The concept of a four-door coupe didn’t initially appeal to us, but you have to admit that in action at the Nurburgring, the Mercedes-Benz CLS looks stunning. Especially in full AMG trim: this is the CLS 65 AMG.
Fitted with the same engine as the CL 65 AMG - a 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 delivering 612bhp, 738lb ft of torque and sub-4.5 second 0-60mph acceleration - and AMG Speedshift five-speed auto transmission, it’s likely to be one of the ultimate super-coupe purchases of the next few years. Even if it does have two doors too many.
The twin exhaust pipe pairs indicate that this hot AMG-tuned version packs a supercharged 5.5-litre V8 under the bonnet. The one you see here is the short-wheelbase five-seater, though a seven-seat LWB version will beef up the range. Suspension has been lowered for testing on the Nurburgring here.
