The venerable Mercedes-Benz G-Class->ke1712 is celebrating 35 years of uninterrupted production in 2014, and the Germans are celebrating the milestone with a special-edition->ke2041 SUV. The G-Wagen has soldiered on largely unchanged since its introduction in 1979, a feat that not even the Land Rover Defender->ke1858 has managed to achieve, with the British SUV->ke145 discontinued after 32 years on the market. Mercedes has all the reasons to celebrate and its vehicle of choice for this special occasion is the G-Class Edition 35.

As with most special edition Mercs, the G-Class Edition 35 comes with everything a regular and very capable G-Class has to offer, but with a few exterior and interior goodies on top. Special, Designo-made paints, exciting color contrasts and a bespoke interior is what makes the Edition 35 a cool SUV to own.

The only downside to it is that you can't buy it in the United States. Read on to see what you're missing unless you live in Germany.

Mercedes-Benz G-Class Edition 35 in detail

The Edition 35's most notable exterior feature is the bespoke Mystic White Bright paint that comes from the very expensive Designo palette. The hue provides an exciting contrast with Obsidian Black Metallic bumpers, wheel arch linings, mirrors and roof, as well as with the bright-black, 18-inch, five-spoke alloy wheels. Customers that aren't particularly thrilled by a white exterior but still want to benefit from the contrast offered by the black body parts can have their SUV finished in the more common Palladium Silver Metallic. If that's not subtle enough, Mercedes also offers an Obsidian Black Metallic exterior that gives the SUV a shadowy, triple-black appearance.

Speaking of appearance, the Edition 35 is also equipped with the company's Sports Package, which includes AMG wheel-arch flaring, and a Chrome Package that adds chrome highlights in the radiator grille.

The interior of the SUV mirrors the exclusivity of the exterior by means of high-grade leather upholstery and appointment options. Two different interiors are offered, both borrowed from the Designo line. Customers can choose between a two-tone Porcelain/Black combo or a single-tone black layout. Both options come with red contrast stitching, lacquered Black Piano trim and a Black Dinamica microfiber roof lining. Other exclusive features not available on the regular G-Class include a leather-covered dashboard and an AMG sports steering wheel.

Pricing for the Edition 35 begins from €101,031 in Germany, which is $127,959 as of 10/14/2014. The sticker includes a 19% VAT and nets you the G350 BlueTEC version. The G500, which comes with a sports exhaust system, fetches €112,812 including VAT ($142,985).
