The future Mercedes G55 AMG was caught testing for the first time back in October and now spy photographers have been able to catch up with it yet again while it performed some winter testing in Sweden. Luckily, this prototype was dressed down enough to reveal a few more details on the exterior’s changes.
From these images we can see that the new G55AMG will be graced with new side mirrors, a revised grille, a new front bumper with one integrated cooler, and some LED day driving lights integrated in the bottom of the headlight unit. The SUV will also get new wheels with a new design and an updated brake system. For the interior, Mercedes will offer a new instrument cluster, a new steering wheel, and a sat-nav screen on top of the dash as seen on the new B-Class.
Under the hood, the Mercedes G55 AMG will have a 5.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with around 525 HP and 516 lb-ft of torque. Mercedes has promised it will work on improving the fuel consumption, but they can only do so much with this high-powered beast of a vehicle.
Mercedes AMG has revealed a pretty cool tribute video to the G 55 AMG - a model that came onto the market in 2004. The current model is powered by a supercharged 5.5 liter V8 engine with an output of 476 HP and 700 Nm torque. But Mercedes is preparing a new model that will use a new 5.5 liter V8 engine with an output between 525 HP and 544 HP.
Until we will finally see the new G55 AMG in January 2012 at the Detroit Auto Show enjoy this video and see one classic car in action. And please remember that the G-Class remains the perfect choice for those who want to combine off-road capabilities with the classic look. And its quite long history proves that Mercedes is doing an incredible job. As they always do!
Noted Mercedes tuning company, Carlsson, has been far busier than usual these past few weeks. Of course, with the Frankfurt Motor Show scheduled in a month’s time, everybody is pretty busy in the auto industry these days.
For their part, Carlsson has dropped the details on one of their IAA-bound vehicles, the Mercedes GL-Class Grand Edition "CGL45". With upgrades being done across the board, Carlsson’s new program for the GL-Class Grand Edition offers plenty of improvements. For starters, the SUV’s body package comes from high-quality PUR-Rim plastic, the wheel arches have been made wider, and there’s a new chrome radiator grille complemented by mesh inserts. On top of that, the tuning company also added an impressive lighting set-up that features a couple of double light units wand LED daytime running lights on the front spoiler. Rounding out the exterior package are a set of 22" 1/5 Evo Brilliant Edition five-spoke alloy wheels and a suspension kit that drops the SUV’s ride height by 30 mm.
Inside, Carlsson gave the GL-Class Grand Edition a variety of goodies, including Nappa leather, Alcantara, stainless steel, and wood trimmings. There are also embossed illuminated sill plates and unique numbered and signed plaques on the center console for each model.
As far as the engine is concerned, the GL-Class Grand Edition received a notable bump in power, thanks to the tuner’s own C-Tronic power unit. The resulting upgrade took the SUV’s 5.5-liter V8 engine on the GL500 from an output of 388 horsepower and 391 lb/ft of torque all the way up to 435 horsepower and 442 lb/ft of torque.
The second special edition G-Class to mark the last leg of the Mercedes model is called "Edition Select" and will be based on the long-wheelbase G 500 Station Wagon. The price for the package is €6735, or $9950 at the current exchange rates.
The new "Edition Select" model will be offered in a two-tone paintwork that combines designo mystic white, palladium silver metallic, thulite red metallic, or obsidian black metallic. It will be further distinguished by new bumpers, obsidian black AMG side flaps and exterior mirrors, running boards, and a spare wheel cover with a 3D Mercedes-Benz star in stainless steel. Finishing off the looks are black 18-inch light-alloy wheels in a 5-twin-spoke design with size 265/60 R 18 tires, carbon-fiber look inserts in the protective strips, an underguard and an AMG sports exhaust system.
The interior of the special edition will add high-grade two-tone upholstery in a porcelain/black designo leather and chrome trim on the selector lever, seat adjustment controls, and loudspeakers in the front doors. Black leather will also be used on the dashboard, armrest, door handles, and parking brake lever, while the inner door panels are lined with gathered leather. Mercedes is also offering a designo wood trim in black piano lacquer, while the steering wheel and selector lever are in a leather/piano lacquer combination with contrasting topstitching.
The Mercedes G-Class is entering its final phase and to mark the event, the company has launched the special edition BA3 Final Edition. It will be based on two different variants of the offroad vehicle - the G 350BlueTEC model or the G500 model - and will be priced at € 90,511.40 ($134,463 at the current rates) for the G350 and €100,685.90 ($149,577 at the current rates) for the G500.
The BA3 Final Edition will be distinguished by AMG flared wheel arches, a new set of 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels, a 3D Mercedes-Benz star in stainless steel, and an AMG radiator grille in a 3-louver design with chrome highlights. Further distinction will be claimed with an electric sliding/tilting sunroof, metallic paintwork, rear mudflaps, carbon-fiber look inserts in the protective strips, an ultrasonic reversing aid, and a tire pressure monitoring system. On the interior, Mercedes has added functional ambient lighting, chrome highlights on the frame and selector lever cover, seat adjustment controls, and loudspeakers in the front doors. The front seats will be covered in black leather combined with burr walnut wood trim, while the steering wheel and selector lever get high-grade wood plus leather.
