Mercedes C63 AMG Black Series Coupe

The collaboration between Daimler and Aston Martin hasn’t come to fruition yet, at least as far as tangible products are concerned. All that is still a couple of years from now, which is a pretty long time from now.

What we do know for the time being is that the two brands are teaming up to build, among other things, a new wave of V-8 engines that will combine the two most important things for vehicles these days: performance and fuel efficiency. Aston wants a piece of that AMG magic and why wouldn’t it, right?

But as far as showing the world that Aston Martin will be "AMG-fied," Daimler boss Dieter Zetsche is putting the kaboosh on rumors that future Aston Martin models will be carrying the AMG badge. Apparently, at least according to Zetsche, it won’t.

The Daimler boss man wants to keep the partnership as subtle as possibly, and any trace of visible AMG participation on those future Aston bad-boys isn’t in line with all that subtle thinking. He believes that customers will ultimately link the two and won’t need to be reminded that those V-8s under future Astons were co-developed by AMG. The connection will be organically figured out.

That’s all well and good, but here’s something we don’t understand, though. Why not do it anyway, Mr. Zetsche? It’s not like Mercedes and Aston are trying to keep the collaboration a secret. Wouldn’t it also be beneficial from a novelty stand point — even if it’s just in the beginning — to see all those Aston Martins with AMG logos on them?

One possible reason the two brands are trying to keep the partnership on the down-low is because they’re still competitors in some key luxury markets. That may be true, but that hasn’t stopped sister companies like Audi and Porsche from being competitors too, even if both brands fall under the same Volkswagen umbrella.

Ultimately, it’s not our decision, and Zetsche has every right to decide on these things for his company. But it still would’ve been cool to see an AMG-badged Aston Martin.

Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class

Given the expansion of models Mercedes-Benz is going through these days, the company just might run out of letters to name its models.

According to Auto Express, the German automaker is reportedly working on a baby crossover , which it will slot just below the recently-revealed GLA-Class . The name of the model is the X-Class, and judging by its nomenclature, we won’t be surprised if Mercedes targets the young market for this baby crossover.

Besides, the CLA-Class needs a running mate, right? And what better model to do that than this reported X-Class.

On a more serious note, we don’t mind having a new Merc to choose from. Not that we can afford each and every one of ’em, but in a market where its competitors are doing their own expansions, Mercedes would be a fool to think that it can sit on its laurels and let its existing line do the fighting for them.

If the BMWs and Audis of the world are busy lining up new models for its customers, there’s no reason why Mercedes should’t do the same. There’s also some whispers that the X-Class isn’t going to be just one model, but an entire range of entry-level models that will give birth to other variants in the future. Maybe an XLA, or an X AMG?

It’s too early to say at this point, but if its the route Mercedes is choosing, we’re not going to stand up against it.

The new Mercedes CLA is having unimaginable success, and the company was forced to double production to meet the demand around the globe. We are talking about the standard version here, of course, but we’re pretty sure that the AMG version will enjoy the same success.

With a price of under $50k, the new CLA 45 AMG will be pretty much the only Mercedes that will allow the "average" customer to enter the world of high-performance sedans.

In the latest review made by Drive’s Mike Musto, he wants to see if the CLA 45 AMG is indeed the sports sedan Mercedes brags about. The test was performed at the Chuckwalla Valley Raceway in California.

As a reminder, the CLA 45 AMG is powered by an AMG-built, 2.0-liter, turbo engine that delivers a total of 360 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque. It goes from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds and up to a top speed of 155 mph.

There will probably come a time when Mercedes vehicles will look like this. That time hasn’t come yet, and we’re not really sweating t too much, especially when there are things like Gran Turismo that can give us glimpses of what the future could look like.

To this point, BMW and Mercedes have unveiled their Vision Gran Turismo Concepts . But Mercedes isn’t content with just one iteration of its concept; nope, it actually has two of these concepts and the latest is the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Racing Series.

According to Mercedes, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Racing Series was designed to compete in Gran Turismo 6’s "competitive racing scene." That’s all well and good and the concept looks really incredible. It’s also slightly modified from the "standard" Mercedes Vision Gran Turismo Concept to fit its racing credentials, including the addition of a a fixed rear wing that improves downforce on high-speed circuits and conventional mirrors in place of the CCS cameras the original concept had.

As far as performance goes, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Racing Series is powered by a 5.5-liter, twin-turbo, V-8 engine that produces an impressive 591 horsepower and connected to a seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission. No performance numbers were given, but seeing as the car only weighs 2,866 pounds, it should be good for at least 200 mph.

The Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo Racing Series is now available on Gran Turismo 6, and you can acquire it by participating in a new seasonal event that’s available in the game.

Mercedes launched a special edition A45 AMG at the 2014 2014 Tokyo Auto Salon. Called Petronas Green Edition. This model is based on the A45 AMG Edition 1 and was built as a tribute to the Petronas oil company, Mercedes-Benz’s major sponsor in F1 .

The model was specially designed by AMG Performance Studio and, as its name suggests, is all about the green elements added to the car — a hat tip to Petronas. The model features green graphics on the front bumper and sides to spice things up a bit. On the inside, there are green highlights on the moldings, decors and stitching with special AMG logos on the headrests.

No details were revealed on the engine, so we expect this special edition to be offered with the same engine found in standard A45 AMG. This means it’ll carry a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers a total of 360 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque.

The Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG Petronas Green Edition will be limited to just 30 units and all of them will be offered exclusively for the Japanese market.

Today marks the debut of Top Gear’s 21st season and for those of you who will not have the chance to see the show, Top Gear prepared another surprise video. In this video the Top Gear folks put The Stig and a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black head to head against Google’s Street View car on the Top Gear test track.

Granted, the video is a little odd, and we’re not quite sure what they are trying to accomplish, but it is still cool to see.

As a reminder, the SLS Black Series is powered by a 6.3-liter, V-8 engine that delivers a total of 622 horsepower at 7,400 rpm and a peak torque of 468 pound-feet at 5,500 rpm. The Benz supercar goes from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and up to a top speed of 196 mph.

So, you see, with these amazing figures, it was pretty much impossible for the Google Street car to stand a chance against the mighty Mercedes. Check out the video to have a good laugh...

Snow is a problem most folks in the U.S., but it looks like in Russians have dug up a way to have a lot of fun in it. After all, it’s not like they can avoid the white stuff anyways. This guy wanted to see how good his Mercedes SLS AMG can handle the snow, so he took it out for an extreme drifting session, and as you can see, he does a pretty incredible job.

From the looks of it, this is the first version of the SLS AMG , which is powered by a 6.2-liter, naturally aspirated V-8 engine that delivers a total of 571 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. It goes from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds and up to a top speed of 197 mph.

Do not try this at home, as we’re willing to bet this guy has some incredible driving skills.
