2011 Mercedes C63 AMG Affalterbach Edition

  Review

While Americans are making their way along the Detroit Auto Show floor, Canadians are also taking part of a show of their own: the Montreal International Auto Show. It was here that Mercedes decided to appropriately displayed the C63 AMG Affalterbach Edition, a special edition specially created for the Canadian market. There will be only 30 units built of this model, each priced at $81,500 (or around $82,360 USD).

This special edition not only features unique styling cues, but it also has an impressive list of special equipment that have never before been offered on a Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG. It comes painted in MAGNO Allanite Grey and will be distinguished by high-performance AMG brakes with red calipers, 19" AMG multi-spoke alloy wheels in black, carbon-fiber mirror housings, and a rear lip spoiler.

The Mercedes C63 AMG Affalterbach Edition will be offered with the AMG Premium Package that adds an extra 30 HP and removes the speed limiter. Looks pretty cool, but we’re just having trouble pronouncing its name!

Hit the jump to read more about the 2011 Mercedes C63 AMG Affalterbach Edition.

Exterior and Interior

The exterior will be painted in designo MAGNO Allanite Grey and will be distinguished by high-performance AMG brakes with red calipers, 19" AMG multi-spoke alloy wheels in black, carbon-fiber mirror housings and a rear lip spoiler.

For the interior, Mercedes will place an Affalterbach logo on both the gearshift lever and the headrests, and the sports seats will be covered in black AMG Nappa leather contrasting with red stitching. It will get the usual AMG carbon-fiber trim, floor mats with red leather piping, and a special Affalterbach Edition badge which identifies every car with its unique "1 of 30" designation.

The list of standard equipment will include: a rear view camera, PARKTRONIC, COMAND APS with HDD Navigation and DVD Changer, multi-media interface, rear window sunshade, harman/kardon LOGIC7 surround sound system, and KEYLESS-GO.

Engine

The new special C63 AMG Affalterbach Edition is powered by the hand-built, 6.2 L V8 engine that delivers a total of 481 HP and 443 lb-ft of torque. Equipped with the AMG Performance Package it will get an additional 30 HP and will have the speed limiter removed. The sprint from 0 to 60 mph is made in 4.4 seconds.

The Price

Mercedes Canada will only offer 30 units of this special edition, each priced at $81,500 (or around $82,360 USD) and only sold in Canada.

The Competition

The list of competitors includes the usual BMW M3 and the Cadillac CTS-V. The current M3 delivers a total of 420 HP, while the CTS-V is powered by a supercharged V8 with an impressive 556 HP.

Considering the C63 AMG Affalterbach Edition is only be offered in 30 units, we’d be hard-pressed to find someone that would rather go after that vehicle than one of the models listed above. The fact that the Cadillac pumps out more horsepower also works against the Mercedes.

- Impressive equipment package
- Nice wheel design
- AMG Premium Package

- Only available in Canada
- Limited to only 30 units
- Kind of expensive

No wonder why this price reached up to this high at $82,360 and will be sold only in Canada. That’s bad as of now.

The exterior actually feels a bit too plain. But that one is really no worry, since they have more than made up for it with the amount of performance that they have put into the car.

On the other hand,Mercedes is absolutely cool not only for the physical appearance itself but most especially the convenient way of carrying the equipment handling this.

Lately I have seen allot of cars, modified, with very good materials but very expensive.

My question is... are the buyers for this or they just want to catch the attention of the masses over a brand or another!

Very nice car and the engine performance is quite good. The problem is that for that price you can do much better than this smiley

I love the Affalterbach badging on the headrests and shift knob. I wish they’d put them elsewhere on the car as well, it’s too good to not have.

A friend of mine has a company right next to AMG in Affalterbach. He’s loaned them part of his parking space because regular employees don’t have enough space anymore (because of the dozens of SLS AMGs littering the sidewalk*).
