Exterior and Interior

Compared to the other G-Class AMG model - the G63 AMG - the new G65 AMG will be distinguished by a high-gloss chrome radiator grille and a new set of 20" 9.5 x 20 AMG five-spoke light alloy wheels, painted titanium grey with high-sheen finish and wrapped in 275/50 R 20 tires. Other features on the exterior include a V12 BITURBO logo on the mudguards.

The interior will also be a bit different when compared to the G63 AMG. It received a designo leather exclusive upholstery and leather instrument panel trim, as well as an exclusive AMG V12 BITURBO animation. The seats will feature a distinctively V12 diamond design and an AMG medallion on the headrests. The same distinctive upholstery will be used on the door central panels and will be combined with a black piano lacquer designo trim and designo foot mats with a V12 badge.

Customers who want even more will be able to opt for an AMG Performance Studio package that includes AMG light alloy wheels, painted matte black with high-sheen rim flanges.

Engine

The Mercedes G65 AMG is powered by one of the most powerful engines ever featured for a Mercedes model: an AMG 6.0-liter V12 biturbo engine that delivers a total of 612 HP and a peak torque of 737 lbs-ft. These numbers transform the G65 AMG into the most powerful production off-road vehicle.

The V12 engine is mated to an AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G‑TRONIC automatic transmission system. This combination sprints the car from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.3 seconds, while top speed is limited to 142 mph.

This impressive V12 biturbo engine features new exhaust turbochargers with increased spiral cross-section, flow-optimized wastegate channels, multi-spark ignition with twelve double-ignition coils, and a higher-power engine control unit.

Prices

The new Mercedes G65 AMG is priced at 264,180 euro, or about $346,000 at the current exchange rates. Sales will begin in June 2012.

Competition

With such a high price, it's pretty difficult to find a real competitor for the new G65 AMG. One of the most powerful and most expensive SUVs on the market is the Porsche Cayenne Turbo. It delivers a total output of 500 HP - 112 HP less than the G65 AMG - but it is only priced at $104,800. It also has the advantage of delivering better performance numbers: 0 to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 172 mph.
