In 2006, Mercedes realized that some buyers need four doors, but also want the sleek design of a coupe. With this realization, the German automaker released the CLS-Class Coupe, a four-door car with a coupe-like roofline. In 2012, the CLS-Class received a full overhaul and for 2015, the CLS-Class is receiving a new Sport Package.

One package apparently isn't enough for the Mercedes CLS-Class->ke539. Around the same time Mercedes->ke187 announced the Night Package for its resident luxury sedan, the German automaker also went out and launched the Sport Package for the same model. Why make one awesome package when you can make two, right?

What makes the Sport Package different from the Night Package is the focus put on improving the CLS-Class' mechanical components. A new Direct Control sports suspension makes an appearance to enhance handling without killing comfort. The package also features a new dual-exhaust system with stainless-steel tailpipes and larger front brake discs paired with "Mercedes-Benz"-stamped calipers.

That's as far as the upgrades go for the Sport Package. There are also wheel options available, but overall, It's admittedly a little underwhelming compared to the Night Package. The good news is that the Sport Package is available for all versions of the CLS-Class except the CLS 500 and AMG lines.

Mercedes-Benz CLS with Sport Package in detail

While the Night Package was mostly limited to just cosmetic and wheel upgrades, the Sport Package falls more on the performance and handling side of the CLS.

The Mercedes CLS-Class Sports Package also comes with a choice of two wheel options, namely a set of Himalaya Gray-finished, 18-inch, twin-spoke alloy wheels that come standard with the package. As an added option, the German automaker also offers a set of 19-inch wheels that can be customized in a variety of designs depending on a customer's preference.

Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class

The Mercedes CLS-Class was first introduced to American buyers in 2006 and in the time that it has been around, the luxury sedan has evolved into one of Mercedes’ most popular models. It's no secret that the CLS-Class' integration of sporty aggression with luxury style has played a big part in the model's rise in approval ratings.

While we give props to the model's high-caliber design, it's important to pay equal homage to the variety of engine options it has. The CLS is offered with plenty of powertrain choices, the first of which is a 2.1-liter, four-cylinder, diesel engine that produces 204 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. A 3.0-liter V-6 is also offered with output numbers at 333 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. Finally, a 4.7-liter V-8 comes with 408 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque.
