luxury cars

Luxury cars are expensive and come in all shapes: sedan, coupe or convertible. They offer all the comfort, luxury and performance but you will have to pay premium price. German cars like BMW or Mercedes are the first brand that come to our mind but nowadays nearly all car makers offer nice and comfortable models that enter in the luxury car category.

Mercedes S-Class Coupe

Its been a while since we last saw the Mercedes S-Class Coupe out for a testing session, but once the snow started falling in Europe, the company wanted to see how the car behaves in these conditions. Our spy photographers managed to shoot the next S-Class Coupe somewhere in Northern Sweden and as you can see, the prototype wears lighter camouflage than ever before.

The S-Class Coupe will be offered with a more aggressive design language than the S-Class sedan , but the engine lineup should be identical.

The coupe version will be offered with a 3.0-liter, V-6 engine in the base version and with a twin-turbocharged, 4.7-liter, V-8 powerplant in the more powerful S500 version. Mercedes is also developing an AMG version , which will be powered by a 5.5-liter, V-8 biturbo engine with an output of 577 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque.

The S-Class Coupe will be unveiled next year at the Geneva Motor Show .

Mercedes unveiled a revision for the GLK at the 2012 New Your Auto Show , but it looks like some tuners though they could do a little better.

Today, Carlsson did just that with the announcement of a sleek kit for the GLK that includes upgrades for the exterior and interior, plus some engine upgrades. Unfortunately, the engine upgrades are limited to just the GLK 220 CDI.

This version receives a C-Tronic module that increases the power output of the 2.1-liter diesel engine from the stock 168 horsepower to a slightly wilder 204 ponies and the peak torque from 295 pound-feet to an impressive 368 pound-feet.

As for the GLK300 and GLK350 models, Carlsson has yet to develop a performance upgrade for them. For now, the tuner offers uprated springs and dampers that will lower the SUV ’s ride by about 1.18 inches and will significantly improve the SUV’s handling on winding roads.

On top of these performance and handling upgrades, Carlsson also offers a selection of aesthetic modifications.

Porsche Macan

Porsche just unveiled the new Macan , which is essentially a smaller version of the Cayenne SUV, and reports already suggest a few updates are in the works for 2014. Currently the Macan is offered only with V-6 engines, but now it looks like the lineup will also carry a new, four-cylinder engine.

AutoExpress, which spoke to Dr Thomas Casper, manager of transmission and drivetrain development at Porsche, reports that we should expect a turbocharged, 2.0-liter, horizontally opposed, four-cylinder engine with a horsepower rating that will position it under the current 3.0-liter, V-6 engine, which delivers 340 horsepower.

More precisely, we are likely looking at something under the 300-horsepower mark. With two fewer cylinder sucking down fuel, on should expect a considerable jump in fuel economy. We also expect to see this engine find its way into the Boxster and Cayman — that likely won’t happen until a few months after the Macan.

We expect the four-cylinder Macan to check in at around the £40k area in Europe — about $65k at the current exchange rates.

With all of the teasers we’ve been seeing the past few days, it’s easy to drown in all of the intrigue and suspense.

But this particular teaser really caught our attention, in part because we’ve heard next to nothing about the company that sent it out.

We checked Godsil Motorcars’ website and didn’t see a whole lot to give us any reason to believe that its been around for a while. But here they are, promising to build a line of "super luxury cars " that it will "bring glory back to the automobile – one Manhattan at a time."

That in itself is about an apt description as you can have for this mysterious model. It’s called the Manhattan and its going to be powered by a V-16 engine that will run on compressed natural gas , enough to make the industry stand up and take notice. But Godsil isn’t making any apologies, in part because it wants to make a statement. And what better way to do it than to drop a massive 16 on the engine block and let all those horses do the talking.

As far as the car itself is concerned, the teaser does give us hints that it will be a two-seat coupe with a sloping roofline, a long hood, and muscular wheel arches. We’re tempted to say that there’s a retro-feel to it, but until we see more of its dimensions, we’re holding off on that assumption.

What we can tell you though is that Godsil definitely has our attention. Then again, that’s par for the course for any company promising a V-16 engine on a car that definitely looks like it can back up all the hype.

Land Rover Range Rover Sport

In 2013, Land Rover introduced a totally new generation of its flagship Range Rover and Range Rover Sport SUVs. The brand is known to produce some of the finest premium off-road luxury vehicles in the world and it did not come as a surprise to us when the world bestowed it with praise, as has been the case with Land Rovers historically.

Yes, the Range Rover has grown into a mature off-road vehicle and is in league of its own, when it comes to luxury motoring. While, the Range Rover sits at the top of the food chain, its smaller sibling, the Range Rover Sport , has had its fair share of successes. MotorTrend magazine honored the RR Sport with the coveted ’SUV of the Year’ and now Four Wheeler Magazine has awarded the Range Rover Sport with "Four Wheeler of the Year" for 2013.

