Dare to be different. That's the attitude of the Galant. It is the car that brings your lifestyle to an affordable sedan. Under the hood, the Galant has a 2.4-liter MIVEC engine standard, while a 3.8-liter V6 is available for LS and GTS buyers who want to flex a little muscle. What's more, Galant's Sportronic® transmission with adaptive shift control (LS and GTS only) learns how you drive and adjusts accordingly; or if you prefer, use its clutchless manual shift mode and enjoy hands-on shifting. Keeping you connected to the pavement is a multilink independent rear suspension for a smooth ride and sharp handling. And the traction-control system available to LS and GTS buyers provides even more performance, monitoring the drive wheels for traction loss and instantly transferring power to the wheel with the most grip.

All of this performance is matched to a long list of available luxury features. New multi-spoke, 16-inch aluminum rims are offered on the ES and LS, while the GTS has 17-inch rims standard. But the exclusive touches go well beyond the skin. Inside, chrome and titanium-finish accents adorn the center console and door handles. Optional heated front leather seating surfaces and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with remote audio controls afford traditional sophistication, while the available 270-watt, eight-speaker stereo with MP3 playback capability is the epitome of modern technology.

Safety

What's more, the Galant boasts some of the most advanced safety equipment available at any price point. Anti-lock brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) are standard equipment on ES, LS and GTS models. Further, a tire-pressure monitor is included on vehicles equipped with the alloy wheels with TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system; this package is standard on LS and GTS models and optional equipment on the ES. Galant also offers dual front seat-mounted, side-impact air bags† and advanced dual-stage front air bags as standard features.† All this gives it a five-star rating for frontal crash safety based on tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).*

Interior

The previous Galant's center stack has been modified to hold an optional navigation system up top. The three-spoke steering wheel, simple instrument cluster and unadorned dashboard remain largely unchanged.

Power accessories, remote entry and a CD player are standard on all Galants. ES models feature metal-look trim and cruise control, while GTS trim levels get leather seats and an eight-way power driver's seat. The Ralliart has automatic climate control and a premium sound system built by Rockford Fosgate. The Galant is ultimately not a top-tier luxury contender in its segment, as many premium items — such as a power-operated passenger seat and dual-zone automatic climate control — are not offered.
