Mercedes CLA 45 AMG

The fact that both the new Mercedes A45 and CLA45 AMG models are enjoying a great success should be no surprise to anyone. After all this is the first time AMG is offering reasonable priced cars and also is the first time an AMG model is offered by an inline-four engine.

In a recent interview with Motoring, Mercedes-Benz AMG boss Tobias Moers confirmed that the company itself was a little bit surprised by the huge success the two models are enjoying: "For sure when you enter a new segment there is much interest. I was not surprised at the success of the cars... Well, maybe a little surprised... But the feedback from the distributors around the world for the next year [and beyond] – that was very surprising."

As a result, AMG will have to increase production to meet the expectations around the globe. You also have to keep in mind that next year Mercedes plans to introduce the new GLA 45 AMG model that will boost sales even more.

Moers also confirmed that the two models will not receive a Black Series version, because Black Series will be kept exclusive for the two-door models.

The Mercedes C63 AMG is power and luxury all rolled into one. But even with its billing as one of Mercedes’ more popular AMG-powered models, the C63 still has enough room in it to be treated to a nice little upgrade.

That’s where British aftermarket company Mulgari comes into the picture.

Technically, Mulgari’s program for the C63 AMG doesn’t qualify as just a nice "little upgrade". The company worked on this baby for a long time and recently, it was time to give the re-christened Mulgari C63 510 its official debut.

The program itself constitutes a steady diet of aesthetic, aerodynamic, and performance upgrades. The first part involves giving the C63 AMG new aerodynamic components to give the sports sedan better performance to complement the improvements added to the engine. Carbon front and rear aerodynamic additions are part of the package, all of which helps in channel airflow throughout the car. A full stainless steel exhaust system with active valves was also installed while badgind and serial plaques were placed throughout the car to ensure that nobody mistakes the C63 510 with any other C63 AMG.

Under its hood, the Mercedes sports sedan received quite the upgrade, bumping up the output from the car’s 6.2-liter V-8 engine from the standard 450 horsepower and 422 pound-feet of torque numbers to a pretty impressive 510 horsepower and 521 pound-feet of torque, good enough to improve the output from the electronically-limited 155 mph to a not-anymore-electronically-limited 174 mph.

Taken all together, the Mulgari C63 510 is an impressive aftermarket build coming from a company that knows what its doing when it gets its hands on a C63 AMG.

The new CLA-Class is by far the coolest model launched by Mercedes in the past few years, so is no wonder that it is already enjoying a great success from tuners.

We have seen quite a few tuning kits ever since the model was dropped on the market, and the latest one comes today from the German tuner Vath Automobiltechnik.

As usual the kit offered by Vath includes updates to both the exterior and the interior of the car, but the most important one is being made under the hood. By remapping the engine electronics, adding a new sports exhaust system and installing a new air filter system the tuner managed to increase the four-cylinder’s output from 208 to 265 horsepower.

As a result the CLA 250 will now sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds and up to a top speed of 155 mph.

An increased output requires a more aggressive stance on the road, so the tuner is also offering a club sports coilovers that allows lowering the car’s ride by 20 (0.78 inches) to 65 millimeters (2.55 inches).

With falling sales and stiff competition from the BMW 7-Series and the Audi A8 , Mercedes is looking to revamp its S-Class line for the 2014 model year. The model has been caught testing in many times and was teased even more, but today Mercedes finally unveiled in all its glory.

As expected, the 2014 S-Class adopted the same design language we have seen in all the recently launched Mercedes models, which was started by the 2010 Mercedes F800 Style Concept . Translated, this means the new S-Class received sharper lines, a sportier front fascia, a larger grille and a redesigned rear end.

The model grew in size, so it now offers improved interior room where the passengers can enjoy the highest-quality materials, luxurious wood trim, a metallic switchgear and stitched-leather accents.

Germany was actually a very humble place in all the interwar and post-war periods of the twentieth century. These hard-working people loved industry from the clang of first steel horseshoe on stone streets.

In 1934, a Mercedes Silver Arrow W25 won the famous Klausenpass hill-climb event, plus four other important races.

The SIlver Arrow’s sleek styling and high-speed mission was the Pagani Zonda R of its time. Or perhaps the Bloodhound SSC .

The Klausenpass hill climb is 14 miles long and in 1934 the Silver Arrow managed to run it in 15 minutes and 22.2 seconds.

Now, Mercedes in and IWC Watches have teamed up to recreate the famous run on the Swiss Alpine course.

IWC, sharp-eyed readers may recall, makes the elegant new boxed timepiece in the center of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S-Model driven earlier this week.

The video begins with Mercedes-Benz’s resident F1 hero. Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton and the Silver Arrow are just about the epitome of modern, thriving and also deeply humble Germany.

The W25 prepared for the 1934 season weighted only 750 kilos (1653 pounds) and was powered by a supercharged Straight-8 M25 engine with an output of 300 horsepower. The W25 remained into the racing world until 1937, during which period it was updated with a more powerful 4.3 liter supercharged inline-eight engine with an output of 490 horsepower.

Mercedes-Benz is not offering a Black Series variant for its CLS four-door coupe ; at least not yet.

