Mitsubishi ->ke58 just revealed a pair of fitness and adventure-themed concepts, based on the best-selling Outlander and Outlander Sport. The Summer Edition is a thorough personalization effort, on par with the high-dollar luxury car makeovers from Kahn Design.

The custom Outlander Sport shows off: unique burnt orange metallic paintwork and 20-inch Vossen wheels, with matching satin graphite accents all around and sticky track tires. The wheel size jumps a full 2 inches over the 18-inch rims that are otherwise standard on all the Outlander Sport trims, which start from just $19,170 in manual front-drive configuration.

This H360 Summer Edition is based on the higher-range model, with a SportTronic paddle shift automatic and Mitsubishi->ke58's AWC four-wheel-drive system. Thule roof bars and matching Trek bikes are only a preview of the inside of this fitness machine.

Created with the help of celebrity fitness coach Jay Cardiello, the Outlander Sport Summer Edition is packing some bold color accents and numerous fitness and outdoor adventure gear. Hard-wired chargers are awesome details for the built-in GoPro and iPad mini in the grey suede headlining.

Exterior

Modern and stylish, the Summer Edition really just highlights all the practical features and design that the regular Outlander Sport already offers at compact-car affordability. You cannot put a price on one-of-a-kind car personalization efforts... and the H360 Summer Edition is a concept car only.

Even so, the exterior mods are tasteful and look really expensive. It starts off with a deep paint that glows fire red in certain lights. The graphite-colored trim accents and front Evolution-style grille are standouts, because changing this simple panel's color dramatically enhances the Outlander Sport's road presence and sense of width. The middle bumper piece is usually body color, continuing the white or other color through the middle of the Evo shape.

And as with the best concept cars, this treatment can inspire buyers to personalize their cars in similar ways as displayed here. The graphite accents are probably more appealing to a broad audience than this specific shade of orange, but it is certainly unique and a very high quality execution.

Out back, the Summer Edition's graphite accents continue, painting the lower diffuser that is otherwise black. It's a classy touch that looks good with the standard model's LED taillights and planted stance.

The 20-inch wheels are amazing, and help the Outlander Sport to really look like a mini rally cross car.

Interior

The interior is quite unique, with colored accents all around in the same matching metallic as the exterior. New leathers and suede wrap the entire cockpit, seats and headliner - which always feels spectacular. Changing a headliner seems like no big deal, but it is a very involved process and not easy to do on a DIY basis.

The dark and plush roof maintains the normal Outlander Sport's panoramic glass roof, which looks good and even opens with bikes or skis on the roof rack. The interior of the moonroof is lined with LED lighting, which is a really nice touch when cruising at night. It allows you to easily see other passengers, but in a calm hue that does not disturb the driver's vision at night.

Drivetrain, Suspension and Brakes

The drivetrain stays the same for this customization, with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder linked to a paddle-shift auto and AWD. Energetic and playful already, the Summer Edition's larger wheels and tires add a dramatic amount of grip and road feel, without harming the ride quality much.

Note to DIY tuners: stock springs are generally a better match for larger wheels versus getting wheels and lower, harder springs at the same time. You may miss the once-comfy ride and ground clearance.

The wider wheels increase the heft and feedback from the steering wheel, which is now wrapped in that same silky suede. Performance is respectable for the class, and relatively entertaining in the twisties on the Nitto racing tires, which look sticky enough to melt in the California sunshine.
