When it comes to beefed-up Mercedes-Benz->ke187 vehicles, very few companies can match the the brilliance of Brabus->ke368 or Lorinser->ke3149. Their offerings are always unique and hit the streets with enough horsepower to put more than a few sports cars->ke506 to shame and make them crawl back to their fancy garages.

However, both companies tend to overdo some of their projects, with several results looking like pimped out cars that wear more chutzpah than we can handle. Just have a look at Lorinser's take on the 2014 S-Class or its Easybrid package for the Smart ForTwo->ke1744 and you'll understand what we mean.

Unlike those tuning houses, Carlsson->ke1696 uses a slightly milder and more attractive approach. Aside from the exaggerated bumper seen on the 2014 CLA, its creations are usually balanced and come with a healthy dose of seriousness attached to them. Actually, a few Carlssons can be labeled as sleepers waiting to unleash enormous amounts of horsepower over an unsuspecting victim.

The same can be said about the tuner's most recent creation, the CE30. Based on the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the Carlsson-badged sedan->ke142 is only a tad more aggressive than its standard kin in terms of visual updates, but it can churn out more than 500 horsepower.

Mercedes E-Class CE30 by Carlsson in detail

Visually, the CE30 sports a number of subtle, yet effective improvements. The sedan's front fascia differs only slightly, with an RS spoiler lip fitted beneath the bumper and a prancing horse logo mounted where the three-pointed star resides on the standard model. Around back, the apron incorporates a Lorinser diffuser, while the bumper is designed to allow a two-tone paintjob. Adding to the car's unique appearance is a range of 18- to 20-inch wheels finished in various designs and colors.

The renowned Lorinser craftsmanship looms into the cabin as well, where everything gets re-trimmed in fine leather and Alcantara. The soft-touch surfaces, as well as the wood, carbon-fiber, or aluminum inlays are available in several custom hues that can't be had via Mercedes-Benz or its in-house AMG division->ke8.

Moving over to powertrains, the German->ke2091 tuner has several upgrades on offer, covering the entire E-Class lineup. The V-6 model, for instance, can be upgraded to 385 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, while the range-topping V-8-powered version can generate as much as 523 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque via ECU remapping. Besides getting quicker from 0 to 60 mph, both sedans can reach higher top speeds of up to 186 mph.
