Maserati has been making headlines with its engine reduction, a sub-Quattroporte, and the Maserati of tomorrow, but the Australian International Auto Show saw the current side of Maserati->ke51 as it unveiled its newest special edition.

The Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT S MC Sportline (yeah, that's a ridiculously long name) is basically the Maserati Quattroporte Sport GTS equipped with the MC Sportline package which was first unveiled for the GranTurismo S model. We haven't heard exactly how many units of this special edition we are going to get, but the GranTurismo S only got 12 so we imagine this special edition will get the same treatment.

The Maserati Quattroporte Sport GTS MC Sport Line replaces all the wood trim in the standard car with carbon fiber. This material can be seen across the dashboard, the front and rear center consoles, sections of the door panels, the gear knob, and around the switchgear. The area around the instrument pack and on the gearchange paddles will also be decked out in the stuff. Each of the door sills is fitted with carbon fiber trim panels embossed with the MC Sport Line logo and the MC logo is stamped into the aluminum brake pedal.

The engine remains unchanged, so we are still working with a 4.7 liter V8 mated to sequential manual auto transmission. The difference here is that the gearbox now has a Sport mode with faster shifting times. The power remains the same at 440 hp with a peak torque of 490 Nm with a top speed of 177mph.

Press release after the jump.

Press release

Maserati has taken the opportunity to show the Quattroporte Sport GT S with the MC Sport Line package at this year Australian International Auto Show, which opened its doors in Sidney on October 15.

The Quattroporte Sport GT S with the added stylistic elements of the MC Sport Line option package is at the peak of sportiness in the Quattroporte range and perfectly embodies the character of Maserati luxury sport sedan.

The MC Sport Line equipment package is developed from the experience of Maserati Corse – Maserati factory-owned racing department – and Maserati winning motorsport programmes, both with the Maserati MC12 – once again this year leading the FIA GT1 World Championship – and the GranTurismo MC in its Trofeo and GT4 versions. The MC Sport Line, first launched on the GranTurismo S with electro-actuated gearbox – is now available across the GranTurismo and Quattroporte ranges.
