2013 Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe

Back in 2008, Mercedes was looking to expand its market to include the younger population and they decided that the best way to do that was to offer a C-Class Coupe alternative. That project led to the birth of the CLC whose success in the market was more lackluster than bedazzled. Now, Mercedes is at it again with a much more simple approach to meeting the needs of the younger generation. This simple - in the best sense of the word - vehicle is the C-Class Coupe , and Mercedes is even taking a stab at an AMG version. This is certainly a good thing because, well, the BMW M3 Coupe needs a real competitor, right?

The new C63 AMG Coupe will join the current AMG Coupe and will be put on sale this July in Europe, while on the US market sales will begin in September 2011. The first units will be sold as the "Edition 1" and will be offered with exclusive equipments.

UPDATE 05/24/2012: Mercedes’ "Thank You - 2 Million Times" video generated some positive feedback and many people have requested to see the uninterrupted drift footage. Questions were even asked as to if the C 63 AMG Coupe actually drifted the corkscrew or if it was creative editing. Mercedes is offering the answer to this question with a new video. Enjoy!

Exterior

Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe

Like with all the other AMG models, the C63 AMG Coupe is defined by an aggressive, sporty look. The sports coupe will get an AMG front bumper, AMG radiator grille with a chrome inserts, a specific AMG bonnet, AMG-specific LED daytime running lights, side skirts, and a rear bumper with diffuser insert. The sporty character will be accentuated by an AMG sports exhaust with two chromed twin oval tailpipes. There will also be a ride lowered by around 40 millimeters, a sports suspension, and speed-sensitive AMG sports steering.

The car will be defined by low profile, powerful shoulderline and a narrow C-pillar. Other key styling aspects are the short overhang, long bonnet, steeply raked windscreen and long, stretched out roof. The wide front wing will get the "6.3 AMG" legend, while the car will sit on new 5-twin-spoke AMG light-alloy wheels painted in titanium grey with a high-gloss finish.

Interior

For the interior, AMG will offer AMG door sills, AMG sports seats, AMG performance steering wheel in nappa leather on the top and bottom flattened with aluminum gearshift paddles and AMG instruments, including an AMG race timer and start screen. The interior will be upholstered in a faux leather combination ARTICO/fabric or optional designo leather (one or two tone). There will also be an electronic rotary switch for selecting the four driving modes and the Race Start function.

The specially shaped AMG performance steering wheel has been adopted from the CLS 63 AMG. It has flattened top and bottom sections, a metallic trim element, grip areas which are trimmed in perforated leather, and aluminum shift paddles. Trim elements in high-gloss, black piano lacquer on the dashboard instrument panel, center console and doors emphasize high quality. Situated on the center console is the rotary control for selecting the C, S, S+, M transmission modes and RACE START.

Engine

Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe

Like with the sedan version, and despite previous speculations, the C63 AMG Coupe will use the same 6.2 liter V8 engine with a total output of 457 HP. Customers will also have the choice of opting for a performance package that will increase the total output to 487 HP. The C63 AMG Coupe will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and in 4.4 second with the AMG performance package.

The engine will be mated to AMG’s new SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC transmission that offers three different modes: "S" (Sport), " C" (Comfort), and "M" (Manual).

One Minute, Pure Sound

When Can We Buy It?

On the European market sales will begin in July at a starting price of €72,590 ($102,500 at the current exchange rates) or €77,231 ($109,100) for the "Edition 1". Prices for the US market will be announced at a later date.

Competition

Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe

The greatest competitor for the future C63 AMG Coupe will be the BMW M3 Coupe . The Bavarian model develops a total of 414 HP and is priced at $58,400, so we expect a similar price tag for the Mercedes Mercedes model. While Mercedes has revealed no official images on the new C63 AMG Coupe, we want to believe it will get the same look as the sedan version, adapted to a coupe model of course. If this is true, then it will make the Merc better looking than the current M3, on both interior and exterior. However, BMW is already preparing the next generation M3, so the question is: does Mercedes have enough to smash the success the M3 is already having on the market?

One thing that I really fdind missing on this one is the engine upgrade that they were supposed to gibe it. I think they are going to stick with the standard engine for this one.

Yeah, the interior is what also caught me on this one. I really like how it looks well organized. And it seems to be rather spacious too, which is very good.

Wow, I am impressed with the way that the interior was done. Those lines are actually very clean and the way that they have arranged the the instruments on the panel is also a nice touch.

Yeah, you’re right. That color is really quite dazzling . And I would agreed that it would be a good idea for them to include it in the color palette that they will be offering for the C63.

As expected, the new C63 is really looking great. That silver paint job on the car in the video is really a nice touch for this one. I hope they would offer that one for the release of this car.

hmm. I don’t think that this car look somewhat low profile. IMO,AMG is the most beautiful series that was created by Mercedes. I can see the collaboration of modern styling and powerful engine.

I really loved to see a luxury car being dressed up with white paint job! It really shows the elegance of the car. BTW, I have noticed that they made it kind of long wheel based version. the bonnet is longer though it doesn’t ruined the classy look of this car.

As expected this car has an elegant styling. However, its kind of depressing that its has a limited top speed and they will not be offering other option for the engine.

But I am starting to have high hopes on this one. I was actually able to drive one of their previous generation coupes, and I am not really that impressed with that one.

Well, let’s wait and see until they finally unveil this one. Then we will see if this actually performs as expected. But for now, lets just appreciate the beauty of this one.

This one definitely looks promising, the interior alone is certainly something that I am really marveling at. The performance numbers are also rather impressive.

I think Mercedes is not consistent about their production because sometimes they come up with a crap one. However, this new model I think is a good one, it has a powerful engine compare to its competitor plus the interior looks luxurious as well.

Yeah, you’re right this one is certainly looking better than the previous coupe that they have made. It seems that they have really learned a lot from that one and are now making a good headway.

They have definitely come a long way from the CLC with this new one. The C63 is certainly much more well designed, let’s just hope that it also performs much better.

The C63 is actually looking good on this video. As expected actually. From the first time that I have seen this car, I knew that it would be quite outstanding.

Having a cooperation between Mercedes and Ducati, I wonder why they’re not using the real sound of a Ducati in the ad.
Would it divert attention from the car engine sound? smiley

The front is perhaps the most attractive section of this car. That huge Mercedes logo alone is enough to keep you staring on this one for quite a while.

Well, the thing does have a lot of new features, which would really be great. I certainly hope that Mercedes will be able to make it big on this one.

Yup, this one is definitely looking good, both the exterior and the interior looks great. The engine output is a bit small, though not really a matter of concern.

As expected from Mercedes, they come with the luxurious coupe
! The interior really looks gorgeous with that carbon fiber materials being used, and now
it comes up with more amazing performance! However, I’m really hoping for a biturbo and unlimited top speedsmiley
