Mini Roadster

  The Mini Roadster is the convertible version of the recently debuted Mini Coupe and will share its design, technology, and engine line-up. Buyers will get to choose between the base Roadster with 121 HP, an S version with 181 HP, an SD version with a 141 HP (Europe only), and the top-of-the-line John Cooper Works version delivering 208 HP.

Mini owners, pack your bags, get your car serviced and then get your butt to San Francisco; the Mini Takes the States road rally is back! This biennial event is the largest official Mini road rally covering 18 states, 15 cities and more than 5,000 miles. The trip will begin on Saturday July 26 in San Francisco California and will end two full weeks later on Sunday August 10 in Boston.

Along the way, you will get the chance to see much of our great country as the journey winds West into Colorado, then cuts south into Texas. From there you head towards Memphis, Tennessee and up to Chicago finishing with a northern detour to Buffalo, NY and finally arriving Boston. There are several more stops scattered through the middle as well.

While the cost for the trip will be what you make of it, Mini has thankfully made the entry and registration fees decidedly affordable at $45 per person with kids under 12 and all pets being freebies. If you decide that a 14-day cross-country vacation is not quite your cup of tea, Mini happily invites you to join for any portion of the festivities you prefer.

The Mini Cooper Roadster is one of the oddballs in the Mini family. It takes the exact same platform as the base Cooper and Cooper Convertible but it tosses two seats in favor of a more traditional trunk to create a two-seat open-top joyriders toy.

Thanks to the loss of seats, the Roadster is lighter than its Convertible platform mate and therefore more entertaining to drive.

When it lost the seats and that square profile, it didn’t lose its Mini heritage. The classic Mini proportions and design cues are all present, and to our eyes the Roadster looks even better than the Coupe and Convertible cars.

Just like almost every other Mini in the lineup, the new Roadster is offered in standard, S and John Cooper Works trim levels with varying levels of performance and equipment.

Mini Cooper

We’ve seen plenty of spy shots of the 2014 Mini Cooper , and we’ve even seen leaked imaged. Heck, we even had Mini officials complaining that leaked images didn’t represent the newly redesigned models properly. Well, Mini is now starting the flow of next-gen information by releasing a very in-depth presser that outlines the chassis, engine and safety updates to the soon-to-be-revealed models.

This press release, which dropped late last night, confirms that the new Mini models will feature three- and four-cylinder powerplants, ranging from a petite 1.5-liter, three-banger up to a 2.0-liter, four-pot that nearly reaches the 200-horsepower mark. Along with these new engines will comes an all-new driveline that will help deliver increase fuel economy across the range.

The chassis will also get some nice refinements that will offer up precision handling and a comfortable ride all at the same time.

Mini Coupe

Mini previewed the Coupe and Roadster models in 2009 when the concept versions were unveiled and launched the production version in 2011 and 2012, respectively. Despite Mini’s huge expectations, the two models turned out to be simple failures and reports now point toward the company planning to replace them.

According to Mini sources, via Motoring, Mini will replace the two models with a new sports car built on Mini’s new front-drive architecture. According to the report, the new sports car won’t share any body panels with the rest of the Mini lineup, with the only remaining Mini design elements being the round headlights.

Mini will offer the new sports car in both coupe and convertible variants with coming in three trim levels: base, S and JCW. Under the hood, we will see a 1.5-liter turbocharged, three-cylinder engine for the base model and a turbo-charged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine for the S and JCW versions.

Expect the new Mini sports car to arrive in late 2015 or early in 2016.

When you start thinking about MINI , there’s growing sentiment that the German automaker has become increasingly adept at building some pretty aggressive machines.

Some aftermarket companies has taken notice too, and one of them, RevoZport, has announced their new program for both the MINI Coupe and Roadster , christening it the "Targa Raze."

Built in-house to be the kind of MINI program we just fall head over hells for, the Targa Raze is beyond sick, with a bodykit that includes new bumpers, revised side skirts, and a ventilated hood, all of which are made from carbon and Kevlar. Likewise, a carbon fiber roof and a prominent rear spoiler are part of the program, reducing the car’s weight by 40kg/88 lbs while also widening its profile by 15mm.

Under the hood, RevoZport opted for a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine that now comes with new, larger intercooler, new camshafts, a remapped ECU unit, and a new titanium exhaust system. With all these modifications in tow, the Targa Raze now has an impressive output of 250 horsepower, an increase of 69 ponies from the standard model’s 181-horsepower output.

Every year, you can always count on MINI to be a presence at the Life Ball charity gala. As a matter of fact, the German automaker is more than just a presence there; they bring with them a specially designed MINI vehicle that will be auctioned off at the event with the proceeds going to projects that battle HIV and AIDS.

2012 is the 12th straight year MINI will be part of the occasion. Each year, the German automaker brings a specially designed MINI vehicle that has been designed by a plethora of the fashion world’s pre-eminent designers, including D’Squared ,Diane von Furstenberg, Kenneth Cole, Francisco Costa of the Calvin Klein collection , and the Blondes .

This year, the mantle has been passed to Franca Sozzani, the chief editor of Italian Vogue and UN Goodwill Ambassador for Fashion 4 Development. Sozzani was tasked to design a MINI Roadster and she went about with the design and development of the one-off Roadster, saying that the inspiration comes from a "beautiful woman who put a scarf on her head when she drives a Roadster."

UPDATE 05/21/2012: Franca Sozzani has unveiled its specially designed Mini Roadster at the 20th Life Ball in Vienna. The car comes painted in Deepest Purple matte paintwork combined with a gold hallmark MINI rally stripes, gold wheels and wing mirrors, and a stylishly intricate floral design on the car’s roof. The car was sold for an impressive 54,000 euro ($68,800 at the current exchange rates). Check out the picture gallery for a pretty impressive set of images from the car’s official launch.

Months after the official unveiling of the new Mini Coupe , the company has decided it was time to "uncover" the Roadster version as well. Of course, everyone already knew what the new Roadster would look like with both the Coupe version and the Roadster Concept unveiled in 2009 making it on the scene before the Roadster.

To be honest, the Coupe and Roadster models are almost identical, except for the soft top, steeply raked windscreen, stainless steel roll bars, and the active rear spoiler that deploys at 50 mph. The new Roadster will be immediately recognized as a Mini thanks to features like the hexagonal contours of its radiator grille, the black border around the lower part of the body, chrome trim strips and surrounds, large circular headlights, vertically stacked rear lights positioned on the outer extremes of the rear end, and the eye-catching surrounds of the side indicators on the front side panels.

Like with the Coupe, the Roadster is powered by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine ranging from the base Coupe with 122 HP up to the John Cooper Works Coupe with 208 HP. The SD version gets a 141 HP turbocharged 2.0-liter diesel engine.

UPDATE 01/30/2012: Mini has announced the official prices for their new Roadster. The model will be offered in three different versions with prices starting from $24,350 for the Cooper Roadster, $27,350 for the Cooper S Roadster, and $34,500 for the JCW Roadster.
