The new Mercedes A-Class is a pretty cool car, but there’s a pretty huge gap between the standard version and the A45 AMG , especially when it comes to its outward appearance. In order to improve the car’s look, two German tuners — Inden Design and Binz — joined forces and created a very cool A-Class. In fact, the tuners churned out two A-Class models: one painted gray and one red.

The first model comes painted in a dark grey and features a factory-made AMG-optical-package. This package adds a new front and rear bumper, plus new side skirts. There is also a flap made from carbon fiber that runs the entire width of the vehicle, plus a new rear diffuser also made in carbon fiber. The two tuners also modified the exhaust system and capped off the exhaust with new pipes from the C63 AMG Black Series .

We don’t know if it was coincidence between BMW and Mercedes , but clearly there has to be some kind of snickering going between the two camps.

On the same day BMW introduced the special edition M5 Nighthawk Edition in Japan, Mercedes did the same, albeit with the less powerful B-Class . Specifically, the car is called the B180 Northern Lights Black Edition and it’s the latest in a string of special edition Mercedes models to exclusively hit Japan.

Surely, you can remember the G550 Night Edition and the C63 AMG Performance Studio Edition from a few months back, right?

As if those two models weren’t enough, Mercedes’ spoiling of its Japanese customers continues with this B180, which comes with a pretty mesmerizing dark purple exterior paint to go with bi-xenon headlights, folding mirrors and LED daytime running lights.

Moving inside, the cabin features heated seats with their own memory function, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and Easy-Vario-Plus capabilities, allowing for the front passenger seat and both rear seats to be folded, increasing the interior’s load capacity to 1,995 liters (70.45 cubic-feet).

Under the hood, this special edition carries the same 1,595 cc turbocharged four-cylinder engine as the base B180. This gives it 90 kW (120 horsepower) at 5,000 rpm and 200 Nm (148 pound-feet) of torque from 1,250 to 4,000 rpm.

Humble as the B-Class appears to be relative to the M5, the Northern Lights Black Edition is as attractive as they come and can be yours, assuming you live in Japan, for just ¥3.36 million, which is about $33,900 at the current exchange rates.

Mercedes has just announced the addition of an even more powerful version to its C-Class lineup. Called C63 AMG "Edition 507" – the “507” is a clear indication of the engine’s output - the new model will use much of the same technology as the SLS AMG supercar. The new elements - including forged pistons, connecting rods and a lightweight crankshaft - will transform the new "Edition 507" into a more powerful, yet lighter sports model.

The new C63 AMG "Edition 507" will also be distinguished by design elements seen on models like the C63 AMG Coupe Black Series . These extra styling elements combined with the anticipated power hike definitely get our attention.

So, if you happen to be one of those crazy people that think the 451-horsepower C63 AMG is just a little too timid for you, the "Edition 507" just might be the car for you. Or maybe you would prefer a fighter jet; better yet, a rocket ship… Yeah, that may satisfy your itch for speed!

UPDATE 07/04/2013: Mercedes has released pricing details for the new C63 AMG "507 Edition" for the U.S. and German markets. More details after the jump.

Alpha Performance is mostly known for building some pretty sick programs for the Nissan GT-R . We’ve certainly seen a fair share of them in the past, but now it looks like the noted Godzilla tuner has turned its attention towards Mercedes vehicles.

The project involves some sizable work done by Alpha Performance on Mercedes’ noted 5.5-liter BiTurbo (M157) engine. Incidentally, one such model carrying this powertrain is the Mercedes E63 AMG , a car that packs serious power in its own right.

But apparently, that wasn’t enough for Alpha Performance, who then decided to give the E63 AMG the kind of power upgrade normally reserved for the fastest and most powerful supercars in the world.

To accomplish this, Alpha Performance went by the business of giving the car’s engine a complete overhaul, beginning with the replacement of the Garrett ball bearing center cartridge. From there, the tuner also tweaked with the set up of the Alpha-spec billet compressor wheel, thanks to the addition of latest design software and machining processes, ensuring that output is improved while keeping the overall efficiency of the car.

