2009 Mercedes R-Class Grand Edition

  Review

In their tradition of being larger than life, the German automaker Mercedes Benz has just released a Grand Edition of their R-Class SUV. This upscale model includes some fine touches that take luxury to the next level. Although the grand R-Class’s appears similar to the standard model, changes to the interior and exterior set it apart from the rest of the Mercedes lineup vehicles.

The Grand Edition is upgraded with bi-xenon headlamps, chrome-framed LED daytime driving lamps, 20 inch AMG designed light-weight two tone alloy wheels, an AMG ergonomic steering wheel with gearshift paddles and a set of classy sports pedals for the driver. Mercedes will make the Grand Edition available to the public in autumn for the small sum of €3,300, a small price to pay to set yourself apart from the crowd.

Press release after the jump.

All engine and wheelbase versions of the R-Class (including the BlueTEC version) are also available in the especially extravagant “Grand Edition” equipment variant. This model, which also will become available in autumn 2009, will feature, among other things, exclusive 20-inch AMG bicolour light-alloy wheels as well as thermally insulated blue windows all-round.

The vehicle’s special outfit is supplemented by bi-xenon headlamps with dynamic active light and cornering light functions, chrome-framed LED daytime driving lamps integrated into the front bumper and taillights in a dark sporty design. The interior features decorative wood trim made of anthracite-coloured poplar with chrome applications as well as the “Grand Edition” nameplate, the AMG ergonomic steering wheel with gearshift paddles, and sports pedals made of brushed stainless steel with rubber nobs. This equipment package can be ordered immediately for €3,300 plus VAT.

It looks like Mercedes-Benz keeps on failing to improve the appearance of the R-Class. This is also true with the carmaker’s effort with a new package dubbed Grand Edition which can be ordered in the European market for 3,300 Euros ($4,400) plus taxes.

In contrary to that, I think that the classic wheels of Mercedes gave it a nice good old touch that would still make a difference despite being surrounded with other Mercedes car.

Although the wheels were upgraded, became bigger... It doesn’t seem appealing to me. It just looks like any other Mercedes wheels only bigger...
