Particularly discerning motoring enthusiasts who wish to drive their Maybach themselves seek a symbiosis of luxurious comfort and sporty handling. The latter is provided by an improved Mercedes-AMG 6.0-litre V12 biturbo engine with 45 kW/62 hp more output than the Maybach 57, as well as a tauter suspension configuration. This combination makes the Maybach 57 S high-end luxury saloon the ideal car for owner-drivers who expect the very latest high-performance technology and the perfection typical of the Maybach brand. With an acceleration from standstill to 100 km/h in only five seconds, the new Maybach 57 S impressively demonstrates its outstanding performance potential.

New twelve-cylinder powerpack with a maximum torque of 1000 Nm

The new, even more powerful twelve-cylinder engine in the Maybach 57 S has a displacement of six litres and an output of 450 kW/612 hp by virtue of a twin turbocharger and a water-type charge-air cooler. The impressive maximum torque of 1000 Nm (electronically limited) is available over a wide engine speed range between 2000 and 4000 rpm. This provides the more sportily inclined Maybach driver with effortless power reserves at all times. Each of these muscular twelve-cylinder units has a newly designed cover and a model plate bearing the signature of the Mercedes-AMG technician who assembled it by hand on the "one man, one engine" principle.

Maybach developers have succeeded in reconciling, to a near-perfect degree, different requirements with the modified, more stiffly configured suspension of the 57 S. While transferring the impressive performance and outstanding dynamic potential safely and effortlessly at all times, it also retains the very high level of comfort for which Maybach luxury saloons are known.

Exterior design accentuates the dynamic potential

Discreet and tasteful exterior features accentuate the decidedly dynamic presence of the new Maybach 57 S. These include a modified front end with a strikingly redesigned radiator and lighting units, attractive 20-inch spoked wheels, discreet "57 S" lettering on the wing beneath the A-pillars and on the boot lid, and single-tone paintwork in the black or silver colour tone reserved for the model 57 S. At the rear a redesigned apron with two new, trapezoidal exhaust tailpipes subtly indicates the high performance potential of the 57 S. Even at a standstill, this dynamic and elegant appearance confirms that the new Maybach meets the wishes of sporty owner-drivers for an exclusive luxury car with a fulminating performance.

Harmony between luxury and dynamism: enhanced interior features

The contemporary Maybach interpretation of high-performance, impressive handling dynamics and sumptuous luxury is also reflected in the interior of the 57 S. The highest quality materials are hand-finished to perfection for an intentionally distinctive and particularly exclusive look, in typical Maybach style.

Particularly in the driver’s direct field of vision and activity, carefully coordinated applications of exquisite piano lacquer and sporty carbon create an atmosphere of dynamic elegance. Newly designed leather upholstery tastefully accentuates this overall impression.

The new, more powerful V12 engine, which Maybach engineers have developed further with specialists at Mercedes-AMG, ensures a fulminating performance and outstanding handling dynamics in the Maybach 57 S high-performance luxury saloon. Thanks to a twin turbocharger and a water-to-air intercooler, the V12 power unit generates a maximum output of 450 kW/612 hp from a displacement of 5980 cubic centimetres. This is continuously on tap between 4800 and 5100 rpm, while the impressive maximum torque of 1000 newton metres is available between 2000 and 4000 rpm. These figures open up a new performance dimension in the Maybach 57 S: acceleration from zero to 100 km/h takes just 5.0 seconds, and the Maybach 57 S requires only 15.8 seconds to sprint from zero to 200 km/h, making it one of the world’s most sporty luxury cars. An intermediate sprint from 80 to 120 km/h, which is decisive for many overtaking manoeuvres, is covered effortlessly in 3.7 seconds. The maximum speed is 275 km/h.

Innovative engine technology

The latest technology and numerous intelligent details developed by Mercedes-AMG specialists are the basis for the outstanding performance of the Maybach 57 S. As an example, the forged pistons are made from a special material which withstands extreme temperatures and pressures, and are kept at the optimal temperature by a sophisticated oil-jet cooling system with a separate nozzle for each of the twelve pistons. A particularly efficient oil pump and a large oil cooler ensure that all lubrication points are reliably supplied with oil, even under the highest loads. The compressor and turbine housings of the two turbochargers, as well as the impellers, are designed for a high charge pressure of up to 1.5 bar.

Special low-temperature intercooler for high performance

The high-performance engine of the Maybach 57 S is also equipped with highly efficient charge-air cooling, which lowers the temperature of the intake air compressed by the turbochargers before it enters the combustion chambers, using the particularly effective principle of the air-to-water heat exchanger. The large surface area of the low-temperature intercooler guarantees effective cooling at all times, even under full load, and therefore provides the driver of the Maybach 57 S with a high output and torque yield in all ambient temperatures and under all operating conditions.

