2013 Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe

Back in 2008, Mercedes was looking to expand its market to include the younger population and they decided that the best way to do that was to offer a C-Class Coupe alternative. That project led to the birth of the CLC whose success in the market was more lackluster than bedazzled. Now, Mercedes is at it again with a much more simple approach to meeting the needs of the younger generation. This simple - in the best sense of the word - vehicle is the C-Class Coupe, and Mercedes is even taking a stab at an AMG version. This is certainly a good thing because, well, the BMW M3 Coupe needs a real competitor, right?

The new C63 AMG Coupe will join the current AMG Coupe and will be put on sale this July in Europe, while on the US market sales will begin in September 2011. The first units will be sold as the "Edition 1" and will be offered with exclusive equipments.

UPDATE 04/30/2012: Mercedes is celebrating two million video views with a very cool video presenting the C 63 AMG Coupe drifting around the Corkscrew at Laguna Seca. Enjoy!

Video: Renegade Mercedes Techs Joyride a C63 AMG Coupe Black Series

Many years ago, I was a lowly sales person at a Dodge, Chrysler, and Jeep dealership in Florida. As a sales person, you got to test drive nearly every new car and every trim level of every new car, as they came in. It was the only way to really get a feel for each car. There were only a few vehicles that we were forbidden to touch. Those vehicles were the Dodge Viper and the Ram 1500 SRT-10, because those were considered collectibles and the extra mileage could reduce their value – plus they knew what we would do with them.

This is pretty much standard procedure at every single car dealership, including Mercedes. The Mercedes C63 AMC Coupe Black Series is much like the Viper and SRT-10 Ram were for Dodge, simply untouchable. Apparently a few technicians at Star Motors in Ottawa, Canada did not get that memo.

They took one of the 30 models of the Black Series available in Canada out on an 8:11 joyride through Ottawa. It would be one thing if they just drove it around to look cool and brought it back to the shop safely. Nope, these techs decided to see what this AMG coupe could do on multiple occasions.

At one point, the driver mentions that in manual mode, the car does not automatically up shift. The passenger didn’t believe him, so the guy proceeds to take the car up to redline in first gear and keep it there for about five seconds. This car can certainly handle that, but as all new car techs should know, these things require a break-in period before seeing that sort of stress.

Thankfully, the snoops over at MBWorld.com recognized the dealership, and alerted officials at Mercedes-Benz Canada. Mercedes is currently attempting to track down the owner of this thrashed upon vehicle to let him or her know the scoop on the car. Whether or not Mercedes will compensate the owner with anything is not known

All we can hope is that these techs got what was coming to them by the car gods!

2013 Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe "5.7 Edition" by Wheelsandmore

Never content with just one tuning program at a time, German tuner Wheelsandmore has prepared a separate program for the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe, joining their new package for the SL500 R231.

For the former, Wheelsandmore added a subtle styling upgrade with a stripe design on the right side of the vehicle serving as an optional feature should you want to spice up the look of your car. The two biggest features of Wheelsandmore’s program are the new set of 20" 6Sporz² forged wheels wrapped in Dunlop Sportmaxx GT tires. Since customers have free reign on what kind of rims they want, the German tuners created matte black wheel centers and rims colored in the same hue as that of the original AMG brake calipers. Moreover, Wheelsandmore also added an in-compression, a rebound adjustable KW coil over suspension, and a performance upgrade that includes special 4-in-1 manifolds, sport air filters, modified electronics and a flap-controlled stainless steel exhaust system.

All told, the C63 AMG Coupe’s 6.2 liter V8 engine receives an increased output of 570 horsepower, an increase of 113 ponies over the standard model’s 457-horsepower output. Torque numbers also increased to 509 lb/ft with a bump in top speed of 199 mph, a significant spike from the electronically limited 155 mph top speed of the standard C63 AMG Coupe.

2012 Mercedes C-Class Bullit Coupe by Brabus

German tuner, Brabus, has made a living building ridiculous engine modifications with some of their past Mercedes programs and it’s only fitting that they’re following all that up with yet another mind-boggling project.

The lucky Mercedes to get the latest Brabus treatment is the new Mercedes C-Class Coupe. Called the Brabus Bullit Coupe, the C-Class comes dressed to the 2012 Geneva Motor Show party with a slick matte black finish that only underscores the monstrous V12 engine under its belly.

Talking about that V12 engine, we know that Brabus has never been shy when it comes to engine tweaks and thanks to their colossal turbocharged V12 engine, the lively and spunky C-Class now boasts of an insane 800 horsepower and 1,047 lb/ft of torque. To ensure that the car’s seven-speed automatic transmission, which is shifted either automatically or manually via shift paddles on the steering wheel, doesn’t go out of whack, Brabus is limiting the car to "just" 811 lb/ft of torque, which is still mighty impressive in its own right.

In the end, the Brabus Bullit Coupe is able to blast off from 0-62 mph in just 3.7 seconds, from 0-124 mph in 9.8 seconds, and from 0-186 mph in 23.8 seconds. Top speed has also been boosted to 230 mph.

The Brabus Bullit Coupe also features a Biturbo system that is comprised of two special exhaust manifolds with integrated high-performance turbochargers, and four water-to-air intercoolers. Brabus also created the stainless-steel high-performance exhaust system with free-flow metal catalysts and driver-controlled butterfly valve specifically for the C-Class Coupe.

Exterior modifications for the Bullitt consist of a supplemental carbon-fiber BRABUS front spoiler that reduces lift on the front axle at high speeds. There are also carbon-fiber lightweight air routers for the air inlets in the front fascia and BRABUS air vents integrated into the front fenders behind the wheel wells. At the back of the rocket is an aerodynamically effective combination of rear wing and diffuser insert for the rear fascia in order to generate more downforce on the rear axle. This carbon-fiber component has cutouts on the right and left side for the dual ceramics-plated design tailpipes of the BRABUS stainless-steel high-performance exhaust system. The car now sits on new 20" BRABUS Monoblock R wheels with a titanium paint finish and polished and coated anterior surfaces, wrapped around high-performance tires from either Continental, Pirelli, or YOKOHAMA, in sizes 235/30 ZR 20 and 275/25 ZR 20.

Needless to say, a performance bump like this doesn’t come cheap and in the case of the Bulitt Coupe, that sticker price reaches €449,820, which is around $593,860 based on current exchange rates.
