Mercedes CLS-Class

Mercedes CLS-Class

The Mercedes-Benz CLS is a series of automobile models assembled by DaimlerChrysler in Sindelfingen, Germany. It is Mercedes-Benz’s newest sedan since the debut of the E-Class in 1995. The class was first offered for sale in Europe in autumn 2004.Marketed as a ’four door coupe,’ the CLS recalls the fastback sedan designs of Robert Opron in the 1970’s. According to a Mercedes-Benz press release, the CLS-class was produced to combine the "strong, emotive charisma" of a coupe with the "comfort and practicality" of a sedan.

German tuner, Kicherer, has prepared a new performance package based on the latest generation Mercedes CLS500 . The package includes matte foil, consistent performance increase, exclusive wheel/tire combinations, and the intense use of high-quality carbon-fiber elements.

The new package is called "Edition Black" and as its name suggests, it is covered with a matte-black foil that transforms the Mercedes into an exclusive one-of-a-kind car. It sits on a new set of 20" RS-1 forged wheels developed in house and combined with a sportive chassis adjustment. The black theme flows into the interior with a specifically developed, black-finish interior set.

While the exterior and interior modifications were subtle, Kicherer spared no expanse for the engine’s changes. The CLS500’s 4.7L V8 engine was massaged to deliver 440 HP and 464 lb-ft of torque, up from the standard 402 HP and 443 lb-ft of torque. Perfect deceleration is provided by a high-performance brake system with steel flex brake lines. The tuner will also be offering a Power Converter system that eliminates the automatic gear inertia.

During the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, Carlsson unveiled the first upgrade package for the 2012 Mercedes CLS63 AMG , but it seems they opted out of taking a vacation over the summer to present us with something new. For the 2011 Frankfurt Show, the tuner has revealed the CK63 RS; a new package with even more impressive exterior modifications and an extra 50 HP over the previous package.

The new CK63 RS starts off with the new CLS63 AMG equipped with the AMG Performance Package which increases the V8’s engine output to 557 HP and 589 lbs-ft (up from 525 HP and 516 lbs-ft of torque). After a few tuning tweaks, the new CK63 RS delivers a total of 649 HP and 663 lbs-ft of torque, sprinting the Mercedes from 0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds.

The exterior design for the new generation Mercedes CL S isn’t ho-hum by any means, but the added muscle provided by Carlsson warranted some changes. For that the tuner added a new front spoiler, a carbon fiber front spoiler lip, painted stainless steel grille inserts, a discrete trunk lip spoiler, and a new rear bumper. There is also a new set of 20" wheels in a double spoke design (available in Brilliant Edition, Graphite Edition, and Titanium Edition) and a new stainless steel sport exhaust system with 4 oval end pipes.

The Mercedes can also be lowered by about 30mm with a Carlsson patented suspension with two sport springs. This suspension reads the road conditions every 150 milliseconds and adjusts accordingly.

For the interior, customers can choose between wood, leather, Alcantara, and carbon fiber. The vehicle’s door panels, seats, and the rear seat bench are covered in Mokka brown Carlsson nappa leather and the dashboard, door panels, and center console have dark brown/matte carbon inlays. Other features of the interior include illuminated door sill panels, soft velour floor mats with a Carlsson logo, and brushed aluminum door pins.

Mercedes tuner extraordinaire, Brabus , is bringing their latest Rocket program to the Frankfurt Motor Show through the Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class . Days ahead of the premiere, details of the tuned-up luxury sedan have finally been revealed, giving us an indication on what to expect for the whole program.

The Brabus Rocket 800 comes with both aesthetic and technical improvements. The former includes a new trim that features a new front fascia with massive air intakes, air outlets for the front fenders, a new rear fender and rear fascia, a diffuser wing, a rear wing, and a set of lightweight Brabus Brabus Monoblock F Platinum Edition cross-spoke wheels. Inside, the changes largely feature the usual goodies and luxury refinements that Brabus has come to be known for.