The character of the twelve-cylinder power unit offers the driver of the Maybach 57 S a real experience for the senses: under full acceleration it certainly forces its occupants back into their seats, but always remains well-mannered and refined despite its enormous engine power. Only a discreet snarl from the twin-pipe exhaust system reveals that the high-performance engine is getting down to business, also enabling the driver to derive acoustic enjoyment from the outstanding response to the accelerator.

Mercedes-AMG 'Manufaktur'

In line with the Maybach approach, the twelve-cylinder biturbo engine is hand-assembled in the Mercedes-AMG engine workshops, or 'Manufaktur'. The "One man, one engine" philosophy is reflected by the signature of the technician responsible on the characteristic model plate, which is attached to the engine cover of the V12 biturbo in the Maybach 57 S – a guarantee of the greatest care and superlative quality.

Modified suspension for a safe and dynamic driving experience

To make sure that the impressive performance potential of the 57 S is always safely and smoothly transferred to the road, Maybach engineers have modified the suspension in numerous ways to do justice to the increased power. The results are palpable: despite its weight and dimensions, the luxury saloon is agile and dynamic, has precise, responsive cornering characteristics and assists the driver with safe and neutral handling. Moreover, the Maybach 57 S provides a surprisingly high level of driving pleasure on winding country roads and on tortuous mountain passes.

To achieve these dynamic, responsive characteristics, the Maybach developers have reconfigured the stabilisers at the front and rear axles. There is now a two-millimetre thicker torsion bar at the front and a four-millimetre thicker version at the rear. These provide the luxury saloon with a sportier, more balanced suspension and more support at the rear axle. The result is a reduction in roll angle by around 15 percent and therefore more lateral stability when taking bends at speed. Handling and cornering ability are improved at the same time. The handling dynamics also benefit from a 15 millimetre reduction in ride height. Together these modifications lead to significantly improved roadholding.

The more stiffly configured Adaptive Damping System ADS II, as well as the semi-active air suspension, dampens body movements more rapidly and accentuates the sporty handling. If the driver selects the sporty mode from the three available suspension settings by pressing the switch in the centre console, the springs and dampers are even more stiffly configured. However, even in normal mode the new Maybach 57 S offers a high level of dynamic handling for the driving enthusiast without any loss of comfort. The modified suspension components also allow a more sporty configuration of ESP and ASR for higher lateral acceleration.

Specially developed 20-inch light-alloy wheels with eleven spokes

The Michelin Pilot Sport tyres in size 275/45 R20 have been specifically suited to the modified suspension, and are fitted to specially developed 8.5Jx20 eleven-spoke light-alloy wheels. Owing to the low section width of the 20-inch tyres – larger than the 19 inch tyres of the Maybach 57 – and the larger contact patch resulting from a width of 8.5 rather than 8 inches, the self-steering characteristics of the Maybach 57 S have also been improved. The more dynamically configured saloon corners considerably more precisely and with almost instant response, while generating a high level of lateral stability at the same time.

Ventilation of the braking system has also been improved. Underbody air deflectors in the area of the front axle, as well as the airflow-optimised, eleven-spoke design of the wheels, allow more cooling air to reach the brakes. This ensures better performance and fade resistance in all driving situations and operating conditions. In the Maybach 57 S these measures make for a consistently outstanding level of active safety.

The modified and reconfigured suspension of the 57 S demonstrates that Maybach developers have successfully reconciled two apparently contradictory requirements: this high-performance luxury car is able to transmit the performance requirements of the driver safely and effortlessly to the road at all times, while at the same time offering the high level of ride comfort typical of a Maybach.

The latest automotive technology

Like all Maybach models, the Maybach 57 S is equipped with the finest automotive technology, for the greatest possible comfort and safety. Maybach not only sets new standards at the absolute pinnacle of the passenger car market in terms of master craftsmanship, but also reflects the expertise of DaimlerChrysler as the world’s most innovative and tradition-steeped vehicle manufacturer, and benefits from the unique experience of its sister brand Mercedes-Benz in the development and production of high-quality cars in the luxury segment.

Major innovations by Mercedes-Benz have been developed further for the Maybach saloons, and are standard equipment – for example the electronically controlled air suspension system AIRMATIC DC (Dual Control), LINGUATRONIC voice control, the COMAND APS control and display system, a 600-watt sound system with Dolby surround sound on every seat and an efficient four-zone air conditioning system based on two separate air conditioning units.

Safety: occupant protection with ten airbags

In addition to a sophisticated body structure, the exemplary safety technology of these high-end luxury cars includes a total of ten airbags – two adaptive airbags with two-stage gas generators for the front seat occupants, four sidebags and two large windowbags for each side of the interior. Automatic comfort-fit inertia-reel seat belts, high-performance belt tensioners and belt force limiters are integrated into the seats, and are therefore able to carry out their full protective function in any position.

