Before anyone begins to even dream about owning any of these cars, we feel we have to give fair warning that purchasing any one of them will probably cost a few arms and legs. Of course, for anyone whose bank account has never felt the dryness that most of ours have, then listen up.
Forbes - yeah, we all know them - has released a Top 10 list of the World’s Most Expensive Cars. Think forking over $100,000 on a car is already a financial burden? Well, think again. Not only are these cars fast and powerful, but they command a pretty steep price tag, which is only affordable to those people that have as much money as we have lottery tickets.
Something of note for this list is that there are two cars that have yet to be unveiled, let alone given a price tag. Their respective prices are then assumptions by Forbes and may change the list once the actual prices have been revealed.
Another thing that we noticed is the conspicuous absence of the Aston Martin One-77 , which, at $1.77 million, is easily one of the most expensive cars in the world. Forbes normally covers a lot of holes on their list, but they clearly made one oversight there.
Hopefully the downturn in the economy hasen’t forced you to fire your chauffeur because a back-seat only convertible Maybach 62 Landaulet is now up for sale.
When it was new last fall, the Maybach Landaulet carried a price tag of €900,000 (or $1.35 million at the time). Now this exclusive open-top luxury saloon is for sale on eBay as a used car for $2,200,000. Who knew adding 95 miles to the odometer could make a car gain almost $1 million in value.
So sell a small country or ask daddy for next month’s allowance in advance. Just remember, while you bask in the glow of the January sun, make sure Jeeves doesn’t have too much fun with the Landaulet’s 612 hp V12 engine.
The 2009 Landaulet was first launched as a concept version last year at the Dubai auto show, and earlier this year Maybach announced the production version. The convertiblelike four-door Landaulet will go on sale in USA starting December at a price of $1.35 million!
"The Landaulet is for a superrich individual who wants something that is extremely extraordinary and enjoys being driven in a car with acres of sky above them," Hans-Dieter Multhaupt, vice president of program management for Maybach said.
The Landaulet is designed as a chauffeur-driven limousine. The soft partial convertible top above rear-seat passengers opens from the B-pillar back so passengers in the rear seat can be seen and enjoy the sunshine.
The Maybach’s rear doors and side windows remain intact. The driver’s compartment is covered by a nonremovable hard top. Multhaupt said many of the Maybach Landaulets "will be fitted with a glass panel that separates the driver and the passenger, like the cars of the past."
Maybach revealed today the 2009 Landaulet - the world’s most exclusive open-top luxury saloon. First revealed as a concept in November 2007, the new Landaulet will go on sale in autumn 2008 at a price of EUR 900,000 (or US$ 1.35 million).
The 2009 Landaulet is powered by an uprated V12 engine, developed for the Maybach 57 S and the Maybach 62 S. Thanks to twin turbochargers, the V12 engine develops 612 hp from a displacement of 5980 cc.
The Maybach Landaulet is based on the Maybach 62 S – which can claim to be the world’s most powerful series-produced chauffeured saloon. Maybach technicians have removed the rear roof module in order to afford passengers an unobstructed view of the sky above. The side walls have been invisibly reinforced with an integral tubular steel structure. As these measures have not altered the silhouette of the luxury saloon, the generously dimensioned doors and the complete interior with reclining seats remain unchanged.