Until the company decides to make the CLS even sportier and more aggressive, aftermarket tuning companies are stepping in to fill the void.

Prior Design just revealed a new PD550 package for the CLS-Class to add some AMG Black Series-inspired styling elements. The kit can be applied to all the models in the second generation, and, as usual, it contains elements made from Dura-Flex glass-fiber reinforced plastic (FRP).

This special material is characterized by an excellent surface finish that makes it easy to paint to exact Mercedes-Benz colors, sufficient strength to improve high-speed stability and the flexibility to be almost as durable over speed bumps as OEM parts.

Thanks to the new PD550 kit, the CLS now features an aggressive front fascia combined with that cool titanium graphite exterior paint. A set of wheels is the final touch to create the CLS of your dreams.

Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class

A few days ago, our spy photographers caught the next-generation Mercedes GLK for the first time on German roads. Today, our spy photographers managed to catch it again, and this time they caught it up close, giving us a better look at the upcoming SUV .

The prototype looks to be a little more than halfway through its development, so it still has plenty of camouflage hiding its goodies. Even with the heavy camo, it’s clear that the new GLK will be a bit larger than the current generation, so it will likely have more space for passengers and luggage.

The GLK will be built on the same platform as the soon-to-be-revealed C-Class, and it will finally drop the awkwardly proportioned, boxy style, and adopt a more rounded and refined crossover shape. We can’t express how happy we are to see that old body style hitting the scrap heap, as it is simply goofy looking.

From the C-Class it will borrow the engine lineup, so Mercedes will offer it with gasoline and diesel engines, with the possibility of a hybrid version.

The new GLK is expected to be unveiled sometime in 2015.

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG is finally out of its doldrums of quad-oval lights and messy body kits. The AMG Hammer is well and truly reborn with this latest generation of ultra-fast, luxurious and stylish new E63 models.

The E63 now wears the trendy sheetmetal to challenge even the sporty M6 and the Audi RS7 . Understated appeal has always been an AMG E-Class feature, but the new styling enhancements mean that the E63 is extremely serious, attention-grabbing and highly entertaining to enjoy up close.

Despite a subtle sedan shape, even blind people know that a very special car is approaching as the E63 AMG gurgles into earshot. This engine maintains much of the previous staccato machine-gun fire noise from the last cars’ naturally-aspirated engines.

In 2014, the E63 — for the first time — gains 4Matic all-wheel-drive as standard in the U.S. to go along with this beastly twin-boosted V-8, and a cabin whose luxury and comfort are contenders for world’s best.

The BMW X6 is no doubt one of the most successful models BMW has recently launched on the market. So, it should not surprise you the fact that more and more makers announced plans to develop their own version of the X6. After Audi has announced the Q6 , Mercedes has also revealed plans for a MLC Coupe-Crossover. Of course everyone saw that coming as there has always been a war between the three companies.

The future MLC will be built on the same platform as the M-Class, but it will be completely different. The exterior design will feature grille, headlights and tail lamps from the CLS limousine, while the general look will be a something similar to the X6. The model will feature the M-Class all-wheel-drive, but without the special off-road capabilities. Engine line-up will start from a standard 265 horsepower diesel version and will go up to a 544 horsepower one for the AMG model.

Updated 10/21/2011: During a recent interview with Automotive News, Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche has confirmed that Daimler AG will invest $350 million to produce a fifth Mercedes Mercedes -Benz model at its factory in Vance, Ala., starting in 2015. This fifth model will be a coupe-like version of the M-class SUV that will most likely be called the MLC.

Updated 10/7/2013: In an interview with Car and Driver, a Mercedes executive reconfirmed that the German luxury car builder is still working on a competitor to the poor-selling BMW X6, but the MLC name remains unconfirmed. Mercedes is shooting for a 2014 delivery — possibly making it a 2015 model year in the U.S. — and is targeting the $60,000 price range. So far, all of the rumors are pointing toward this upcoming coupe crossover looking like an M-Class with a liftback-style hatch. We’re hard at work on a rendering, and we’ll bring it to you ASAP.

Mercedes-Benz models are not necessarily our favorite luxury vehicles, though we do have a special place in our hearts for the 2014 CLA-Class . However, this SL GTR Concept car designed by Mark Hostler is a Mercedes is definitely up there on our all-time favorite Mercedes concepts list, though it is simply a design study.

Designed as a supercar inspired by Le Mans racers, this SL GTR supercar concept features a specially designed grille, a large rear spoiler that improves downforce at high speeds and a classic teardrop shape racecar canopy. The concept sits on five-spoke, magnesium wheels wrapped in racing tires to go along with a race suspension and carbon-ceramic brakes.

As this was a concept car inspired by Le Mans prototype, it offers racecar-inspired chassis technology. Under the hood, you can find a Nismo-designed, 5.5-liter, V-8 engine used that is best known for its use in the Nissan GT-R GT1 racer.

Of course, this is simply a design study that doesn’t actually exist in real life, so there are no performance numbers to rattle off. Regardless of it being real only in the digital sense, this is still a very impressive concept.
