After displaying one image of the new generation G-Class->ke1712 secretly or accidentally in the official picture gallery of the new GLK-Class, Mercedes->ke187 has finally decided to drop the official details on the new G-Class. The car has been heavily modified and includes a new interior with exquisite materials, a completely redesigned instrument cluster and center console, and some minor changes for the exterior.

The line-up now includes a new G63 AMG powered by an eight-cylinder biturbo engine combined with an ECO start/stop system and a new G65 AMG model featuring a new V12 biturbo engine.

"Our G-Class has been a force to be reckoned with for the last 33 years. In its latest evolutionary stage, it offers state-of-the-art, powerful engines, a further improved range of luxurious appointments and the very latest safety features, as well, of course, as its now legendary off-road capabilities. At the same time the design remains true to its down-to-earth, unmistakable style," said Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars.

Exterior and Interior

Since Mercedes wanted to keep the essence of the G-Class, the list of exterior modifications is small, only including new LED daytime running lamps and new exterior mirrors. The AMG versions will also receive a new, characteristic AMG radiator grille with double louvers and distinctive new bumpers with large air intakes. The car will be offered for the first time with new 20" wheels combined with red brake calipers.

The interior, on the other hand, has received more than its fair share of updates. The instrument panel and center console have been completely redesigned and now include new controls and generously proportioned, exclusively designed trim elements. The driver will get all the info he needs from a new TFT color display combined with a large color screen - part of the COMAND Online system.

All of the new G-Class models will be offered with a standard navigation system with special additional off-road functions, LINGUATRONIC voice-operated control system, and Bluetooth wireless connectivity. As an option, customers can choose between DISTRONIC PLUS, Blind Spot Assist, and the parking aid PARKTRONIC with reversing camera.

Engine

For the new G-Class, Mercedes is offering two standard models - the G 350 BlueTEC and the G500 - and two AMG models - the G63 AMG and the G65 AMG. The basic version, the G350, features a 3.0 liter V6 diesel engine that delivers a total of 211 HP at 3400 rpm and a peak torque of 398 lb-ft delivered between 1600 to 2400 rpm. The G500 is powered by a 5.5-liter V8 petrol engine that delivers an impressive 388 HP and a peak torque of 390 lb-ft. The two versions will be offered with a standard 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission.

The G63 AMG gets a V8 biturbo engine with 544 HP and 560 lb-ft of torque, which features the ECO start/stop system as standard. The G65 AMG features a V12 biturbo engine that delivers a total of 612 HP and 737 lb-ft of torque, making this the most powerful series-produced cross-country vehicle in the world.
