It's not always a good thing to let your mind run completely wild, but every now and again a good things do happen when you let go for a bit. And this McLaren P1 by German Special Customs is one of those times when it may have been better to just ignore those little voices in your head. This thing -- that's about all we can classify it as -- is among the first tuning kits offered for the P1, and we can only hope that future ones will look better.

What's interesting about this new "Night Glow" package is that GSC managed to increase the 3.8-liter engine's output to more than 1,000 horsepower, representing an increase of more than 100 horses over the base version.

In order to obtain this increase, GSC installed a new exhaust system with two round 100 mm (3.9-inch) exhaust tips, which were inspired by the driving engine of a fighter jet.

So far so good, but this is where things start to fall apart for this tuned P1.

McLaren P1 "Night Glow" by German Special Customs in Detail

We understand adding some extra styling elements to the outside of the P1, but we think that GSC took things a tad too far.

The new aerodynamic kit installed by the tuner draws inspiration from race cars, and it includes a newly designed front apron with LED daytime running lights and large air inlets for improved airflow. Around back, is a huge adjustable rear wing and a rear diffuser with integrated air inlets. Up top there is a roof-mounted air scoop and down the sides are new side skirts

Overall, this is just too much modification for the P1, in our opinion. Sure, we love the 1,000-plus horsepower, but the roof-mounted intake and big rear wing take away from the awesome shape of the McLaren.