In keeping with the standard set by the brand, Maybach designers have also reflected the outstanding performance potential of the newly developed Maybach 57 S with additional visual features. Externally the lower suspension, the powerful lines of the radiator and the large wheels – all of which lend the car a road-hugging appearance – as well as an exclusive single-tone paint finish and other discreet, tasteful modifications already indicate at standstill the sort of performance potential the Maybach 57 S can unleash. A look into the newly designed interior reveals a mix of the finest materials with a decidedly sporty emphasis, a sophisticated colour scheme and impeccable finishing, unmistakably demonstrating the high quality-awareness and craftsmanship in which the Maybach Manufaktur takes such pride. The new Maybach 57 S truly shows how high-end dynamism can harmonise perfectly with exquisite luxury.

Sheer dynamism: single-tone paintwork and 20-inch wheels

Numerous modifications and new features create visual highlights which meet the demanding design requirements of the Maybach brand while emphasising the dynamic nature of this model. Viewed from the side, this is underlined by the 20-inch light-alloy wheels in an eleven-spoke design, which were specially developed for the Maybach 57 S, as well as the darkly tinted rear windscreen and rear side windows (not in the USA). A single-tone paint finish confirms the special position of the 57 S within this luxury car range produced in Sindelfingen. The two special, exclusively available shades of black and silver ("Baltic Black"/"Nevada Silver") lend an air of even greater dynamism to the new high-performance saloon.

New front aspect: radiator grille with twin louvres

The front aspect is dominated by the redesigned radiator grille. This closely follows the already familiar Maybach design, but creates an even more striking and powerful impression with pronounced twin louvres spaced more widely apart. The headlamp surrounds are also painted in the vehicle colour, enhancing the visual prominence of the twin headlamps and emphasising the forward-flowing dynamism of the 57 S. This highly distinctive front aspect is elegantly and dynamically rounded off by fog lamps with shining, new chrome surrounds positioned low down in the front apron.

The rear end is characterised by a newly designed rear apron. This integrates the two clearly visible, trapezoidal chrome exhaust tailpipes on the left and right into the vehicle contours and thereby particularly accentuates their visual effect. The boot lid bears the lettering "Maybach" and "57 S", and the model designation is also repeated on the wings beneath the A-pillars.

The sporty appearance of the Maybach 57 S harmoniously confirms the overall impression of an exclusive luxury car which combines the very highest quality and technical perfectionism with a thoroughbred character and impressive performance characteristics.

Fine details: top-quality material mix of carbon and piano lacquer

The interior of the Maybach 57 S exudes its very own aura. This is in large measure due to the vertical surfaces coated in piano lacquer and the carbon rather than fine wood trim which especially emphasises the horizontal surfaces. The centre console is a particular example of great attention to detail: this innovative composition of piano lacquer and carbon elements lends another powerful and eye-catching highlight to the interior as a further visual emphasis of the car’s impressive performance potential. On request, Maybach customers are also able to order the new version with poplar wood trim in anthracite as an alternative to carbon.

Perfectly coordinated with this colour scheme, the likewise new leather upholstery is available either in black or a combination of "Vesuvius Black"/"Aspen White". Once again, a sporty touch is provided by decorative piping along the seat edges. The shift lever is trimmed in the interior colour, while the steering wheel is lined with black, partially perforated leather. Both the instrument cluster and the roof console in the 57 S have a scale graduated up to 320 km/h. All the controls within the driver’s range of vision and activity reflect the tasteful overall design and perfectly proportioned, driver-oriented layout of the cockpit in the Maybach 57 S.

Black is beautiful – new high-gloss leather

Maybach customers can now give the already ultra-exclusive interior of their high-performance 57 S even more unique flair. As a new item in the individualisation range, the luxury brand is for the first time offering a black upholstery distinguished by its high gloss and a colour tone of great depth. Silver piping provides a handsome contrast and lends added emphasis to the shape of the Maybach seats. This high-grade material blends in superbly with the wood and the carbon or anthracite poplar trim, and above all with the surfaces coated in black piano lacquer which are optionally available for the interior of the Maybach 57 S.

The Maybach designers drew their inspiration from quality fashion articles such as handbags, shoes and belts. The new individualisation option is based on the semi-aniline leather already familiar from Maybach saloons; this leather is made exclusively from the hides of young southern German bulls – the best raw material on the market. In an additional process this immaculate natural product is further refined and upgraded, and the leather becomes even more lustrous and smooth, resulting in another highly attractive variant of the interior's styling.

New rear section: first-class comfort even at high speeds

The interior of the Maybach 57 S has also been thoroughly redesigned in the rear: for example, the design of the head restraints has been adapted to suit the dynamic interior styling for an impression of lightness. Nonetheless their ergonomic shape ensures optimal relaxation and typical Maybach comfort even on longer journeys at higher speeds. The large, black-tinted rear window can be optionally fitted with an opaque curtain for even greater privacy and a pleasantly subdued lighting mood during daylight hours.

Maybach designers have devoted particular attention to the revised roof lining and interior side panelling in the 57 S. These areas are lined with anthracite-coloured Alcantara in keeping with the interior colour scheme, additionally emphasising the dynamic and elegant interior atmosphere and highlighting the black piano-lacquered surrounds of the instruments in the roof console.