The list of standard equipment will include a convenience telephone system in the armrest with a universal interface for various mobile phone cradles, extended telephone functions, a charging function, and an external aerial for optimum reception.
Before there was a Typhoon package for the BMW X5M and X6M by G-Power, Hamann had already dressed up the Mercedes G55 AMG with a different package with that same name. The original kit came with a massive aerodynamic kit, as well as two different performance upgrades. Now, Specialty Car Craft has taken the modified G55 and tuned it even further for Anton Kasabov, a three-time World Martial Arts Champion.
There aren’t many details on the modified tuning package, but the original kit came with optimized air flow, two LED daytime running lights integrated in the front spoiler, a roof spoiler, a newly designed rear skirt with the integrated diffuser, and a 13-part exterior set made of carbon fiber (radiator grill, headlight protective grid, mirror cases, door handles, air inlets in the side wings, bonnet air blind). The exterior is draped in a black paint job with red highlights all over the car, including on the hood, grill, tires, etc.
Specialty Car Craft and Anton Kasabov would be insane not to incorporate the two engine options included in the G55 by Hamann. That package allowed customers to choose from either a mild 35 HP upgrade, or the more appropriate HM 600 performance kit that provided the 5.4 Liter engine with a blower to produce 600 HP and 576 lb-ft of torque. This upgrade allows the gritty SUV to go from 0 to 60 MPH in 5.1 seconds and hit a top speed of 162 MPH.
If you’re interested in modifying your G55 to look like Kasabov’s, well that’s just too bad. Specialty Car Craft constructed this makeover specifically for the martial arts master as a one-off project.
The Mercedes G55 AMG is no slouch by any stretch of the imagination. So when somebody is looking to put more power under its hood, you know that their reasons are far more than just necessity.
Mercedes tuner extraordinaire Brabus knows a thing or two about building performance packages for the G55 AMG, having done so a few years ago with a 700-horsepower monster of an SUV.
Turns out, 700 horsepower wasn’t powerful enough for these guys because they’ve just released their newest performance package that produces a jaw-dropping 800 horsepower, making it the most powerful SUV in the world. We don’t normally subscribe to masochistic amounts of power on an SUV, but Brabus’ work on the G55 AMG is nothing short of staggering. The only thing that we’re worried about is that this SUV’s price tag will be as pocket-burning as the last one the tuning firm built.
If you remember Brabus’ last work, the whole thing cost around €379,000, or about $482,000 based on current exchange rates. Add 100 more horsepower on this one and you can be sure that the price will spike north of half a million, which if you’re a man of sound body and mind, you’ll know is beyond excessive.
Details on the Brabus 800 Widestar after the jump.
Mansory is a tuner usual known for their impressive tuning packages for sports car models. But this time they turned their attention to a model a little bit more unusual, for them at least: the Mercedes G-Class. While there are no changes made under the hood, Mansory focused on improving the car’s ride comfort that ha always been a problem.
For that the tuner added a new suspension which is electronically adjustable from the cockpit, with two different characteristic shock absorber curves. After fitting, the shock absorbers can be readjusted from the interior of the car for use on tough terrain or for a comfortable drive on metaled roads. There are extra large gas reservoirs, made from high tensile hard anodized aluminum that ensure that the pressure remains constant even at operating temperatures of over 150 °C.
Next to this improvements the car also gets a new set of light alloy wheels, and on request different interior updates.
It seems that the Qatar Motor Show is much more impressive than everyone expected with an exorbitant number of cool cars getting their chance on the show floor. One of these models is the new Mercedes G-Class Arabia 100 Limited Edition. As it name suggests, this special edition will be limited to just 100 units and will be offered exclusively to the Middle East where the G55 AMG sales are higher than anywhere else in the world.
The new edition will be available in two of the more typical exterior colors: Cashmere White and Night Black. Looking further into the special edition G-Class Arabia 100 we can see inlay protection strips in carbon design and 19" alloy AMG wheels in a black matte finish.
Its most spectacular features include a 2-tone Designo leather in black and porcelain, an inner-section door covers in porcelain, floor mats with bordering porcelain, a champagne white Designo piano lacquer wood trim, a media interface, a rear entertainment system, and the NeckPro headrest as well as a badge.
The German tuner, ART, has unveiled a new tuning package based on the Mercedes G400 CDI. The package is called the G Streetline Edition Sterling and includes both styling and engine updates.
The body kit includes a redesigned front bumper, a modified aero hood with four times four air inlets, shape-optimizing running board trim, fender extensions including LED running board lighting, a rear bumper with integrated LED rear and fog lights, a roof spoiler with additional LED brake light, and illuminated entry ledges on all five doors with the A.R.T. logo. The exterior package is continued with a two-tone carbody paintwork that combines Magno blue-black and Designo Alanit-gray, and 22" rim monoART1 wheels.
The interior gets nappa leather with classic British Racing Green used in the diamond quilting and Designo Anthracite Gray and graphite-fiber fittings used in abundance in the area around the instrument board, central console, and doors. The engine has been tuned to deliver 292 HP and 624 Nm of torque thanks to a modified sport exhaust system with six stainless steel tailpipes.
