The design of the 2009 R-Class will be inspired by the newly launched B-Class featuring tweaked new bumpers, additional chrome detailing, new alloys and LED lights.

Mercedes announced that by 2010 all the models will be powered by turbocharged engines: "All our vehicles will have turbocharged engines in series production by the end of 2010 at the latest," Thomas Weber, Daimler board member responsible for research and development, told Automotive News Europe at a press event.
The decision was made in order to reduce emissions and reduce fuel consumption, and turbocharged is the cheapest way to achieve them. With the addition of a turbocharger, Daimler will be able to install smaller, lighter and more fuel-efficient engines without sacrificing performance.
Under current proposals, the European Commission will ask the German automaker to cut its average fleet emissions from 178 grams per kilometer to 138 g/km by 2012. The Commission will fine automakers that fail to meet the targets.
Improving the efficiency of its existing engines is the first part of Daimler’s strategy to reduce CO2 emission levels across its fleet. Weber said the medium-term step would be to introduce more hybrid technology. The S class — Mercedes’ flagship sedan — will be offered as a full hybrid vehicle starting in 2009.
Mercedes and McLaren will bring their final cooperation at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. The SLR Speedster has been caught testing at the Nurburgring in Germany. It will be limited to only 75 units, and the price is rumored to be somewhere in the 750.000 euro area.
The production car will come without air conditioning and with ceramic brakes and a track-derived exhaust system. It will be 200kg lighter than the SLR coupe and capable of accelerating from 0 to 186mph (300km/h) in just 26 seconds, while top speed will be of 218mph.

To celebrate the launch of the model, Mercedes is offerig the special edition: "Edition 1". This particular variant, sure to be the subject of great demand, is based on the exterior design of the models with exterior sports package but also features 20-inch wheels, the electrically operated EASY-PACK tailgate and specially tinted privacy glass in the rear compartment.
The interior is based on the interior sports package and has been upgraded to include further quality details, such as black/white nappa leather seats from the designo range, an AMG multifunction leather steering wheel, a black roof lining, aluminium trim elements and the COMAND APS system. The exclusive GLK models are available in calcite white in the basic version, although customers may specify any other paint finish. Engine-wise, the GLK Edition 1 can be combined with any of the V6 units.

After finally unveiling the SL65 AMG Black Series this morning, Mercedes revealed an official video of the supercar.
The already formidable 6.0-liter AMG V12 engine has been modified to produce more than 650 horsepower and a staggering 738 pound-feet of torque. Its twin turbochargers are 12 percent larger, passages for intake air and the turbo wastegates have been modified, and the intake air intercooler is 30 percent more efficient. The result is zero-to-60 mph acceleration of only 3.8 seconds, and an electronically limited top speed of 198 mph.