With these upgrades in tow, the E63 AMG can produce a staggering 850 horsepower and 900-plus pound-feet of torque, almost twice as much as what the standard engine is capable of and good enough to allow it to 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds and 60-130 mph in just 6.58 seconds. By comparison, the mighty Ferrari Enzo’s 60-130-time is at seven seconds flat.

But the best part about the Alpha 9 BiTurbo program is that it’s not limited to just E63 AMG. According Alpha Performance, you can avail of the same tuning kit for any 2012 and onwards Mercedes AMG model.

The current Mercedes SLS lineup is quickly filling up with a Coupe , a Roadster , a GT3 version , and, sometime in the near future, an E-Cell version. However, Mercedes isn’t done yet. As promised yesterday the fifth model in the line-up has been officially announced today: the SLS AMG Black Series.

The new SLS Black Series has borrowed some of the styling cues seen first on the GT3 version and of course combines them with some of the usual Black Series design elements. But first Mercedes worked on reducing the car’s total weight: they added lots of carbon fiber elements, a new titanium-made exhaust system, new wheels and some lightweight sports seats. As a result the new Black Series is about 154 pounds lighter than the current model.

When you add an improved engine under the hood: a 622-horsepowerV-8 engine, you will easily notice that the car’s performance numbers have also improved: the 0-to-60 mph sprint time drops 0.2 seconds and top speed is now 195 mph.

German tuner Brabus is taking a different approach with its latest special-edition program for Mercedes : it’s taking it to the east, specifically in China.

Meet the Brabus 60 S Dragon Edition, which is a super-modified Mercedes S 600 that pays homage to the largest auto market in the world. Not all that surprising to see Brabus take this step, considering that a lot of aftermarket companies are taking their talents and high-priced upgrades to China .

So now it’s Brabus’ turn to hit China and to its credit, it served up quite a treat for its customers in the east, decking Mercedes’ flagship luxury sedan with a host of unique upgrades, including a massive engine boost and plenty of golden dragon emblems.

Nothing validates a car being called Dragon Edition more than having a huge emblem of the mythical creature prominently displayed in the front grille of the car.

Seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher got behind the wheel of a SLS AMG GT3 and test it on the race track in Hockenheim. The GT3 is based on the road-going SLS AMG , but it adds an aerodynamic package specially prepared for the race track, plus an interior also adapted for the races.

Under its hood, the GT3 version keeps the usual 6.2-liter V-8 engine, but the output has been increased to more than 600 horsepower. Exterior updates include a new front apron with a splitter; a bonnet with central cooling air vent; wider front and rear wings; side skirts with cooling ducts for the rear brakes; a rear diffuser; and an adjustable rear spoiler.

Check out the video (above) to see what a Formula 1 champion has to say about the SLS GT3. It looks like Michael is having no problems finding ways to stay busy in retirement.

People have been talking about a baby CLS for quite some time now and after being caught testing in many times, the production version CLA-Class made its world debut at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.

Previewed by the Concept Style Coupe , the new CLA looks almost identical to the concept, but at the same time offers design elements that transform it into a "modern interpretation" of the CLS.

The best feature of the new model is its aerodynamic-drag figure of just 0.23, that sets a new benchmark among not only Mercedes models, but also all series-production vehicles. The model is also equipped with tons of technology that will transform each ride into a secure journey.

In the U.S. market Mercedes will only bring one version — the CLA250 — and sales will begin in the fall of 2013.

You should know by now that Mercedes has recently started celebrating the launch of a new model on the market with the unveiling of a special "Edition 1" version of it. Next in line for this treatment is the new CLA 45 AMG , as Mercedes has just announced the CLA 45 AMG Edition 1 series that will be put on sale in September when the standard CLA 45 AMG arrives.

Just like with the A45 AMG Edition 1 , the only updates to the CLA 45 AMG Edition 1 are on the exterior and the interior, but they are just enough to transform the look of the car.

The new CLA 45 AMG Edition 1 receives a very cool coloring package, with a standard black or white paint combined with red accents, AMG stripes and, of course, a new set of special wheels. The interior offers the same black and red theme and numerous "Edition 1" badges.
