2012 Mercedes B-Class

Mercedes officially unveiled the new generation B-Class in Germany at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. The new model has received a completely redesigned exterior and interior design, as well as a new engine line-up.

The Mercedes B-Class is the larger of the company’s two compact models, the smaller model being the A-Class. It has undergone significant changes to gain some attention out on the market, including redesigned front and rear ends. The aerodynamic changes provide a significant improvement, allowing the B-Class to deliver an outstanding drag coefficient of 0.26.

Power for the 2012 Mercedes B-Class consists of a new four-cylinder petrol engine with direct injection and turbocharging and a new diesel engine. These engines come with a new dual clutch transmission, a new manual transmission, and new assistance systems.

The new B-Class will go on sale in November 2011.

Exterior

Mercedes B-Class

The B-Class never received a lot of attention out on the market, but things should change significantly with the modifications it has undergone. It now sits at 1557 mm (61 inches), which is about 50.8 mm (2 inches) shorter than its predecessor. It also sits 20 mm (.78 inches) lower with its new sports suspension.

Mercedes has opted for a new front and rear design, with a wide, prominent grille and new headlamps that now extend along the sides at the front. The rear end gets a wide rear window, two-piece tail lights with horizontally offset meander, and a large tailgate with a low loading sill.

Mercedes has also tried to improve on the aerodynamics of the B-Class to offer the best in its class. The bonnet has been tweaked to flow seamlessly into the A-pillar and the roof line descends sleekly to the striking roof spoiler, to give the new B-Class an outstanding drag coefficient of 0.26.

Interior

Mercedes B-Class

The interior for the new B-Class has also been modified significantly and despite the fact that the new B-Class has been lowered by almost five centimeters, it offers more interior space than before. The sitting position is more upright and the headroom has been further improved, making the B-Class one of the most spacious cars in its segment.

As far as details go, the B-Class features a large, three-dimensional decorative element spanning the entire dashboard, which is covered with stitched Artico man-made leather. The dashboard features three large circular vents in the center, unique grilles, and a high quality screen with sleek dimensions.

The new B-Class gets a 3-spoke steering wheel that incorporates a silver chrome insert in the middle spoke, an instrument cluster with four analogue round dials, and suspended pointers in 6 o’clock position. The seats finish off the look with contrasting stitching to reinforce the car’s sporty image.

Customers will be able to choose between four equipment packages - Chrome, Sports, Exclusive, and Night - to customize the B-Class in any which way they desire.

Engine

Mercedes B-Class

The Mercedes B-Class now boasts of a new four-cylinder petrol engine, as well as a new four-cylinder diesel engine. The petrol engine will be offered in two versions - 122 HP and 156 HP - and the diesel engine will also receive two versions - 109 HP and 136 HP. The two engines will be mated to either a new 7G-DCT dual clutch transmission or a new 6-speed manual transmission. The 7G system is an electric oil pump that works an ECO start/stop function and comes standard on all B-Class models.

Prices

The new Mercedes B-Class will go on sale in Europe in November 2011. Prices will be announced at a later date.

Competition

Mercedes B-Class

The new Mercedes B-Class has been designed as a direct competitor for models like the Audi A3 and the BMW 1-Series .

The Audi A3 is offered with five gasoline engines and four diesel engines. Outputs range from 105 HP in the entry level 1.2 TFSI version to 265 HP in the 2.0 TFSI version. The BMW 1-Series is also offered with a new range of four-cylinder petrol engines and three radically redesigned four-cylinder diesel units, with power going up to 184 HP.

The question remaining is if Mercedes has finally found the solution to make their B-Class stand out in front of these two models. We’ll just need to wait a few more months to get an answer to this question!

Although this 2012 Mercedes B-Class offers new transmission, improved engine line-up and better quality interior, the competitors offer more versions and superb features and it was still boring.

I love the design on this B-Class! It looks classy and elegant on that. It’s great either that it has an impressive two horsepower which is really awesome for this future vehicle.

The most impressive hatchback that I saw though this Mercedes B-Class had a simple platform and design it still oozing with an appeal. And I’m glad that it had an improved engine.

Well, I have to say that I’m really impressed with the styling of the car. Although, I’m not sure if they on how it will perform. I hope to read more updates for this car.

Honestly, I was impressed with the of its interior and I think its kind of elegant.
Well, I guess this is one of the car that we need to look forward in the opening of Frankfurt Motor Sport Show.

The styling is kind of great and I would say that due to its elegant I’m really impressed with the awesomeness of the car.

Well, I like the decent and luxurious styling of the vehicle. I wonder on what will be the figure performance of the B class car.

This is going to be few months hereafter. People should be ready for its market debut. By the way, I do like the changes they have made in the vehicle’s interior. The car is detailed and very spacious.

I still prefer the performance of the rear- wheel drive for it offer a balance handling and acceleration. Hey! Who said that this vehicle doesn’t offer a better fuel economy? However, with the luxurious and comfortable styling of the car I bet it would be an awesome choice for family car.

This car is a enlarged version of A-class and its uses a front-wheel drive. The advantage was the offer a better fuel economy for its reduced sized. However, the handling of the car is not balance though its power output may increase up to 250 hp.
