Mercedes is rolling out an all-new nine-speed automatic transmission slotted for fitment within the brand’s sedans and wagons, starting with the E 350 BlueTEC . Mercedes says the transmission will not only help conserve fuel, but will decrease in-car NVH levels and reduce exterior noise pollution, while providing smoother shifts at faster intervals than the outgoing seven-speed 7G-TRONIC transmission it replaces.

While its just now becoming available in the E 350 BlueTEC, the 9G-TRONIC will become common across the Mercedes lineup. Expect to see the unit find a home within the S-Class next, followed by C-Class , and possibly the CLA-Class . Engineers designed the transmission to be compatible with rear- and all-wheel-drive application, and even mild and full-hybrid systems. Basically, the 9G-TRONIC will be Mercedes’ bread-n-butter ‘box.

To meet the wide range of demands, engineers built the transmission to shift quickly and smoothly without any overly-perceivable shift points in its normal mode and sharp, direct shifts when placed in manual — and even more so in S mode. The gearbox is also able to shift over multiple gears for fast acceleration and deceleration. For example, the 9G-TRONIC can shift from 9th gear to 5th gear if the driver floors the accelerator. Conversely, the transmission can seamlessly shift from 3rd gear to 9th gear after a hard acceleration run up an interstate on-ramp.

What this means for performance, both on the track and in between gas stations, is simple: more gears equals lower revs when cruising and therefore increased fuel efficiency while faster shifts mean quicker overall performance numbers.

Mercedes C63 AMG

The 2015 C63 AMG is getting closer and closer to its reveal, so as expected, it is now starting it’s starting to lose a little camo. Up front we can now make out the some of the air intakes, though the swirly camouflage is still covering up most of them Around back, however, we can see even more, as the quad tailpipes and diffuser between them are easy to see.

Other than these updates, we can also see that the C63 AMG is going to be a littler wider and lower, giving it a meaner look than last year’s model.

Oddly enough, Mercedes will drop the 6.2-liter, V-8 powerplant in favor of a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo engine, but it’ll maintain the C63 name instead of changing it to C40. The reasoning for this is because Mercedes sees the C63 name as "too valuable" to change.

That’s all fine and good with us, as is the 450 horsepower that the 4.0-liter engine — the same as we’ll see in the AMG GT/SLC — will put down in its standard guise and 500-plus horsepower with the Performance Package.

The 2015 C63 AMG should bow in at the 2014 Paris Auto Show in October, so stay tuned for more updates.

It’s not the most bombastic special-edition vehicle Mercedes has released, but there’s something to be said for the SL 2LOOK Edition. If class can be found in the simplest of canvases, the SL 2LOOK Edition is manifestation of that.

The car was introduced at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show together with the SLK CarbonLOOK and while its partner-in-crime shows what Mercedes’ dark side could look like, the SL 2LOOK Edition is presented in a little more classy look, complete with various contrast finishes and some sprinkles of AMG involvement.

Both cars are scheduled to be available to the public soon, but for now, enjoy them as they continue to make an impression at the Geneva Motor Show. Sooner or later, a lot of you might have to pull out your pockets to get them as options for your respective Mercedes’.

Mercedes-Benz may be killing the SLS supercar , but it isn’t killing the SLS style. As you may be aware by our previous coverage, Mercedes and AMG are working on a smaller sports car to take on the Porsche 911 , and it will be styled in a similar vein to the SLS.

The car is internally known as the C190, but the production model will likely wear the SLC badge or potentially GT AMG. Whatever they plan on calling it, you can get and early look at it with these new spy shots.

Like most of the shots around this time of year, the coupe is undergoing rigorous cold-weather testing.

When the new car debuts later this year we expect it to be powered by a 400-horsepower engine, possibly the 4.6-liter V8 found in the E550 . Later down the line, a faster, more powerful version will be released and eventually a hard-core Black Series car will likely be produced.

Currently, the only official plan from Mercedes is to build a coupe version, but after the success of the SLS Roadster, expect the team at Benz to drop the top of this new model as well.

If you have just found yourself looking for information on special edition hatchbacks that won’t be sold in the United States, we have some great news for you. This is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz A 250 Edition Night.

This Japan -only special edition is consists of a collection of visual enhancements that are slapped to a standard A-Class , specifically the A 250 Sport or A 250 AMG Sport. The entire package is based around adding black exterior features, making the whole car darker, like the night.

So it’s basically a German JDM hatchback with lots of blacked out extras. If I was a forum lurker looking for the “best car evah” my head would have just exploded.

