Japanese automaker, Mazda, will troop to the Windy City to debut another special edition model of their most popular vehicle, the MX-5 Miata. Based on the MX-5 Miata Grand Touring model, the car will be limited to only 450 models, distinguishing itself with a number of unique additions that include two new exterior colors, a black-only power retractable hard top, blah exterior accents, a new set of 17" gunmetal wheels, heated black leather seats, and interior finishes dressed in piano black. Performance specs will remain the same, which means that the car will sport a 2.0-liter four cylinder engine that produces 167 horsepower and 158 lb/ft of torque and will be mated to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed sport automatic transmission. The MX-5 Miata Special Edition’s participation at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show was done as a tribute to Mazda’s debut on the global stage back in 1989. Since then, the Miata has become one of the most popular roadsters in the world, selling over a million models since it made its debut 23 years ago. UPDATE 02/08/2012: The special edition Mazda MX-5 has made its debut at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show. Limited to only 450 units, the model will go on sale at the end of February 2012 at a starting price of $31,225 for the manual transmission and $31,675 when equipped with the six-speed automatic transmission. The model is equipped with both the Premium and Suspension packages as standard. .
11 comments: Mazda MX-5 Miata Special Edition I agree with you @Spencer . You can’t take it for granted. The soft-top you mentioned is commonly used in this roadster. I think only Ferrari is doing hard-top mechanism on their vehicles.
 It has very-friendly appearance. Well, thanks to bumper, you can’t ignore this one. The overall is good and seems nice, but the soft-top roof doesn’t fit with this car.
 Mazda MX-5 Miata looks like Ferrari. It is so attractive! Its bumper makes it seem that it is smiling.
 The debut of this Miata was great. It’s sad to know that this has a limited units only. I think this is going to be this year’s bestseller.
 This will be their ace to Ferrari. It has the same majestic exterior and bodywork. It was available on different cool colors without reducing its elegance.
 I think this car would have a serious potential if it was redesigned. I like this car but I think if it gets an update it would seriously be a big competitor!
 What a lovely color combination! The front bumper is angst with great platform design. This is perfectly made for a couple who’s on a date.
 The exterior looks luxurious even though this is a sports car. I love the color and the headlights of this 2012 Mazda MX-five Miata Special Edition. I want to own one of this sports car.
 Despite the good looks and great performance, 2012 Mazda MX-five Miata is one of the most environmental friendly minivans in Europe. I love the black and red color combination of the exterior.
