2011 Lotus Evora Police Car
 
Time and again, we’ve all been thrust into the same unflattering scenario of driving over the speed limit on a highway without a care in the world - at least until a police car begins to give chase. That’s where we start quaking in our boots. In some instances, we make a break for it, hoping that our trusty steed can outrun the galloping highway patrol car as it tries to keep pace. Unfortunately for the residents of the West Midlands in the UK, trying to outrun the new highway patrol car just became a more difficult task. As a donation by Lotus and presented at the Autosport International Motor Show, the UK police force will be getting a Lotus Evora police car to facilitate the chase.. Oh yes, dear criminals. A 280 horsepower sports car will be stuck in your rear view mirrors until you cry ‘uncle!’ and pull over on the shoulder of the highway. The Evora police car will be given a two-week trial run on a stretch along the West Midlands highway that covers 450 miles, together with a number of major routes, including the M5, M6, and M2 motorways. So the next time you find yourselves in these areas, you might want to keep watch of the speed limit because you know never know when the Evora police car will jump out of the bushes and give you chase. At the 2010 Paris Auto Show, Lotus impressed the entire world with a totally revised line-up with a few debuts in the next few years. However, before we actually get a chance to see the second generation Evora launched on the market, the company has announced that a revised version will be launched in 2012. This just so happens to be the year Lotus plans on revealing a convertible version. While there will be no major changes made to the exterior, the interior will get a completely redesigned cabin and a new version to go along with the newest S trim level. The cabin will be designed by German firm, CSI, who have also engineered cabins for the Audi R8, Mercedes SLS, and Porsche Panamera. Lotus’ Paris Motor Show explosion back in September gave way to the announcement of some big changes to their lineup occurring sometime in the near future. Well, this may very well be the near future since, according to British magazine, AutoCar, Lotus CEO Dany Bahar has announced there will be a new Exige revealed later this year at the Geneva Motor Show. And that’s not all, Bahar also announced that the Evora will get a refresh and will be launched in 2012. The new Evora will get a completely redesigned cabin and a new version to go along with the newest S trim level. So, if we have this right, we should be getting a new Evora in 2012, new Esprit and Elan models in 2013, the Elite in 2014, and the Elise and Eterne in 2015.  That’s it; we’re halfway through the first season of Top Gear USA and the guys seem to be coming along quite nicely in their efforts to become a real car show. Video: FIA GT4 Lotus race cars hangs out at the Nurburgring
There aren’t a lot of things we enjoy more than a race car being introduced to the Nurburgring. Whether it’s a Formula One racer or even a pair of Lotus 2-Elevens and an Evora racing in the FIA GT4 Championship, the mere sight – and sound, don’t forget that – of a high-action race car blasting along one of the world’s most fabled circuits is enough to raise those little goose bumps all over our body. Fortunately, PistonClash Productions seem to share our fascination and they were cool enough to share these videos of Lotus racers getting a first-hand look at what the Nurburgring is all about. Add a few elements of rain, the shrill sound of race exhaust, and some commentary from the drivers, and you have the perfect recipe on how to spend the next 15 minutes of your life without regretting it afterward. Lotus Evora Cup/GT4 will make its race debut this weekend
We’ve been hearing a lot about Lotus lately as the Evora S and the Evora IPS were announced as Lotus features at the Paris Motor Show at the end of September. We’re going to keep the ball rolling with the British manufacturer as they have just announced that the racing version of the Evora sports car will be making its racing debut this weekend at the European GT4 Championships. Behind the wheel of the sports car will be Lotus rookie driver, Ollie Hancock. The Lotus Evora Cup is powered by a 4.0 Liter V8 making 360 PS and weighs just 1190 kg, nearly 200 kg less than the road going Evora. It will enter the race carrying the Lotus Type Number 124 and will be painted in a Lotus Motorsport Green with a yellow twin-stripe running down the center. Next to the Evora Cup, Lotus will also be bringing four ultra lightweight Lotus 2-Eleven GT4 race cars to the event. Two of these sports cars will be decked out in the Lotus Motorsport livery with members of NFS Racing Dubai. Remember that "accidental email" we received earlier this month that announced the Lotus models that would be showing up at the Paris Auto Show? Well, we know one of those models is the Evora S since that was simply stated in the communication, but the second model was just titled the Lotus Auto and didn’t have many details to describe this mysterious vehicle. Now we hear that this second model is the Lotus IPS (Intelligent Precision Shift). The IPS version of the Evora gives the driver the option of being able to switch from manual paddle shift to automatic drive modes. There is also a Sport mode for that extra oomph and control for the driver. The Lotus IPS combines an automatic 6-speed gearbox with a Lotus developed transmission control with a 3.5L V6 engine. This combination allows the vehicle to produce 276hp at 6400rpm and 258 lb ft of torque at 4700rpm. The 0-60mph sprint is made in 5.3 seconds and its top speed is limited to 155 mph. "The Evora IPS is set to broaden the appeal of the Evora and reach out to a slightly different market. We hope it will be popular with established automatic locations such as Asia, the Middle East and the US. It’s been a long time since Lotus created an automatic and we’ve spent a great deal of time refining this one to make sure that it perfectly complements the Evora drive experience." Lotus unveiled today the official details on the hottest version of the Evora sports car. The new S version is set to make its world debut at the Paris Motor Show, next to the new Esprit. The Evora S comes with a sport pack as standard featuring a ‘sport’ button which allows the driver to control throttle response and activate the exhaust by-pass valve. The sport button also raises the instantaneous rev limit and changes the dynamic stability control settings resulting in a total experience change. There are cross-drilled brakes for improved cooling. The Evora S will be powered by a supercharged Toyota-sourced 3.5-liter V6 engine that will deliver a total of 350bhp and more than 300lb ft of torque. This means a sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 5.0 seconds and a top speed in excess of 172mph. However, it will be pretty hard to identify the Evora S, as it will only get a larger rear diffuser. When most people think of Pebble Beach they think of hitting a little while ball with a club next to the most beautiful scenery in the United States. We don’t think of those sort of things though. We think of the automotive festivities that take place on the coast. This year, we had many cars that were shown. There were new cars like the new Ford Mustang Boss 302, and there were old cars like the Ferrari F40 birthday collection. In total, 2010 was a spectacular year at the beach for petrol heads. With all the new car introductions and high-end auctions, automotive lovers of any age will love the extravaganza that was the Pebble Beach Week in California. The new Evora is a work of art, and apparently we’re not the only ones who think so. According to Autocar, Lotus has had a few inquiries from companies wanting to use the Evora platform. When Autocar spoke with European operation boss Mark James, he made it clear that Lotus doesn’t go shopping for third party buyers, but they are always willing to listen. This wouldn’t be the first time that Lotus sold their chassis to other automakers. The old Elise was used for the Opel Speedster/Vauxhall VX220. It was also used on the Tesla Roadster. The Evora chassis is nearly the same – only 275mm longer - as the one found under the Elise, except for one major difference. The Evora was built with a V6 in mind, so that could give automakers the chance to create larger and more powerful engines.
