Noted Mercedes->ke187 tuning company, Carlsson, has been far busier than usual these past few weeks. Of course, with the Frankfurt Motor Show scheduled in a month's time, everybody is pretty busy in the auto industry these days.

For their part, Carlsson has dropped the details on one of their IAA-bound vehicles, the Mercedes GL-Class Grand Edition "CGL45". With upgrades being done across the board, Carlsson's new program for the GL-Class Grand Edition offers plenty of improvements. For starters, the SUV's body package comes from high-quality PUR-Rim plastic, the wheel arches have been made wider, and there's a new chrome radiator grille complemented by mesh inserts. On top of that, the tuning company also added an impressive lighting set-up that features a couple of double light units wand LED daytime running lights on the front spoiler. Rounding out the exterior package are a set of 22" 1/5 Evo Brilliant Edition five-spoke alloy wheels and a suspension kit that drops the SUV's ride height by 30 mm.

Inside, Carlsson gave the GL-Class Grand Edition a variety of goodies, including Nappa leather, Alcantara, stainless steel, and wood trimmings. There are also embossed illuminated sill plates and unique numbered and signed plaques on the center console for each model.

As far as the engine is concerned, the GL-Class Grand Edition received a notable bump in power, thanks to the tuner's own C-Tronic power unit. The resulting upgrade took the SUV's 5.5-liter V8 engine on the GL500 from an output of 388 horsepower and 391 lb/ft of torque all the way up to 435 horsepower and 442 lb/ft of torque.
