2014 Lotus Esprit


The legend is back! Lotus has unveiled today the new Esprit sports car. Described as the "ultimate Lotus," the new Esprit will go into production at the end of 2012, with first deliveries beginning in late 2013, early 2014. Lotus announced an estimated price of £110,000 ($175,000 at the current rates).

At the unveiling of the Evora S model in San Jose in June 2011, Lotus Cars USA PR boss, Kevin Smith, confirmed that the Esprit supercar would be getting Lotus’ in-house V8 engine and both a manual and a dual-clutch transmission. This V8 engine was originally said to deliver between 550 - 570 HP, but actually achieved 570 HP at around 9000rpm and 398 lb-ft of torque at a bit higher than 3000rpm. Lotus Chief Technical Officer, Wolf Zimmermann, says this engine can reach up to 630 HP at 9,400 rpm and 424 lb-ft of torque between 5,500 and 6,000rpm. The V8 weighs in at about 375 lbs, which is about 176 lbs lighter than the original 5.0L V8 Lotus was going to borrow from Lexus. It will be used for both the Esprit and, as confirmed by Smith, an even more exotic Elite .

UPDATE 11/21/2011: Lotus officials has confirmed that the next generation Esprit will be powered by a 4.8 liter V8 engine. This new engine will deliver a total of 570 HP in standard version, but the company will be also offering a higher-tuned variant with an output of 620 HP. (Autoblog)

UPDATE 12/12/2011:New details about the future supercar revealed that the Esprit will, in fact, be offered in two versions. A base model will combine a 100 HP electric motor to a normally aspirated V8 engine and a more powerful version will drop the hybrid system and focus on weight-saving measures. (AutoCar)

UPDATE 10/04/2012: According to Lotus Forums, the Esprit has officially been axed. leaving the Elise, Exige, and Evora as the only standing models on the company’s new era lineup.

Yeah, I would also agree with that one. I really thing that they should use the design element of the Elan more. Know what, I still believe that it was actually a bvad idea that they dropped the car.

@Trey Brown Lets hope so. Coz Elan is just simply a perfect match to my definition of perfect car....

@kaideathman no need to worry, I think they would still be incorporating the cues from the Elan into the other models in their line . Though I would agree that it would be better if they had continued the project.

Well, i guess its just the right decision to dropped the Elan since its just the identical with the Evora. At least Lotus have never waste their time and effort on that model. BTW, I still want to see the details of the Elan on their future production.

I thought this was a super car because of its looks. But for me, Lotus did a good layout on this one. This simply looks rough and amazing.

Too bad Elan is being dropped...I would rather sacrifice a little perfomance to get another two seaters....Elan seems perfect to me....

Now I understand why the guys at Lotus decided to drop the Elan model. Aside from looking too much like the Evora, that one also has a bit of the looks of this baby. Good thing they really decided that.

Hmm, this one is really getting better every minute, just as expected. It is really a good news that they are continuing the development of the Elan.

hmm. Its front hood especially those rear lip reminds me of Lamborghini car thoug the wheels look so cheap! Anyhow, the figure performance of this car is quite impressive. I wonder on how will it perform in the race track.

Oh! So the production of this legendary car is active once again. I thought they will be focusing on the Evora? Well, I like the look of the newer version of this car and I think its cooler than the Evora. However, its rooftop reminds me of electric cars.

it seems that this current model is a modified version. The headlights actually makes this car look much better than the actual concept.

The Lamborghini Gallardo, Audi R8 5.2 FSI, Ferrari 458 Italia and McLaren MP4-12C are all pretty much the same thing as this Lotus.

Then we’re supposed to see the Elite, a convertible grand-touring exotic. In 2014 the new Elise will debut with 300-hp, followed by the Eterne 4-door.

Blue, it’s probably time for you to finally cut way back with the Budweisers, put down the remote controls and crawl out of your mama’s basement and get a life in the real world.

The figures for costs are incorrect for the new Esprit….if the esprit will be priced at 110,000 pounds in britain that will equate to around $350,000 in Oz…at least.

Another stunner from lotus, however I don’t think they’ve pushed the styling far enough with this one. Hard to tell the difference from the Elan unless you look really close. Being the mack daddy of the lotus group it should be instantly distinguishable from the cheaper models. Shame it didn’t come with the LFA v10 as rumored.

another great looking car from Lotus. it bet this baby is lighter than expected lotus is well known for its body weight, actually the lotus’s engine is not that great as any other super car around. its just the body is lighter with this the lotus car accelerate and run faster than others.

A smaller version of a 458 Italia...nice

This is not a Lotus. Lotus is dead. Making larger, heavier cars is not Lotus.