While the Edition Night model is technically only a Japanese market affair, many of the parts do mimic a special edition car available in the United Kingdom called the Night Package, making it slightly less special.

Mercedes C63 AMG

In today’s news we have a report that says one of our favorite fire-breathing sports cars is getting a convertible version. We are talking about the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG. In the past, the AMG-tuned C-Class models have been offered in basic coupe , wagon and sedan models, but Autocar claims that a convertible version is in the works as well.

Power will be provided by a new 4.0-liter V8, strapped with a pair of turbocharges to boost output to about 500 horsepower. Expect the torque rating to be similarly lofty.

As for the rest of the drivetrain, the AMG team at Mercedes has been making a habit of sticking an AWD system in its cars lately, but Autocar says that won’t be the case with the C63. They even got a quote from AMG boss Tobias Moers at the Detroit Auto Show , “There will be no four-wheel drive on the C63.”

Can you imagine how much you could have in a tire-destroying, 500 horsepower four-seat convertible? I can already smell the rubber and hear the passengers screaming.

No official word on when the new convertible will be coming, but since the standard sedan isn’t expected until early next year, summer 2015 would make for a safe guess.

After a series of leaked images published online, Mercedes has decided to finally take the wrap off their new flagship luxury coupe. While the official launch is still almost a month away at the Geneva Motor Show we sure aren’t complaining the early showcase.

The new model which will replace the CL at the top shelf of the German automaker’s shelf to streamline the manufacturer’s product range will be the first S-Class Coupé in almost 15 years with the last one belonging to the W140 series produced back in the 90s.

Based on the S-Class Coupé Concept which was showcased last year in IAA, Frankfurt, the production version retains the sensual design of the concept. Expected to reach dealerships in the second half of this year, the new car will showcase the best design, technology and luxury features the German marquee has to offer.

But will that be enough to fend off the competition? Read our full analysis to find out.

Updated 2/11/2014: Mercedes has revealed images and information on the S-Class.

The C63 AMG is up for elimination after this year, as we already know. So, what better way to say farewell to the old girl than with a proper sendoff by Chris Harris. Harris spent a little more time with the C63 AMG , after giving it a thorough thrashing earlier. This time, however, he spent most of his time simply talking about what a great car it was., and I couldn’t agree more...

With 507 horsepower pumping out from its 6.2-liter, V-8 engine, the C63 AMG Edition 507 was the ultimate sedan and wagon. Unless you knew what you were looking at, the C63 AMG looked like any other old Mercedes car, but with a sprint time of 4.3 seconds to 62 mph, there were few muscle cars that could hang with it.

Have a look at the video and give the C63 AMG the attention it deserves before Mercedes puts it to rest.

Here in the U.S., we are limited to the E350 and E550 in terms of E-Class Coupes from Benz, but Japan has one extra model that we do not get here in the states, the E250 Coupe. This entry-level E-Class Coupe features a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-spot that cranks out 208 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.

For Japanese customers that want a little extra something from their base E250, you can now opt for a Special Edition model that will be limited to just 100 units. On the outside, there are two color options, as 80 of said models are painted Polar White and the remaining 20 units are coated in Fire Opal. On top of the special paint, this E250 Special Edition also gets 18-inch, twin-spoke AMG wheels and the AMG Sport Package. For an extra ¥200,000 — about $2,000 at the current exchange rates — buyers can also add in a body kit that includes skirts all the way around, and front and rear spoilers.

Inside the E250 Special Edition it features a Nappa leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a Bengal Red interior on the Polar White model and Natural Beige on the Fire Opal model.

This package checks in at ¥7.12 million — roughly $71,000 — which is a ¥430,000 ($4,200) increase over the base E250. Not too bad.

Mercedes brought out the C-Class in 1993 as a replacement for the 190E, and since then, it has sprouted three generations and has become the most important model in the company’s lineup. To keep the momentum going, Mercedes is working on the fourth-generation C-Class (internally called the BR205), and, after testing it for months, the company released today the first official details on the new model.

The car’s design lines are inspired by the F800 Concept Car displayed in Geneva two years ago, with a more marked front grille. This will obviously change the look of the C-Class, but won’t change it so severely as to present a completely new design.

Mercedes is set on keeping the essence of the model, but it added a certain degree of sportiness and dynamic so that it can compete with the Audi A4 and the BMW 3-Series .

The Mercedes C-Class Sedan will arrive in 2014 and six months later, it will be followed by a station wagon version. Approximately one year after that, the company will unveil the coupe and convertible versions as well.

For the U.S. market, the C-Class will be built in the Alabama plant alongside the GL-Class and ML-Class .
