With the McLaren 650S MSO having already been showcased at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed, it was only a matter of time before McLaren Special Operations rolled out a bespoke program for 650S Spider. The recipe is pretty much the same: unique but subtle styling upgrades, special paints designed by MSO, brand-new wheels, and a custom interior. If you thought the 650S was an exclusive machine, McLaren Special Operations is here to prove you were wrong.

Just like the P1, the 650S can be tailored to meet different tastes and showcase the uniqueness many McLaren customers enjoy. The 650S Spider joins these exclusive MSO ranks in a limited edition release of just 50 examples. Make no mistake though, what you see here is only one of the 50 vehicles set to reach their future owners. Each of them will be unique in their own right. It's a privilege reserved only to MSO-crafted McLarens, and the 650S Spider fully deserves such treatment.

McLaren 650S Spider By MSO in detail

You can tell that this particular 650S Spider is no regular example by looking at its paint. The sports car is finished in a bright and eye-catching shade of blue that has been designed by MSO. Dubbed Cerulean Blue, the hue includes a heavy metallic flake and a deep-gloss shine only an exclusive, custom color could offer. It also contrasts beautifully with the satin carbon-fiber details seen on the body. The front bumper, the side air intakes, the center section of the rear bumper, and the bespoke MSO rear diffuser all benefit from this satin finish. To round off the exterior and add a touch of sheen, MSO fitted this particular example with chrome exhaust tips and 10-spoke, super-lightweight alloy wheels.

MSO spread even more uniqueness inside the cabin. The Carbon Black leather is brightened up by blue contrast stitching that extends onto the steering wheel, the dashboard, and the door panels, while the headrests are adorned by a McLaren speedmark and more blue stitching on the outer edges. Carbon-fiber sill panels with MSO logos are revealed once the doors are open to highlight the sports car's lightweight MonoCell chassis. Just like the exterior, the cabin too benefits from satin carbon-fiber inserts throughout the driver and passenger areas.

Lastly, each and every MSO 650S Spider comes with a special plaque signed by McLaren Automotive design director Frank Stephenson and a luxury MSO leather bag. The latter is handmade from carbon-fiber leather with dark-chrome metal pieces.

McLaren 650S Spider

Unveiled at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, the McLaren 650S came to replace the aging MP4-12C. Available in both Coupe and Spider versions, the 650S borrows styling cues from both its predecessor and the P1 supercar->ke177. While the rear end is reminiscent of the MP4-12C, the front fascia features styling cues similar to those seen on the company's flagship, hybrid vehicle.

Like any modern McLaren, the 650S Spider is powered by a twin-turbo, 3.8-liter V-8. The engine mates to a seven-speed transmission, and sends 640 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque to the pavement. All that power enables the 650S Spider to sprint from naught to 60 mph in only three seconds, while top speed is officially rated at 204 mph. Pricing for the 650S Spider begins from $280,225, making it nearly $15,000 pricier than the base 650S.