The Brabus Rocket 800 is considered one of the, if not the most powerful luxury sedan in the world. As such, great lengths are have been taken by Brabus to ensure that it lives up to the hype. For the 2012 model, the Mercedes CLS is expected to carry a newly tuned V12 engine that produces 800 horsepower and 811 lb/ft of torque mated to an AMG Speedshift MCT seven-speed sports transmission. Performance numbers result in a 0-62 mph sprint time of 3.7 seconds with a top speed of 230 mph.

With its lofty status as one of the fastest luxury sedans in the world, the Brabus Rocket 800 will cost you €429,000, excluding taxes. Base that on current USD exchange rates and you’ll need to shell out $582,000 for the privilege of owning this monster.

Japanese tuner, Wald International, is taking one idea and turning it into about 20 with its ongoing Black Bison tuning packages. We’ve seen this package added to all kinds of vehicles, from the Lexus LX570 to the BMW 5-Series F10 and back to the Lexus LS600h . It’s a regular dark-as-night themed soiree at Wald International and the next vehicle to be invited is the new generation Mercedes CLS-Class

As the name of the package suggests, the Mercedes CLS Black Bison is all about the black, inside and out. Aside from that, the CLS also gets upgraded with LED daytime running lights, sport front fenders, side skirts, a rear bumper with LED brake lights, new exhaust tips, and new trunk and roof spoilers. The package sits on a special set of wheels painted in black with a design specially created for the new CLS.

For the interior, the tuner offers black leather for the front and rear seats, a limited set of bespoke floor mats, a three-spoke steering wheel, and new technologies added for a better comfort.

The only other feature Wald International seems to have added is a lowered suspension, which means no changes were made under the hood. Not that we expected any, though. None of the other Black Bison packages have had any power boosts so why would they stray from the formula? That being said, the 2012 Mercedes CLS-Class is already sporting a new 402-hp twin-turbo V-8 so changing it at this point would be jumping the gun just a bit.

Updated 11/30/2011: Today we have added new images of the Mercedes CLS Black Bison by Wald International. Enjoy!

Following the release of its Mercedes SLS AMG program last May, MEC Design has gone ahead and introduced their latest Silver Arrow project. However, this time they are focusing their attention on the sporty and luxurious CLS 500 .

Included in the styling and aerodynamic kit are new modified bumpers with LED fog lights and daylights, a new ’Extreme’ diffuser on the rear, new side skirts, a three-piece trunklid spoiler, and a rear roof spoiler. In addition to that, the CLS 500 was also given a refreshed grille, LED mirror covers, a decidedly sexy and sleek full matte black foil wrap, four stainless steel pipe tips, and a set of 20" mecxtremeIII full matte black finish alloy wheels that have been wrapped in 285/25 ZR 20 tires. Inside, the CLS 500 receives a new carbon and leather steering wheel to go with new floormats.

MEC Design’s program concentrated on the styling and aerodynamic elements of the CLS 500 , opting to leave the car’s 4.6-liter V8 engine that produces an output of 402 horsepower and 443 lb/ft of torque largely untouched.

Not that it should matter because the CLS 500 is already one that has its fair share of high-powered ponies under its hood.

Kicherer certainly outdid themselves this time. With a new tuning program for the Mercedes CLS 500 called the "Big Black One", the German tuning company has given us the full breadth of what the CLS is capable of. It’s got a cool nickname that immediately grabs your attention and a look that adds some aggression, but the best part is that it’s got pretty nasty performance upgrades that should make it more imposing than it already is.

On it’s own, this Mercedes already packs quite a mean punch, thanks to a 4.6-liter V8 engine that produces an output of 402 horsepower and 443 lb/ft of torque. But thanks to a software update and the addition of a new sports exhaust system, Kicherer was able to bump up the output to 463 horsepower and 509 lb/ft of torque.

