Mazda 3 is unlikely to feature four-wheel drive. However, because it’s based on the Ford Focus/
Volvo S40 platform, it is technically possible, because the
Volvo is available with a Haldex all-wheel-drive system. Should the MPS absolutely be front-driven, though, we’d imagine that the engine will be de-tuned too, to a level that the front wheels will more easily cope with.

Japan’s Mazda Motor Corp. said on Friday it has temporarily suspended production of its Mazda3 compact car model at a Chinese joint venture due to a flaw in the process to acquire government approval for the model’s production.
Production at the plant in Chongqing, southwestern China, has been voluntarily suspended since April 7 after a Feb. 27 start, a Mazda spokesman in Tokyo said, adding it was unclear when it would resume.
