Year after year, the Mercury Grand Marquis is a sales leader among full-size sedans, and it's easy to see why. It has the most horsepower and torque, the roomiest interior and the biggest trunk of any vehicle in its class. In addition, Grand Marquis is the best-selling Mercury ever, with nearly 3 million units sold since 1975.

Improvements for 2007 include a simplified lineup of two trim levels — GS and LS — that are comprehensively equipped; a sophisticated Palm Beach Edition package, which includes side-impact air bags as well as luxury upgrades; and new exterior color treatments, including three two-tone offerings.

Grand Marquis continues to offer a superior ride, outstanding value and luxurious interior appointments. The car’s body-on-frame construction provides a level of comfort and isolation usually reserved for the upper echelon of sedans.

Grand Marquis is also renowned for its safety, and is the only vehicle in its class to receive the federal government’s five-star rating for driver and passenger front-crash tests 11 years in a row (1996 through 2006).

Grand Marquis is built in St. Thomas, Ontario.

Design and Equipment

For 2007, the classic Grand Marquis design is enhanced with new exterior color choices. Two new paint colors are available, Norsea Blue Clearcoat Metallic and Driftwood Grey Clearcoat Metallic. Three new two-tone exterior combinations are also available: Vibrant White Clearcoat with Silver Birch Clearcoat Metallic, Black Clearcoat with Driftwood Grey Clearcoat Metallic, and Silver Birch Clearcoat Metallic with Driftwood Grey Clearcoat Metallic.

On Grand Marquis GS models, bodyside paint stripes and a keyless entry pad are added to the list of standard equipment.

Grand Marquis LS models can be had in the new Palm Beach Edition. This package includes power, heated exterior mirrors with a chrome finish; 16-inch, nine-spoke chrome-aluminum wheels; and unique badging. Inside, a unique “Palm Beach” logo adorns the instrument panel and is embroidered in the backs of front seats, which are fitted with cashmere colored leather surfaces. A leather-wrapped steering wheel and a unique satin appliqué on the instrument panel and door trim panels complete the design touches, while side-impact air bags complete the package.

The Handling Package continues to be available on LS models. It includes 16-inch, styled aluminum wheels and all-season black sidewall tires, along with a 3.27:1 axle ratio, rear stabilizer bar and rear air suspension with unique springs. Dual exhausts boost engine output to 239 horsepower (from the standard 224 hp) and 287 pound-feet of torque (from 275 lb.-ft.). The Handling Package is not available on the Palm Beach Edition LS.

The six-passenger Grand Marquis offers 107.4 cubic feet of passenger volume. The spacious trunk holds 20.6 cubic feet of luggage, while its low liftover height of 26.8 inches makes loading and unloading easy. A trunk organizer is available.

Powertrain and Chassis

The Mercury Grand Marquis is the only vehicle in its class with a standard V-8 engine — the 4.6-liter, single-overhead-cam V-8, which produces 224 horsepower at 4,800 rpm and 275 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm. All Grand Marquis models use a four-speed automatic transmission with electronic automatic overdrive. A 2.73:1 axle ratio for good fuel economy is standard. The handling package includes a 3.27:1 axle ratio for better acceleration. All-speed traction control, which uses an antilock braking system (ABS) and throttle intervention to manage wheelspin, is available on all models.

Safety and Security

Major safety features include the robust frame, further strengthened with the addition of hydroformed front rails and redesigned crossmembers. In side tests, the Grand Marquis received five stars for rear-seat passengers and four stars for front-seat occupants from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in models tested without the optional side air bags.

Four-wheel disc ABS is standard, as is Ford’s Personal Safety System®. Other safety and security features include a valet key, remote keyless entry, an illuminated entry system, child safety locks for the rear doors, and the SecuriLock™ anti-theft system.
