Edo Competition->ke1427 has made a business out of building aftermarket programs for some of the finest European cars in the world. But it's been a while since the German tuner->ke1987 developed a program for a Mercedes->ke187, let alone the obnoxious G63 AMG. But we work in an industry of surprises, so by essence, Edo's new program for the high-powered utility->ke2925 really is a welcome addition.

If it's power you're looking for, the Mercedes G63 AMG has you covered. Still, some vehicles can't have enough of it, and Edo Competition has that covered.

That's par for the course for an aftermarket specialist like Edo Competition. It's built an impressive lineup of programs that have turned sports cars->ke506 into supercars->ke177. Just ask the Porsche 911 Turbo S, the BMW M5, and yes, even the mighty Ferrari Enzo.

This program for the G63 AMG is another feather in the tuner's cap that's already full of it. Or as some would call it, just another day in the life of Edo Competition.

Mercedes G63 AMG By Edo Competition in detail

The real highlight of Edo's program for the G63 AMG is the performance kit, which includes an impressive lineup of components like a newly developed sports exhaust system, sports catalysts, V Max override, and optimized electronics. With these upgrades, the results are pretty dramatic, particularly with the incredible increase in output. From the G63 AMG's standard 544 PS (536 horsepower) and 561 pound-feet of torque figures, Edo Competition was able to increase the output to an incredible 600 PS (592 horsepower) and 663 pound-feet of torque.

No performance numbers were given but it's reasonable to expect an improved 0-to-60-mph time of five seconds, 0.4 seconds faster than the standard 5.3-second time and a top speed of about 140 mph, up from the standard 130 mph.

Outside of the performance kit, the program's new back-pressure-monitored sports exhaust system plays a pretty important role, too. It's made completely from stainless steel, so you know it's going to be as sturdy as the beastly SUV. More importantly, the driver can program the system to suit his needs by way of 70-mm valves.

Likewise, a new ceramic brake system was also installed. The accompanying discs measure 15.66 inches up front and 14.96 inches out back, helping drive the heavy and powerful SUV to a stop.

The lack of any significant exterior changes was made up for by an interior that features numerous carbon-fiber applications, as well as a nice dose of leather. These materials combine with other high-quality items to create a meaningful cabin that conveys the owner's personality.
