a distinct push-button gear shift selector, and a flowing, expressive and architectural center console. The concept comes with unique colors and materials, like premium leather that has been used for the front and rear seats. A Lincoln Star logo has been placed on the seats and the floor mats as well.

The steering wheel, upper instrument panel and door panels are infused with a metallic flake, while the door trim uppers, armrests, bolsters, console side rails, instrument panel and cargo area have been wrapped in smooth leather.

Engine

Lincoln hasn't revealed any details on the powertrain, but we expect to learn that during the car's official debut in Detroit.

Prices

The new Lincoln MKC will be put on sale in late 2014. Prices will be announced at a later date.

Competition

The production version of the Lincoln MKC concept, if it ever gets produced, will target models from the small luxury utility segment: Buick Encore->ke4147 and BMW X1->ke2474. In the U.S. market, the 2013 Encore comes with a new Ecotec 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers a total of 140 horsepower and a peak torque of 148 pound-feet, and we expect a similar output from a production version MKC. The BMW X1 is offered with a choice of three engines, with the most powerful one delivering up to 300 horsepower.