On top of the engine improvements, the tuning company also installed their very own PowerConverter, allowing the car to have a faster jump out of the block than it normally would. A power upgrade with a speed boost? Sounds sweet to us.

The car’s chassis was also given a HighEnd Foliation treatment in matte black and carbon to go with the addition of a set of of its own hand-made 20" RS-1 forged wheels.

Some may remember the stark contrast of black and white used to set the original Mercedes E55 AMG apart from the pack. The black leather with white inserts and a swatch of white on the steering wheel gave the car an aggressive attitude. Wheels and More has taken the latest Mercedes CLS AMG and brought back some of that original flair, but this tuning company has added several tasteful components to make this one of the first tuned CLS models in the world.

To complement the bold white exterior, three piece black alloy wheels were added. These are the newest version of the 6Sporz model and they measure 9.5 x 20 in the front and 11 x 20 in the rear. That large wheel is backed up with some serious rubber from Dunlop; namely 255/30/20 Sportmaxx’s in the front and 305/25/20 Sportmaxx’s at the back. These huge patches of rubber should help keep this CLS glued tightly to the road.

Two months after Mercedes unveiled the standard CLS model at the 2010 Paris Auto Show, the better version of the CLS-Class was ready to spice up the eagerly waiting public. The CLS63 AMG showed its face at the LA Auto Show and it was ready to bring the heat with its 5.5-liter biturbo V8 engine.

A standard CLS model is offered with either a 204 HP six cylinder engine or a 408 HP V8, but the AMG version will use a 5.5-liter biturbo V8 engine that will deliver a total of 518 HP and 516 lb.-ft. of torque. There will also be a Performance Package that will increase the engine’s power to 550 hp and 590 lb.-ft. of torque.

The Mercedes CLS63 AMG should go on sale in the summer of 2011 with a starting price of 115,846 Euros (about $155K at the current rates).

UPDATE 04/26/2011: Mercedes has announced prices for the CLS 63 AMG luxury sports sedan. The new model will go on sale in the summer of 2011, with prices starting from $94,900. Prices exclude a $875 destination & delivery charge.

UPDATE 05/16/2011: The new Mercedes CLS 63 AMG is now officially on sale on the US market. And this was the perfect opportunity to add new images to our gallery. Enjoy!

German tuner, Wheelsandmore, has released their first package for the relatively young Mercedes CLS63 AMG and boy did we hope it was going to be good. With tuning kits provided by Carlsson and Brabus delivering 600HP and 730HP respectively, Wheelsandmore needed to come out with a spectacular package to even think about competing against these packages. Unfortunately, Wheelsandmore only managed to increase the V8’s engine to a total of 580 HP while elevating the peak torque to 575 lbs-ft. In order to obtain this 62 HP increase, the tuner modified the ECU and installed a new exhaust system to make the engine sound that much better.

Next to the engine upgrades, Wheelsandmore is also offering a new set of 20" three-part forged wheels, finished in black, and a new KW suspension. The wheels create a perfect contrast with the white exterior paint and the carbon fiber aero parts, but we can’t say they are enough to make up for the mild power update. Technically, 62 HP isn’t a mild increase whatsoever, but with other kits provided drastic power upgrades, the Mercedes CLS63 AMG by Wheelsandmore just falls short.

At the end of 2010, Carlsson revealed an impressive tuning package for the new generation Mercedes CLS-Class . Now the tuner has moved on to the most powerful model in the CLS lineup: the CLS 63 AMG .

For the CLS 63 AMG package, the 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine has been updated to deliver an impressive 600 HP, up from the standard 518 HP and 516 lb.-ft. of torque. Next to this, the tuner is offering a nifty aerodynamic package that includes a new front spoiler, an RS front spoiler lip (available in real carbon), a new rear spoiler, a rear apron, and a built-in diffuser which functions as a tailplane and ensures extra downforce and more stable road holding at high speeds.

As an added bonus, this package can be applied to any other model in the CLS-Class line-up.
