Mercedes M-Class

Mercedes M-Class

The Mercedes-Benz M-Class is a 4-door SUV with light off-road capability, first offered in 1997, and built in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, USA. It marked a shift at Mercedes-Benz in becoming a global player; while it had plants outside Germany before, they merely built facsimiles of German models. In contrast, the M-Class was conceived with the American market in mind and built at an American factory. Despite early negative press about quality control, the M-Class became a huge sales success in the United States.

Mercedes has unveiled the special edition M-Class Grand Edition, a package available for all models in the series with the exception of the ML 63 AMG.

The M-Class Grand Edition is distinguishable by 19-inch light-alloy wheels in a Y-spoke design, blue-tinted thermal insulation glass all-round, dark-tinted headlamps and LED technology for the daytime driving lights and sporty, darkened tail lights, aluminium roof rails and an extensive chrome package with an AMG radiator grille and underguards at the front and rear round. This special edition comes standard with a metallic paint finish, but on request it can be offered with a paint finish in chromite black or diamond white, and 50.8 cm (20-inch) bicolor light-alloy wheels.

It sucks that this spy video of the new Mercedes-Benz M-Class caught the next-generation SUV in all its camouflaged glory – it would have been awesome to catch the tiniest glimpse of the new M-Class - but at this point, we’re just happy that we finally have video evidence of the car as opposed to all the spy photos we’ve seen in the past.

With a platform that is shared with the new Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 2012 Dodge Durango , expect the new M-Class to come with something unique to separate itself from its competitors. Reports have surfaced that the Mercedes SUV will come with a revised engine line-up that is expected to come with a few variants, most notably a hybrid powertrain with plug-in capability.

What are the chances to have the next generation ML-Class, a CL-Class AMG test car and a S-Class AMG in the same place at the same time? Barely none. But it seems it happened. While testing the 2012 Mercedes ML-Class the German engineers had to do a task that is usually not found on their daily list: pulling out a CL-Class AMG test car from snow. And with a little help from a S-Class AMG they did it! After some efforts!

As it comes from the factory, the Mercedes Benz ML63 AMG is one of the most powerful SUVs on the market today. However if you appetite can’t be satiated by Mercedes in house tuners, then the aftermarket modification specialists at VATH might have something that is of great interest to you, an all new performance package that not only adds a few horsepower to the ML Class, but also balance out all aspects of the ML as well.

Not ones to worry about getting their hands dirty, VATH’s team of mechanics will pull the heads so that their machinists can open up the air passages with a port and polish before they recut the valve seats so that not only will they be able to flow more air but so that the new oversized intake and exhaust valves will be able to keep the power producing explosion inside the combustion chamber even better contained. With the addition of performance camshafts, the entire package will bump the hand built 6.2 Liter V8s output up to 585 HP, 75 HP over stock. The result of the enhancements is an SUV that can sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in only 4.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 186 MPH. On the outside, VATH’s adds a new rear spoiler to help keep the SUV stable at speed. The ML now rides on a set of three piece light weight alloy rims measuring 22 inches in diameter that house a high performance braking system and hide the upgraded suspension from gazing onlookers. The price for all this high performance hardware is €17,850; which is not bad considering the amount you already dropped on an AMG tuned SUV.

Earlier this week the German automaker Mercedes Benz started to offer a gas/electric version of their full size SUV, the the ML450 Hybrid 4MATIC. However owners looking to establish a long term relationship with the new truck might be a little surprised to find out that the luxury automaker is only offering the new hybrid SUV as part of a special lease only option starting at $659 per month for a three year commitment and as low as $549 per month with a five year agreement.

Powered by a 3.5 Liter Atkinson cycle V6 gasoline engine assisted by two magneto electric motors and a sophisticated hybrid electric module that promises to return up to 46% better fuel economy than the comparable V8 powered Mercedes Benz ML550. Each of the ML450 Hybrid ’s electric motors serve a different purpose. The first is affixed to the transmission output shaft and generates an additional 80 HP and 192 lb-ft of torque allowing the new hybrid powered ML 450 to operate as a zero emissions electric vehicle before the gasoline engine is needed for additional support. The second combination of magnets and wound electric wires is dedicated to improving the hybrid’s acceleration and is rated at 83 HP and 173 lb-ft of thrust, bringing the green SUV’s maximum output up to 335 HP and 381 lb-ft of torque. The only downside is that at least for now, you won’t be able to pick up one of these premium hybrid luxury SUVs second hand.

If you thought that the German tuner Sportservice Lorinser had taken the ML Class Mercedes Benz SUV to new heights then think again, because the new kit from Expression Motorsport takes the full sized sport utility vehicle and adds a heap of bulging body parts that make the top of the line Mercedes ML, the factory tuned ML63 AMG , into a truly aggressive wide body machine. The kit starts out with a multi piece set of fender flares complete with air extraction vents trailing the front wheels as well as a set of rocker moldings that complete the car’s widened stance. From the front the ML gets an all new face thanks to a pair of emphasized power dome additions in the hood as well as a sporty wide mouth front bumper that not only includes a pair of fog lights, but the now aftermarket standard strips of LED driving lights. Out back the Expression Motorsport ML wide body kit consists of a new rear bumper made with an integrated carbon fiber diffuser that frames the dual twin tip exhausts. Expression Motorsport has succeeded in taking an already proven product and with a few key components transforms it into a true sport utility vehicle.

The German tuning firm Sportservice Lorinser has just revealed a new customization program for the Mercedes Benz M-Class. The aftermarket parts specialists have added a set of bulging fenders as well as a bold blacked out four bar and some new scoops in the front bumper with matching fog lights. The aero upgrades continue with a set of aggressive side skirts and a more attractive rear bumper that makes just the right amount of room for the four massive Lorinser exhaust tips that protrude out the back of the modified M-Class and give the full size SUV the sounds of a sports car.

Depending on what the consumer is looking for, Lorinser is ready and waiting with a diverse set of light weight alloy wheels built to support the broad SUV giving it a much sportier appearance. Many of their rolling offerings are available in a multitude of painted finishes giving owners the option of dressing up their M Class to suit their individual taste, because after all that is the goal of high end tuning.

Facelift M-Class by Lorinser

The aftermarket manufacturers at Sportservice Lorinser have just gotten their hands on the new face lifted Mercedes Benz M-Class and given the mid size SUV a refreshing of their own. The craftsmen at the German tuning house started by replacing the shiny factory element with a thick four bar grill; they went on to include a sportier bumpers with wings, diffusers and vents molded in as well as a pair of Lorinser emblem wearing side skirts that make the somewhat rounded grocery getter into a bolder more solid shape. However, quite possibly the nicest part of the Lorinser M-Class are the company’s signature RS9 light weight alloy wheels that finish off the Benz ’s newfound bad attitude.

Last year in Geneva the French tuners Parotech released a white Volkswagen Touraeg that would have made you spend the entire day at their booth. This year they are at it again with the Parotech Uranium. Based on a Mercedes ML SUV, the flat black Uranium took on some subtle enhancements like the new grill, wider fenders and projector headlights. As well as a few very bold improvements like the Sony sound system and four racing buckets. The most striking feature of the Uranium is the oversized 24 inch rims.
