Given the reputation Suzuki->ke87 has established in the industry, it wouldn't be too out there if you thought that the Japanese automaker was capable of rolling out an impressive-looking concept->ke169.

Yet there it was at the New Delhi Auto Show where Suzuki, together with its partner, Maruti, unveiled the Concept CIAZ sedan->ke142. We don't know what Suzuki has in store for the concept, other than plans to offer its in markets India and China.

But given what we're looking at, we really wouldn't mind seeing the Concept CIAZ, in production guise, make its way to American soil. It's got promise, that much we can give you. But, with Suzuki pulling out of the American market recently, there is little to no chance that this concept or any other Suzuki will hit the U.S. market any time soon.

Performance numbers will be determined in the future, but from what we're seeing, we have to give both Suzuki and Maruti some serious props for designing a sedan that looks and feels more than what it's expected to stand for.

Design

We have to give some due props to Suzuki for the Concept CIAZ. Sure, the company isn't known for being a forward-thinker in its design philosophy, but what it did with this prototype sedan is all sorts of impressive. The dynamic body shape of the concept pops out thanks to some sharp character lines on the sides. In addition, Suzuki's use of chrome detailing on the side body adds that sporty character to the concept while the combination of real carbon and chrome plating on the fog lamps and the exhaust pipe, ratchets up the impressive sporty luxury characteristic of the Concept CIAZ's body.

The front fascia also has some splashes of cool to it, particularly the cleverly-designed headlight setup, which ignites the overall design and blends perfectly with the chrome grilles and the front bumper and those integrated LEDs that go with it.

Competitors

2014 Hyundai Mistra Concept

Should the Suzuki Concept CIAZ make its way to production, expectations are for the car to be sold in huge auto markets like China or India, where it will be pitted against the likes of another midsized, China-focused concept, the Hyundai Mistra.

Like the Concept CIAZ, the The Mistra features a surprisingly sporty look for a four-door, midsized sedan. The hood is long and sloping, and the wide front grille serves as the perfect backdrop to highlight the large Hyundai->ke201 badge plastered right in the middle of it. The front bumper is also reasonably stacked with what looks like high-quality lighting fixtures while the overall shape and length of the car appears to be more than what you can expect from a midsized sedan.

Conclusion

Consider us surprised by what Suzuki did with the Concept CIAZ, not so much because we didn't think Suzuki had in it them, but because they're not content with just letting the prototype fade into obscurity as a one-time show concept. The Japanese company looks like it has serious plans of building the CIAZ Concept so don't put it past you to think that there's no future for this impressive looking concept.
