2011 Mazda MX-5 ’55 Le Mans’ Limited Edition

  Review

Back in 1991, Japanese automaker Mazda made history as the first Japanese automaker to win the 1991 24 Hours of Le Mans. On the strength of the Mazda 787B No.55 and driven by the team of Johnny Herbert, Volker Weidler, and Bertrand Gachot, Mazda’s ’91 Le Mans victory served notice to the world that the Japanese are more than capable of being competitive in the world stage.

Twenty years after their remarkable victory, the Japanese automaker is releasing a limited edition MX-5 Miata, which they’ve appropriately billed as the ’55 Le Mans Edition’. Available only in Switzerland, the special edition MX-5 comes in four different exterior color finishes – red, gray, white, and black – with contrasting profile strips that run the length of the sides of the car. On top of that, Mazda also gave the car a new Bilstein sports suspension, a front strut bar, a limited slip differential (LSD), and a set of 10-spoke alloy wheels. Inside, Mazda dressed up the special edition MX-5 with bespoke ‘55 Le Mans’ logos to go with a numbered plaque to designate its production number.

No performance upgrades where given to the MX-5, which means that it comes with the same 2.0-liter engine that produces 160 horsepower mated to a six-speed manual transmission.

While it sucks that the ’55 Le Mans Edition’ MX-5 will only be available in Switzerland, we can still objectively say that even with a minimal dress-up, the Mazda MX-5 Miata still looks pretty damn good.

Mazda MX-5 was so impressive on its simplicity but oozing with car appeal, and I love the fact that it is so practical to use and very reliable on the roads, and I must say that the interior of it was looks so great and fabulous.

Six speed manual transmission is quite good enough for this convertible car and as for the exterior looks of it, well I have to agree that it really looks so great on that body paint even so classy and sophisticated despite of having only a simple and ordinary platform.

I love the simplicity of this convertible, and I must say that it is already looking great and fabulous on its sleek bloody body paint, but I wonder if it had some advanced technologies that it can offer.

Well, this one is not really as half bad as some of you might think tn fact, I actually find the work that they have done here pretty good. This one is still a Miata after all so I am pretty confident.

It’s the first time that I came across this special edition MX-5. And I would say that this really a looker, though it didn’t deviate that much from the standard car.

Le Man’s latest edition is served as the best competitor for this new remarkable edition of Japanese automaker. It is also caught my fancy attention.

Not bad actually. I must admit that I am getting a bit too tired with all those MX-5 limited editions that are coming out every few months, but this one definitely caught my fancy.

Know what would make this Le Mans edition even better? If they would make this one in the same specs as the original MX-5 raced in the circuit, then that would definitely make this one a must have.

I myself am also not a fan of the MX-5, since I think that it is more of an excessive waste in terms of cars. But I actually do find this version rather to my liking.
