Mercedes will unveil the Vision GLK Freeside Concept at the Detroit Auto Show. It is powered by a new-generation diesel engine. The four-cylinder unit, with a 2.2-litre displacement, reflects the study vehicle’s dynamic basic concept and allows impressive performance figures with an output of 125 kW/170 hp, plus reduced consumption and reduced emissions.
GLK – a combination of letters that has specific connotations. The “G” alludes to the archetypal cross-country vehicle, the “L” intimates luxury and, as in other Mercedes model series, the “K” stands for compactness (German: Kompaktheit). At first sight these three aspects may appear to be mutually incompatible. But on closer inspection they offer the perfect combination as Mercedes-Benz takes its SUV expertise and launches it in a whole new dimension – in the exciting Vision GLK FREESIDE. Mercedes will unveil the 20098 GLK-Class in January at the Detroit Auto Show. Until then here it is on some scenes of the ’Sex & The City - The Movie’.
The forthcoming Mercedes-Benz GLK, an SUV/crossover based on the new C Class, has been spotted testing in Germany, both on the open road and at the Nurburgring.
The action was caught on video. When introduced, the GLK is expected to be available either as an all wheel drive or rear wheel drive vehicle, three engines, incuding two V-6s, one with 272 hp, and three different diesels. Eventually, an AMG version is also anticipated.
Americans can not get enough of Suv’s and neither can competiting automotive manufacturers. Mercedes is working on a rival for BMW X3’s which will be appropriately labeled the Mercedes GLK. We found on Worldscoop site this new image of the 2008 Mercedes GLK-Class, but we can’t tell for sure if this is an official photo or just another photoshop rendering.

Autobild has published the first undisguised image of the 2008 Mercedes GLK-Class, the main competitor of the BMW X3. The GLK-Class will make its world debut at either the 2007 Frankfurt or 2008 Geneva Auto Show. An AMG version is also expected.
The car will feature all-weather tires, hill-descent control, a mildly raised suspension with skid plates, and some outdoorsy cosmetics but no extra diff locks or a low-range transfer case. The curb weight will be between 3400 and 3700 lbs.