This is the third time a Land Rover SUV has won this award after intense and grueling testing both on tarmac and on rugged terrain designed to test the off-road capabilities of the vehicle.

"It is a great achievement for the very luxurious and performance oriented Range Rover Sport to be named ’Four Wheeler of the Year,’ by the country’s oldest four-wheel drive enthusiast publication," said Kim McCullough, Brand Vice President, Land Rover North America.

Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake

Last week, the upcoming Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake was, once again, caught testing on public roads in Stuttgart, Germany. Now, Mercedes has taken it for another testing session, but this time on the roads of Arjeplog in Northern Sweden, for a little winter testing.

It’s no surprise to see the Mercedes CLA receiving a shooting brake version, considering it is the baby-brother of the CLS, which also has a shooting brake version.

As for the CLA Shooting Brake, it will feature a design language similar to the sedan, with except of that sweet shooting brake tail, which looks identical to the CLS Shooting Brake ’s tail.

Under its hood, the upcoming CLA Shooting Brake will feature the same engine lineup as the sedan, including a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine offered in two output levels — 121 horsepower and 154 horsepower — and an AMG version with a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder unit that delivers 330 horsepower.

Audi Q7

Its been a while since we last caught the next-generation Audi Q7 out testing, but today we had the chance to see it out again, and it looks like Audi’s been pretty busy.

The prototype caught testing today seems to wear the final body kit and it also dropped that nasty black cover seen on the last model in favor of a new one that allows us to see the lines of the new Q7 .

Previous rumors suggested that for the new Q7, Audi will use lots of aluminum and other weight-saving materials that will help drop about 400 kg (about 880 pounds) from the total weight of the current eneration.

The new Audi Q7 will be built on a new platform that it will share with the upcoming Volkswagen Touareg , Porsche Cayenne and the upcoming Bentley SUV . Under the hood, it will offer both gasoline and diesel engines, with a hybrid powertrain also being a possibility.

Expect the new Audi Q7 to arrive in late 2014 as a 2015 model.

We have known for quite some time that Bimmer’s naming system is slowly morphing to cover nearly every number from 1 through 10. It began with the 1 Series and 2 Series, and now moved into the 4 Series.

Here’s the low down on all of that. The 1 Series , once everything is said and done, will only feature sedans. The 1 Series coupe and convertible are now the 2 Series . Finally, the 3 Series now features only sedans, and the 4 Series takes over the midsize coupe and convertible markets to replace the 3 Series coupe and convertible.

Well, now there is a new wrinkle in the whole 4 Series lineup that will likely make your head spin, and that is the 4 Series Gran Coupè. Sure, it has four-doors and many of us automatically figure that is a sedan, but BMW, Mercedes and Audi like to call sleek sedans on sporty platform coupès and who are we to argue with them?

Updated 02/03/2014: BMW released the first details on the new 4 Series Gran Coupe before the car’s world debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show and North American debut at the 2014 New York International Auto Show. On the U.S. market the new 4 Series Gran Coupe will be priced from $41,225 for the 428i version.

Most of you are starting to think about what to buy to your loved ones, while folks in Germany are getting a good look at cool things to buy their cars at the Essen Motor Show . At this show, the major tuners of Germany, and not only, will display their best kits developed over the years, plus a series of new ones specially created for the show.

Like Lorinser did with this upgrade did based on the new Mercedes S-Class . The kit unveiled at the Essen Motor Show was based on the S550 version, but we’re pretty sure all the other variants will get similar treatments.

A base S550 is powered by a 4.6-liter, V-8 engine that delivers a total of 455 horsepower, but Lorinser managed to squeeze another 75 horses from the powerful engine. With a total of 530 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque, the Lorinser S550 will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.8 seconds and up to 155 mph.

If you are not a big soccer fan, then the Andre Wisdom name says pretty much nothing to you; well, don’t worry you are not the only one. Long story short, the 20-year-old Wisdom plays for Derby Country, UK.

He may be top notch at putting a ball past the goal keeper, but his driving skills definitely need a little "refinement."

Last week he found himself in a bit of "trouble" while trying to find his way to Pride Park for his team’s match with Sheffield Wednesday. Apparently, Wisdom stopped at a shop to buy some drinks before the game, and, as he was unfamiliar to the place, he set the coordinates of the Pride Park to his Porsche Panamera ’s navigation system.

The only problem is that instead arriving to Pride Park he ended up on a very muddy road where he got his rather pricey Porsche stuck. Fortunately, he was discovered by a mountain biker six miles from Pride Park and a Jeep Cherokee came to tow the luxury sedan from the deep muck.

Let;s just hope that he is better at playing soccer than realizing he is driving down a road that the Panamera simply is not equipped to handle.
